Great place for lunch or dinner. Consistently good sushi and sashimi dishes. The bento boxes and hibachi are good as well.

Service was Great! Our waiter assisted me with choosing the Best Lunch Options! I enjoyed my Spicy Cajun Sushi Roll (Loved it), My friend had the Crab Salad (Loved it), I enjoyed the Clear Soup (Delicious) and we Both ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Hibachi Combo. But, our only hiccup was our Rice. But, they kindly replaced with extra veggies which were Amazing.

Had lunch here mid week. Great and friendly service. Side salad went a bit heavy on the dressing, you could easily cut it by half. It was nearly salad soup Main entree was pretty good, though it depended a little heavily on sauce that seemed to lightly drown out everything else. Really though, typical hibachi and if you are into that sort of experience there is nothing wrong with coming here.

My husband and I visited this TAKUMI (Denham Springs) restaurant on Friday, November 28, 2025, hoping for a relaxing date night and a fun dining experience. Unfortunately, our evening turned out to be extremely disappointing from start to finish.

First Impressions
The greeting at the door was subpar—there was no warmth or enthusiasm, and we felt more like an inconvenience than welcomed guests. Our waitress seemed rusty and inattentive, barely engaging with us throughout the meal. At one point, she even remarked, “Let me take these orders so we can close the grill,” despite it only being 8:30 p.m.This comment made us feel rushed and unwelcome, as if we were keeping the staff from leaving rather than being valued customers.

Dining Experience
When the hibachi chef arrived, things initially seemed to improve. He started the performance, and we were beginning to enjoy ourselves. However, the experience quickly took a turn for the worse. After serving our food, the chef began cleaning the grill and splashed water directly toward me, creating a cloud of smoke that covered both my plate and myself. To make matters worse, his vigorous scrubbing caused soapy water to mix into my rice, vegetables, and steak, completely contaminating the meal. It was shocking and unsanitary, and at that point, I couldn’t eat any of my food.

Service and Resolution
Despite the situation, the waitress returned with the full bill, showing no concern or apology for what had happened. There was no offer to replace the food, no manager intervention, and no acknowledgment of the poor service or the contamination issue.

Overall Impression
This experience was a major disappointment and completely ruined what was meant to be a much-needed date night. Between the lackluster service, unprofessional staff behavior, and unsanitary food handling, I cannot recommend this restaurant. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues, as no guest should have to experience what we did.

This is the second and likely last time I will ever eat here. Both times, the appetizers were alright but the sushi was just awful.

This time we visited around 3:00 pm on a Saturday which was meant to be a low-activity, no-wait period. We waited half an hour, presumably for the sake of a shift change. The hosting staff was dismissive and uncertain about estimated times.

Our waitress was wonderful and very pleasant, despite a lack of communication resulting in our receiving one wrong dish and then another miscommunication that resulted in an unwanted plate of our original order.

Our two appetizers (fried softshell crab and stuffed jalapenos) were good. The crab is cheaply priced and decently tasting.

Our sushi, however, was an absolute travesty. We ordered a loveboat for two and managed to eat maybe two or three pieces. It was a lovely presentation and the pickles were very good but the whitefish was partially frozen, the salmon was very fishy, the tuna tasted okay but was washed out in color and pasty in texture, the rice was cold, hard, and unseasoned, the fish was cut thin and at weird angles, and every single roll was so poorly constructed they fell apart as soon as they were picked up. It seems obvious they keep fish and refreeze it multiple times until it all gets used even past the time of flavor or texture remaining intact. And for $50.00, you don’t get a soup or salad or anything; not that I’m sure I’d trust the quality if it were offered.

I don’t even understand it. We have experience eating sushi everywhere but our standards aren’t impossibly high– you get a better deal and better quality sushi from the new Carter’s supermarket without having to wait half an hour in the middle of the day for a shift change in order to have a seat in the first place.

Also the menus are hilariously dirty and falling apart. Every page of mine was virtually crumbling away. Thank goodness for our waitress being an angel, but otherwise it’s really not worth visiting if this it what they’re serving on a weekend.

I feel very bad for the nice customers a table or two over who expressed that this was one of their first times trying Japanese cuisine and who were interested in our order. This is a really bad first experience for anyone that could put them off it indefinitely.

The first sushi image is how much we received. The second is how much we left behind. We hate wasting food but it was just too unpleasant all around.

Food is just ok, it used to be much better. The last few times we have gone here the hostess (different people) has been borderline rude, no smile, no welcome, just a deadpan look while asking, “How many?”. We arrived at 3:30pm. After waiting 10 minutes we were seated at a table even though we asked for a booth because it’s easier with the kids. All of the booths were empty. The couple that walked in 5 minutes after us was seated in a booth right after we were seated. We immediately ordered waters, 2 Spicy Kani salads, & a Fried Rice with no eggs & no vegetables for the 2 & 4 year old kids we had with us. The waiter came to the table telling us we could not have just rice. Per the kitchen, we had to either have eggs or vegetables, but couldn’t have it without at least 1 of them. The kids just pick out the eggs & veggies. There is no reason we can’t have just rice. They brought us shredded Kani with NO sauce or seasoning and a ton of very stale tempura on top. We told the waiter (who was very nice & gave great service) that it wasn’t right. He took it back & the manager came back with the same salads saying, “What’s the problem here?, then arguing that this was correct. It had zero spicy mayo on it. We have ordered this here before as well as EVERY Sushi restaurant we go & it always has spicy mayo on it. A quick Google of Spicy Kani salad shows it has spicy mayo on it. After arguing back & forth for a couple of minutes she finally offered to bring the spicy mayo on the side for us to mix in. We then ordered a Naruto & Chicken Sobi. Those items came out within 10 minutes, but still no fried rice for the kids. We were told they were fixing a lot of hibachi plates in the kitchen & must be backed up. There were literally 3 or 4 tables of guests & it had been over 20 minutes. We were done eating & the kids rice that we ordered the minute we sat down still wasn’t served. We canceled the rice & left. We won’t be back. Really not sure what these people think…..there are literally 2 other sushi restaurants in the same parking lot. We will just go to one of them.
