So first off, the atmosphere inside is actually pretty nice. It’s one of those spots that feels cozy but still has that slightly upscale vibe with the lighting and décor. I went with a friend after work, and it wasn’t super crowded, which was a plus. The menu is pretty big too—lots of sushi rolls, hibachi options, appetizers, and some combos if you’re trying to get a little bit of everything.
One thing I noticed right away is that some of the servers don’t speak a lot of English. It’s not really a bad thing, but it’s something to keep in mind. If you go, just make sure to speak slowly and clearly when you order, especially if you have special requests. They were all polite and trying their best, but there were a couple of moments where our order got a little mixed up. Nothing major, but it did slow things down a bit and made the ordering part a little awkward. Still, the staff was friendly, and they corrected everything once we pointed it out.
As for the food, I’d say it was good but not amazing. The shrimp hibachi plate with mushroom soup, I ordered was a solid good flavor, decent portion size but not really standout enough to make me crave it again anytime soon.
The part I probably liked the most was the happy hour menu. They actually have some really good deals on drinks and a few appetizers, which makes it a nice place to stop by if you don’t want to spend a ton. We ordered a couple of drinks off the happy hour specials, and those were definitely worth it.
The main reason I couldn’t rate it higher is just that overall experience felt a little uneven. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was exceptional either. Between the small communication issues and the food being kind of average for the price, it turned into more of a “just okay” visit.
I’d still go back if I was already in the area or wanted a relaxed happy hour, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there again. So, 3 stars from me.
A very disappointing experience, especially considering that it happened on March 8.
When I walked into the restaurant with my stroller, the place smelled strongly of chlorine, almost like a restroom.
The first waitress asked how many people were in my party. I said that I was alone. After that, she clearly seemed unhappy about it. She was aggressively clearing plates from the table and her attitude felt rude and dismissive from the start.
She listed the drinks and mentioned lemonade. I asked if it was house-made. She looked at me sarcastically and asked, “What is it?” I explained that I meant: do you make lemonade here in the restaurant? She said no.
I also asked if they had warm sushi. She smirked and said that sushi is always cold — which is simply not true for a Japanese restaurant.
When I asked to see the menu, she strangely asked, “Which menu?” before bringing one. Later she came back asking what I wanted to drink. I asked for water and said I needed a little more time before ordering.
Soon after, another waitress came. When I later asked her about warm sushi, she politely explained that they do have warm sushi options, and I ordered one.
The difference between the two waitresses was huge. The second one was polite and helpful, while the first one was rude and unprofessional.
Another strange thing: drinks were served in cheap plastic cups, which feels very out of place for a Japanese restaurant.
Overall, the rude service, dismissive attitude, and unpleasant atmosphere left a very negative impression.
We ordered takeout and everything was wonderful. Steak hibachi, shrimp hibachi, sushi roll, and orange chicken. All was amazing. You could tell everything was fresh. I can’t wait to go and dine in.
We don’t have a large amount of diverse options in Alvin. Burgers, sandwiches, mexican food is all we have. I was thrilled to see this restaurant open. The only other Asian restaurant in town is the sketchy one by the motel and for some reason that place has a 4.8 rating. Has no one seen or been in that place…
Everyone please stop downing this restaurant, we need options in our town. For everyone saying there is a language barrier with the staff, think about the mexican restaurants in town we all go to and have the same experience.
Overall great experience
The music had a very unique vibe and made the whole experience even better.
Our server was super funny and friendly, joking around with us and making us feel very welcome. She even gave me a free drink, which was such a nice surprise.
Definitely a place I’d love to come back to!
