Since 1927, L.A.’s oldest French restaurant continues to attract eager diners nightly. It will close it’s five banquet rooms with a 300-person capacity in late March, 2026, to reopen on a smaller scale in a multi-use building that will replace the one which has housed Taix since its opening.

We arrived there for our Christmas Eve dinner and decided to join our neighbors in the bar seating, A PARTY OF 4, 2 couples. The server/waitress bypassed us for over 30 minutes. By 6:10 everyone around us had drinks and appetizers. We had nothing. We finally got our servers attention, told her we’d been waiting, and SHE got pissed. She finally took our drink order and food order…20 minutes later the 2 red wines, a beer and cider STILL hadn’t shown up. We were able to give her our food order and asked about our drinks…not her fault of course. Almost an hour later, libations arrived FINALLY. My soup bowl came and at the same time my order of mussels showed up. She NEVER asked if we wanted a refill on the drinks, NEVER asked us about dessert either. When the bill came, she couldn’t recall what we’d ordered and claimed the problem was splitting the bill for 4 into 2 different checks.
REALLY!? The 3 servers were not warm nor were they efficient. Sad, since at least half the patrons were from their hood… Like us.

A classic place to dine if you’re in LA. Make a reservation for you’re going on the weekend to save yourself time we ordered mussels and the duck l’orange. Both were delicious and the correct flavors came through. Service can be a little slow when they’re busy but they didn’t give us any rush when we stayed a little longer to finish our wines. Very glad to have come here after passing by it for so long.

I absolutely love coming to Taix for drinks, and I hosted my birthday party this year in the Champagne room complete with a live band, costume contest, and craft table! The experience was so fun and chill- thanks to Monica their special events coordinator. I would definitely recommend having your holiday party here I found it to be affordable and accessible – and they have a parking lot which is unheard of for the area.

When I arrived to set up my everyone was so helpful and kind, and had really great energy.

The drinks are great! And so is the food!!! Thank you so much Taix for the helping me host an unforgettable event!!!

The waitress was nice although her uniform needed help but very sweet & knowable. The food was okay. But the place is closing & I think their owners have invested very little if anything in their liqueurs. The Frangelico ran out & their Chambord tasted like it was 25 year old cough syrup. It was horrible. Their chocolate mousé was sickening sweet like for a 5 year’s birthday party.
I’m so sad about my experience with one of the nicest & oldest French restaurants in LA.

Hands down the best local place to unwind. Monica’s warm welcoming makes you feel at home. It’s priceless when you don’t even have to think about what to order because they already know what you like. Highly recommend for a nice dinner or simply a drink. Taix never disappoints.

I have never had an experience like this before with a restaurant. Made reservations for a special occasion, and they told me I had the reservation but they would call me back because the computer was being slow. They never called me back. I called them every night for about 8 nights and no one would answer. When I finally got someone to answer on the 9th night, the woman could not have been more rude. The next night I got a different woman, and she told me I had no reservation and that they were now fully booked. I feel like I am in the twilight zone; I know you’re fully booked, and I’m one of the people booked!

The food was okay, not particularly amazing. The salmon was not quick cooked well enough. The Wedge salad was more garlic-y than I expected. The Creme Brule had a very heavy coat of burnt sugar on the top. Overall it wasn’t bad, but I don’t know if we’d go back.

Excellent food. The clam chowder was absolutely delicious. Our waiter actually spoke French, pretty authentic place. The crab cakes were really good as well. It’s pretty dark inside which it makes it hard to read the menu.

Classic French-inspired restaurant with a vintage atmosphere. The onion soup and roast chicken are both excellent. Service is professional and attentive. The décor feels like old-school LA. It’s a nice change of pace from trendy new spots
