The hosts and servers were very friendly. Our server, Sarah, was especially kind and helpful. She was patient, gave great recommendations, and truly made the experience even better.
Everything we ordered was amazing: the spinach salad, lobster roll, spicy albacore roll, toro sushi, crispy chicken, and a few other dishes I can’t even remember because it was all so fresh and delicious. My husband is very picky, especially with sushi, and even he was really impressed—he already promised to take me back.
The restaurant has a really nice, date-night vibe, even though we were there with a baby and family. They were very accommodating with the stroller, and we loved the atmosphere and the music—not too loud, just right.
Great food, beautiful aesthetic, excellent service, and high quality overall. They also offer convenient valet plus street parking. We’ll definitely be coming back soon. Highly recommend!
Really enjoy the atmosphere here. The room feels polished but still relaxed, and service has been consistently attentive every time I’ve come. Ventura parking is tough, so expect to valet. I think it was around $10 or $15 if remember right? Worth noting. Reservations are smart since it gets busy. Now for the food:
•Cucumber Kimchee Sunomono is a killer opener. Bright, tangy, wakes up your palate.
•Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice is a safe yes. Very crispy, easy to share.
•Spicy Kurobuta Fried Rice is the must order. Big portion, runny egg, super satisfying.
•Crispy Chicken was solid, not mandatory, but good if the table wants something crunchy.
•Sushi Roll tasted fresh and clean, good balance, not heavy.
•Butter Cake is a clean finish and worth it.
They also accept inKind right now, which helps if you want to offset the cost.
Pro tips:
• Make a reservation and expect valet parking.
• Start with the sunomono.
• Do not skip the pork, egg, and orange rice.
• Best for date nights or planned dinners
We ordered the spicy albacore roll, and the truffle salmon roll, which were both really good, we got the salmon miso sashimi as a starter, and the vegetable Gyoza, which is honestly the best I’ve ever had. You can feel it’s made fresh at the restaurant. Two Wagyu nigiri – fire!!!!! And the street corn dish was great too. We tried two types of sake and had the best time! And the dessert!!!! Yum.
Also our server, Micah, was phenomenal and really attentive.
We had such a great experience with the food, ambiance, and incredible service!
We ordered several items: truffle salmon, salmon avocado roll, California roll, shishito
Pepper and hot sake. The sushi was delicious to taste, but it was nothing I hadn’t seen before.
While everything tasted decent then, my friend and I had stomach issues afterward. My friend even reported this to the manager during our meal, who assured us the transaction would be canceled. However, I still saw the charge on my credit card days later, and it took another call to a different manager to resolve it.
While street parking is available, finding a spot on busy Friday nights is tough, so I opted for valet parking. Given the price point, the experience was disappointing, and I won’t be returning.
The menu is designed for sharing, which makes it easy (and tempting) to try a lot of dishes. That said, it was still hard to narrow things down. It’s rare to come across a menu where you’d be happy ordering almost anything, but Taisho is that kind of place.
We ordered a lot: crispy Brussels sprouts, salmon dry miso sashimi, tuna avocado sashimi, tofu toban-yaki, wagyu gyoza, robata-yaki (street corn, bacon & asparagus, seabass, shrimp & bacon), truffle avocado crispy rice, the chef’s choice sushi, lobster roll, butter cake, and mochi. I usually take photos, but the small plates were coming out so quickly I couldn’t keep up.
First and foremost, the food was excellent. Even if you’re not a Brussels sprouts person, order them—you might convert. That said, it was a lot of food. We were told it was a good amount for three people, and while that may be technically true, we all went home with enough leftovers for another full meal.
Service was mostly very good. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, though she didn’t check in very often and we found ourselves waiting at times. The food runner, however, was fantastic—fun presentations and very attentive about clearing plates, which really matters when dishes are constantly rotating.
I liked the ambiance. It wasn’t overly loud, which made conversation easy. The one drawback is how tight the seating is—tables are very close together, and it’s awkward for people to get in and out when chairs are back-to-back. The location itself is convenient, and valet on Ventura Blvd was easy.
One thing to note: it was pricier than I expected. The bill came out to around $500 for three people (we each had a cocktail), plus $14 for valet. Was it worth it? Yes—but for a special occasion. This isn’t a casual weeknight spot for me, but it’s a great choice when you want to do something a little more elevated.
We got a little bit of everything on the menu so I’ll highlight my favs. The Brussel sprouts were just as delicious as I remember. They definitely taste like chips vs something healthy. The salmon dry miso sashimi was so memorable seasoned so perfectly that just wanted more. The whole striped bass was the last course and would have skipped over this if not recommended and that would have been regretful. The presentation and even more the taste of the sauce was fresh crispy fish was truly amazing. Every dish had great flavors, the service was impeccable and the restaurant had such a great vibe. The only downside and could be considered an upside is that’s it’s really loud inside since the music is so loud so it’s difficult to have a conversation without having to yell a little. The dinner wasn’t be any means cheap so it’s definitely a place to splurge a little.
