Best bacon cheese fries I have ever had! My family and I pass through the area about once a month and decided to try it for lunch today. It will be our permanent go to lunch spot when we pass through from now on. We all got burgers which were fantastic. Service was great and fast, price is reasonable and portions out of control. There was absolutely nothing for me to critique.

Decided to have lunch here on a last minute whim. So glad we did.
The menu is very straightforward. You cannot go wrong with whatever you order. We got the fried pickles, bacon cheeseburger, fish sandwich and a small order of fries that we couldn’t finish between us. We did manage to get them home to share with our dogs who also gave 4 paws up.
The presentation on the burger was unexpected it it came out better than the professional pictures you see in ads. Seriously.

Their burger are exquisite, taste just like homemade. Their fries are good, the onion rings are way above average quality, and the fried mushrooms are absolutely delicious.
Their customer service is quite phenomenal. They made a mistake with my order (forgot my onion rings), I called, and they tried to right the wrong. Inevitably, they weren’t able to make the delivery for the onion rings. So, today, I asked for a refund of the onion rings. They not only accepted that, they went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied.
In my opinion, this is the best burger shop in town. Their care and humility in managing their mistake is what helped my irritation subside, and really made it where I will continually order there.

Warmly greeted at the door, which we later learned was the manager. Promptly waited on us and brought over a wet towel just to make sure our table was extra clean. Our party of five ordered hamburgers, french fries, onion rings, Philly cheesesteaks. Burger was fresh and hot and it tastes like it was made with fresh meat. I tried the Philly cheesesteak and was one of the best ones I’ve ever had. This is a place you got to take the time to go eat and experience this local gem.

December 17, 2024 – Our 2nd time dining at the Tailgate, it’s a local diner with Good Burgers & Shoestring fries! Locals sometimes refer to this as “Broad Street Grill” , founded in 2005 by Jeff & Pam Graves.
After Covid closed ‘em down, new owners Vonnie Smiley & Kenny Bradley re-opened Tailgate Grill! Our neighbors in Waynesboro come here often for dinner. As a matter of fact. . . My wife & I are sharing a table with our neighbors tonight for dinner.
Our server recognized our neighbors immediately, so she said, “ You having the usual”? As we looked over the menu, my wife ordered a fish sandwich, I ordered their Bacon Cheeseburger special ! They didn’t ask, “ How do you want it cooked,” it comes medium-well !
The shoestring fries come in two sizes. . . Half basket is enough to share with 2 people. The large basket is enough for the table ! Their fries are ADDICTIVE! You can’t stop ! You get a COKE with your burger & fries , and that’s the SPECIAL! ( $13.99 to $15.99 depending on burger toppings)
Menu isn’t fancy or complicated. I didn’t see any soups ? Salads limited to 3 choices . . . Tossed, Fried Chicken salad, and Chicken salad . Some appetizers choices: Fries, Cheese Fries, Mac or Chili on Fries, Fried Shrimp, wings, Fried Pickles, Cowboy bites, and Fried Mozzarella. Their reputation is built on their burgers. No pasta, no vegetarian dishes ( tossed salad), no fresh seafood, and wings are frozen.
Hey, Tailgate serves up American classics in a diner style atmosphere. Service is friendly and fast. The prices are very reasonable, and the burgers & fries are wonderful!

Nice place, open seating. The table was a bit dirty, the waitress was nice but seemed a bit overwhelmed or overworked. The food is what I would call diner style. The fried green beans were good. The small cheese fry is a big cheese fry, but flavor wise, just okay like the rest of the items we had. Although I am a fan of small business, I will probably not go back based on just the food.

Been coming to Tailgate for years. After tonight’s service I will not be returning, after waiting for over an hour; our party only received one burger and none of our other food. The burger was burnt, and not what I ordered (service was so bad it wasn’t worth sending back), we never had our drinks checked, or received any notice on where our food was.

Not the same as it was A few years ago. Ate there every week when I worked in Waynesboro. Hadn’t been in a couple of years but chose to meet some friends there from Earlysville when they ask me to suggest a good Hamburger place. Way understaffed but thank Goodness the lunch crowd is remember never showed up. Food was fair, onion rings were a big hit with my Earlysville friends. Burger was cooked with apparently no salt and the buns were burned to the point of being black on the bottom bun. There is no reason to serve Sweet Tea at 12:30 that tasted days old.

I go to place an order I’m reading the order out and the lady doesn’t even say anything and after I’m done ordering she doesn’t say anything STILL. Like girl am I talking to myself or you.? Then my boyfriend placed my food wrong. I asked them if they can add on simple lettuce and tomatoes he told me no so I called back to cancel then all of a sudden he could do it.
