Chinese baked goods, including fried pork buns, are the focus of this quaint spot with bubble tea.

It’s the taste of my childhood! I grownup in Hong Kong and they have all my favorite plus some comparably newer items. I’ve picked 10 of them since I was just visiting the area by myself for 2 days only, but I’m glad that I found this bakery!

Everything I bought today was wonderful. I had the roasted pork bun, custard bun, curry beef pastry, Portuguese egg tart and fried shrimp ball. I loved them all except for the shrimp ball. It wasn’t bad, just not my flavor preference. The curry beef and roasted pork were amazing. I wish this place were closer to where I live. Truly impressed with their quality and variety. I will definitely stop in the next time I’m in the area.

I just stopped here for the first time. I’m from Houston that has a very diverse culture and I have not had authentic food since I left. This bakery was a great find. The only problem I had was there’s so much to choose from. I ended up getting almost two of everything. My waist isn’t very happy about it that.
The shrimp bumps were especially delicious

Bakery is small inside but the aroma is enticing!
Selection of your common Cantonese buns, both plain and with fillings such as coconut, custard, bbq pork, pineapple, red bean … to other sorts of pastries, egg and Portuguese tarts, cakes, fried savory dumplings and white sugar sponge cake among a few more.
Review of few of the items purchased today, the custard and Danish bun, as labeled on the case.
The texture and taste of the bread is good and soft with a slight sweetness. However, there is little to no filling. What did I pay for? The custard bun is almost nonexistent. You can see a very light layer and almost hollow inside. The Danish bun top layer on the outside was flaky and flavorful but the custard inside of this one was not for me.
I would say that the the egg tarts are pretty good, as well as the fried savory dumpling 咸水角 like pastry.

My friend and I went in on 2/15/2026 and it was so busy this old Asian man with a bad haircut was mad that his order was taking too long and was real annoying and then the man behind was yells “will you just shut up and pay” we were cracking uppp because if he is late and needs to go to his party in Canton then why do you keep talking? And they gave him a discount for the inconvenience but our buns were sooo good and we got a good show too 10/10 but it’s Chinese new year like what did he expect it’s busy shit happens, but our buns were so good we should have gotten more

It was the best Asian bakery in metro Detroit. Not anymore. I don’t know what happen. Their bread taste like nothing. It is not sweet and has no flavor. Also the texture is tough to chew., not tough like gum but not normal for Chinese bread. Egg custard bread has no flavor. How is that even possible
Compare to more populated Asian cities or 85C bakery. This is like a 2/5. Inflation happened I guess.

One of a kind in the area. I absolutely love love love a good authentic Chinese bakery. I get a number of things when I go. I recommend the sponge cake, egg tart, sticky rice, curry bun, hot dog bun, and especially the durian crispy cake! I trust with the quality they put out and know everything is good. I’m still just getting around to trying it all.

I’m pretty sure I can say I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember, or even starting from birth. They used to be cash only, but now there is a $10 credit minimum. The lady is very kind and will answer all your questions happily. They are very hygienic and with covid-19 going on, they are taking a lot of safety precautions and completely closed off the self-service bun shelf. The bubble tea is reasonably priced for the area for sure, you won’t need to pay $6 for a drink here! The buns, cake, and egg tarts are amazing, my personal favorite is the ham and egg bun, and my sister’s favorite is the fried pork bun. As a child I loved the basic hot dog bun, I have memories of coming here with my uncle when I was probably 4 or 5 and picking out buns for our family. This place is the og. I really want to see this place get as much recognition as QQ not only because it’s been here longer, but because it’s just as good if not better. I don’t want to compare places, but I hate to see a place that deserves the business be hidden from our eyes, especially when it’s so close to Oakland Mall and so many other shopping centers. It is definitely a bit of a hidden gem. We love both bakeries a lot! But if I had to pick one over the other to go to for the rest of my life, it would be Tai Pan. 🙂
edit: added photos. couldn’t resist eating my ham and egg bun, this is the only place i know of that keeps the yolk and white separated and doesnt use a homogeneous rectangle. huge fave
update: i live in the bay area in california now and i miss this place so much

Roast pork BBQ bun = delicious!! Plenty of flavorful filling that wasn’t grissel or fat. I’ve had MANY of these in Chicago, Manhattan, and Queens. This is in my top 3 favorites. Price was $1.90 for BBQ pork bun, so very reasonable compared to other Chinese bakeries.

Really hidden gem this bakery is and the price is reasonable too. There is so much to choose from like pastries, buns, cakes. You have to try everything slowly in order to know what you like here. If your allergic to wheat, they go have rice cake. This bakery not 100% gluten free facility.
My favorite bun is the roast pork bun and egg custard tart. Will be back again soon. Too many bubble tea flavored to chose from and I love their coffee flavor a lot.
P.S cash only!!! Sometimes I do forget to bring cash on hand.
