We had lunch here ordering a chicken salad croissant with soup ($15) and a Quiche with salad ($15). Both were more than we could eat. The indoor restaurant area is tiny but in nice weather you can dine outdoor. The food was good and service was prompt and courteous.

I came prepared to love this place but could not believe the issues with the food. Unacceptable and uncalled for! I ordered a grilled cheese with no ham. My server repeated my order and put it in correctly. I was the table nearest the kitchen so I was certain. About 10 minutes later my sandwich came with ham. I alerted my server and about one minute later she brought back my sandwich with no ham. I began to eat it thinking it was the same sandwich because it had an essence of ham and came out so quickly. My server, who was lovely, checked in on me, and after a few bites I told her that I thought this was the same sandwich with the ham removed. She insisted that I get an entire new one made the way I ordered it. Big mistake! It was obvious the kitchen chose to punish me. The bread was buttered, but not grilled, the cheese was not melted, bread was soft and soggy, it was awful, while the other one was perfectly grilled, cheese warm and melty, bread crunchy. I felt so bad for the server because she was very budy, that I ate it but hated it, and could barely choke it down. With tax and tip $20 for a grilled cheese that was inedible, and not enjoyable whatsoever, felt very unfair all because I asked for no ham on my sandwich. And sadly, that sandwich, without the ham, If prepared correctly, would have been delicious. I am visiting from Atlanta and I was looking forward to a nice lunch and museum visit but it was overshadowed by overpriced inedible food and the feeling of being punished by the kitchen staff.

Table service by Noctis was very good, and fun. Our chicken salad and croissant sandwiches were beautiful and delicious. Chicken and rice soup was hot and tasty. Super soft jazz music and quiet atmosphere was what I’d like at every restaurant!! We’ll be back for art AND food. The African Sunrise green tea was incredible . Thank you Noctis.

Was rudely told by the server that we should have reservations after we asked for seats because it “gets so busy they sell out of brunch”. Restaurant was completely empty, except one table with two ladies. Absolutely no one in site except us. Why would we need to be told that we need reservations? We should have walked out. It’s really off putting, won’t be back.

This will be an unsolicited review for brunch. I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Taft. The brunch was much better than I hoped for. Let me set the correct expectations. The cafe is quite intimate. The menu is limited. That said, I only eat vegetables or fish. I could have ordered four different items. I had a brunch sandwich. In a word: lovely. We also ordered the cheese board (more loveliness). My wife and I ordered Churchill’s Taft blended tea (perfect). The chef did an exceptional job. I am not overstating the experience. We had a lovely waitress named Porsche who couldn’t be more hospitable.
If I could make two changes/additions, I would suggest cut fruit as a side item and I would encourage an upgrade on the quality of the coffee. The blend offered is a bit … lacking. I would suggest a special robust “Taft blend” from a custom roaster; someone like 7 Hills or Mount Lookout Joes. This would necessitate a price adjust up a dollar or so a cup but well worth it.
IF you are going to the Taft, make a reservation and eat here. You won’t be sorry, and like me, I suspect you will be pleasantly surprised by the experience. Well done guys; well done!
