Social Profile:

Tacubaya is a taqueria in the 4th Street shopping district of Berkeley. It is named after the neighborhood in Mexico City where famed architect Luis Barragan lived. Much like Barragan’s modern architecture, which in its purity and simplicity was respectful of tradition, we wanted to create a taqueria that paid respect to traditional dishes such as: sopa de tortilla, tacos al pastor, and tamales con verduras. Tacubaya has allowed us to recreate the beloved dishes usually found in Mexico at street vendor stands and in home kitchens and family taquerias.

Sophisticated preparation of Mexican staples with Niman Ranch-sourced meat plus vegetarian options.

Delicious and innovative gourmet Mexican food, served in a bright and cheery atmosphere. We had their asparagus and goat cheese quesadillas, which were absolutely amazing, though you might want to pair them with something else to round out a full meal. We loved the bright secondary colors and rounded architectural features. It’s also about half the price of other restaurants on Fourth Street. Highly recommended.

Delicious food. Annoying because you have to stand in line to order, which can sometimes mean that you’re in line for a while.

stopped by here during their happy hour (3-6pm). great deals during happy hour! i got two veggie tacos, chips and salsa, and a limonata all for under $20! friendly staff and food came out fast although it was relatively empty when i went. veggie tacos were some of the best i’ve ever had! not a lot of places can do flavorful and filling veggie tacos but they were good. had my pup with me so we dined on the enclosed outdoor patio.

They mentioned gluten free desert in the board but was having egg. After mentioning they mentioned to come back and never did. It’s important to care of someone beliefs specially living in the town berkeley.

First time at 4th Street in Berkeley on Saturday 10:30am and it surprisingly wasn’t busy. They have tables outside, inside with open door, and upstairs so very spacious. Lots of options for food and drink. The breakfast nacho thing was super yummy! Everything was solid, however, nothing that knocked my socks off. Would I come back? Maybe if I was in the mood when around the area but nothing specific that jumped out at me. Still a lovely place to meet up for some grub.

My family of three agree on 5 stars. We ordered al pastor tacos and carne asada tacos which were both flavorful and they were nice portions. My six year old ordered quesadillas and she loved the housemade tortillas and gooey cheese. The churros were lovely and had the perfect texture and finish to our meal. The space is beautifully colorful, large and open, we had the 2nd floor to ourselves.

Initial ordering experience was efficient and friendly. Drinks were presented immediately with silverware, but I didn’t have enough hands for it all so I had to leave a drink behind to find a table then come back; a tray would have been helpful. Food was mild but tasty, made with good ingredients, and better with hot sauce. Ordered 3 tacos, but only 2 came, which is what I was apparently charged for and they didn’t make any effort to make it right, and I didn’t want to put up a fight. Even though it wasn’t yet very busy, the table we found was not clean so we wiped it down and then after we finished we had to bus our own baskets, plates, and cups to the waste bin that was adjacent to the free chilled water and hot sauce in a high traffic area; again, trays would have helped. I’d go back, but I’d get it to go.

Literally the best service and the best food. Fresh made tortillas and their happy hour is such a good deal. Come here at least once a week since our office is right around the corner.
