Social Profile:

Tacubaya is a taqueria in the 4th Street shopping district of Berkeley. It is named after the neighborhood in Mexico City where famed architect Luis Barragan lived. Much like Barragan’s modern architecture, which in its purity and simplicity was respectful of tradition, we wanted to create a taqueria that paid respect to traditional dishes such as: sopa de tortilla, tacos al pastor, and tamales con verduras. Tacubaya has allowed us to recreate the beloved dishes usually found in Mexico at street vendor stands and in home kitchens and family taquerias.

Sophisticated preparation of Mexican staples with Niman Ranch-sourced meat plus vegetarian options.

Wow! The torta I got was delicious! I would gladly drill a few more holes in my belt to make room for more of those.
I wish I worked close by.

service wasn’t the best as the bartender was a bit rude and the waiters a little slow. the meal was lovely however PLEASE stop putting spinach in the sopa de tortilla— I’ve eaten this all over Mexico and have never had it with spinach, it’s not traditional and takes away from the smoothness of the dish.

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid and it never disappoints. The tacos are delicious and the churros are super super fresh. I love the limonata and it’s the perfect lunch spot if you’re shopping on 4th street.

Highly recommend the corn and zucchini taco, I actually thought it was more flavorful than the fish taco. You pay at the front before sitting down.

Plenty of seating and the food comes out fast. There’s two bathrooms in the back.

We tried this place on a Tuesday afternoon. It wasn’t busy at all and we sat outside on the patio. The food arrived relatively quickly and tasted pretty good. I ordered the chicken tacos ($5 each) and my partner ordered the chicken enchiladas with a beer. My tacos were really wet and I couldn’t tell if it was grease or if the chicken was just really juicy. Had good flavor otherwise. Overall, I enjoyed eating here.

Perfect Spot for Groups and Families!

Tacubaya is hands down one of the best places to gather with friends or family. Their red and green chilaquiles are out of this world—perfectly sauced with just the right crunch. The refried black beans are flawless, creamy, and packed with flavor. And their homemade tortillas? Pure perfection—fresh, warm, and a must-have with any meal.

The casual, welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy great food and conversation, whether you’re with a big group or just your family. Everyone always leaves happy and full. Highly recommend for delicious Mexican food and a great time!

I ordered 4 tacos 3 steak And one chicken. The Steak was decent. I’d recommend it over the chicken for sure. Good amount of meat $5 per taco. But the chicken wasn’t seasoned well or at all. It looked to be boiled.very spacious place. Upstairs and downstairs with outdoor seating as well. Also vegetarian options .

I’m so sorry but these were the worst tacos I’ve ever had in my life. Not only so expensive ($14 for small TWO tacos?…), but idk what seasoning they used, but it was not good. My steak taco was such a weird cut of steak and weirdly seasoned. My Al pastor legitimately tasted like fish. I ate them bc I felt bad for wasting $14, but that was a mistake because I felt extremely queasy on the way home. Genuinely astonishingly unpleasant to eat, please just go to a local taco truck!!

Ordered 2 street tacos and chicken tortilla soup. It was comfort food, but $38.00? Definitely paid for the location setting too. And no free chips and salsa.

I would have provided a higher rating on the food if the al pastor in my taco had not been cold to lukewarm. Disappointing as I had not been in the Bay Area since June. My sister had the same issue with her taco as well. Otherwise, the relleno was excellent as usual.
