I was in Hilo this week with family and we decided to visit this location an overheard one of the staff mention something about hating gay people and laughing about the incident at the Pulse nightclub. I’m not sure who it was that said all this, but I heard the name Tim get brought up and he was getting reprimanded by his other coworkers. I understand that people have different social and political views, but to laugh at a traumatizing event that happened years ago really made me uncomfortable and makes me wonder what kind of people taco bell hires. Other than that, the service was great and even though it was busy, I managed to get my food at a reasonable time.

I walk up, and there’s this big sign on the door that says “Please use the kiosk.” You already know I hate those things — I like talking to real people, not screens.

So I ignore the sign and go to the counter. This young dude comes up to take my order, and man… he had the energy of a sloth on NyQuil. Straight up looked at me like, “What the heck do you want?” Like I was bothering him or something.

He’s barely awake, mumbling through the whole thing, totally not caring — but hey, at least he got the order right. I ordered two lunch boxes, and even he couldn’t mess that up.

Then a few minutes later, I needed to use the restroom. I see him just wandering around, not doing much. He notices me, walks over like a zombie and asks what I want. I tell him I need the bathroom, and he grabs the key like it weighs 200 pounds, then sleepwalks over to open it for me. No eye contact, no words — just vibes of “I hate this place.”

He opens the door, doesn’t say anything, and shuffles back like a ghost back to his post. Whole thing felt like I was in a weird low-budget episode of The Office.

Taco Bell Hilo is the best one on the island. For veg options, no meat/cheese/sour cream… you can order “fresco” style & they substitute pico de gallo.

Thank you for being open & having great customer service. (Unlike kona side)

Due to a payment error (this has happened at this location before), I was told to drive up & come inside to pay. Park, front door is locked. Ignored for 5 minutes. A Large gentleman finally comes over and was very hostile, saying dining room is closed. I understand but was told just minutes before to come in to pay. Finally a manager by the name “Cherry” continued with the same hostility saying her employee was wrong & refused to even sell me or issue me my food for free. Very, very unprofessional establishment.. Just wanted a couple chalupas

I hesitate between 3 & 4 stars, the thing is I love Taco Bell, I really do. However, I have walked in ordered one thing and waited 22 minutes for it on more than one occasion. Meanwhile I see cars go the drive thru & leave while I’m still waiting. They seem to prioritize the drive thru orders over the walk in orders… Which if you are drive thru it’s great. But if you are walking in you may need to call your job and say you are going to be late, which is what I had to do. Please note I still love Taco Bell but if you are walking in without a half hour to spare, it’s probably better to just keep walking.

If you like gambling, come to this taco bell. I ordered 2 crunch wraps and 2 bean and cheese burritos. Everyone working there was shouting slurs faster than eminem in rap god. After waiting 35 minutes I went up and talked to them and they finally gave me my order, which was just sitting there ready to go for however long. The cashier was SO HIGH he could barely string a sentence together, and he just kept saying random nonsense while pointing at my food, so I said “sure thing bro” and just walked away. After I got home and checked, I realized they shorted me a crunch wrap, however, when they made the bean and cheese burritos they added hella ground beef instead of beans, which was neat.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this Taco Bell location due to the behavior of a manager named Maria. As a disabled veteran, I disclosed my PTSD to her, seeking some understanding or accommodation, but instead, I was met with laughter and complete disrespect. This incident was not only humiliating but also deeply upsetting.

The lack of empathy and professionalism shown by Maria is unacceptable, particularly in a customer service environment. Her actions have ensured that I will not return to this location, and I strongly recommend that corporate take a serious look into how their managers treat vulnerable customers. This kind of behavior reflects poorly on the brand and should not be tolerated.

I urge Taco Bell corporate to address this issue to prevent future occurrences and to restore some faith in their commitment to customer respect and dignity.
