It started out pretty rough but it didn’t end terribly. We got there and there was no one at the hostess stand, yet two employees just standing around. There was a sign that said to go to the bartender. Bartender told us to wait but didn’t ask what we were there for. We were ignored for 15 minutes until my husband stopped a waitress and told her we were there with a reservation. She was completely surprised but found us a seat. She seemed to be the only one taking orders with a 20 top as well as a couple of small tables so she had a hard time getting around to us. The cheese curds were good and so was my Cesar salad. My husband ordered a steak and wasn’t even asked how he wanted it cooked. It just came out medium rare. The asparagus was really bad, in our opinion. Thankfully, we got to end our night with a really good dessert – apple cinnamon pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I really wouldn’t ever go here again. It just isn’t worth it to us.

Little hidden gem in the middle of Wisconsin. Tonight, I had the pleasure of the best bartender in Wisconsin named Jasmine. Not once did my drink go empty. Friendly, engaging even with a moderately full bar. I will return

I absolutely loved every moment of my stay at Hotel Retlaw but unfortunately my dining experience was horrible!

I made a reservation ahead of time, but when I arrived at the restaurant there were only 3 other tables seated which was a pleasant surprise! My friend and I stood at the sign as instructed and waited for an employee which took approximately 10 minutes. There was a server who made eye contact multiple times but never made any contact with us. Eventually the bartender (who was not behind the bar this entire time) came up to us and seated us. He immediately told us that they were not only short staffed but a customer just had a medical emergency. This customer was being assisted by paramedics and didn’t require any additional assistance from restaurant staff.

When our server finally arrived at our table we were prepared with our entire order knowing that there may be a bit of a wait. The server seemed relieved by this and stated she would be back with our drinks. This took over 30 minutes. We ordered an appetizer as well because we were starving and again knew we would be waiting. The appetizer (cheese curds that had breading that wasn’t finished frying) arrived about an hour later. We didn’t say anything because we were so hungry.

Two hours…I repeat TWO HOURS after we ordered our fish fry, it arrived at our table. I can say with 100% honesty that I have NEVER sent a dish back at a restaurant let alone before I even tasted it. However, when the perch and French fries I ordered crumbled in my hand like dust I sent it back immediately. I told the server that I do not want to wait any longer and to just charge me for my drinks. It seemed like she was more relieved that we were leaving than actually fixing the problem.

Very disappointing for such an absolutely beautiful establishment. Hopefully this isnt a common occurrence…but I will definitely be ordering in my next stay

I specifically picked this restaurant to celebrate tonight because I love the environment, drinks, and food. However, our bartender encouraged a group that came in who was drunk….shotgunning beers at the counter, slamming shots, banging on the piano, and playing their own music from their phone very loudly. I’m extremely disappointed that this was allowed on Valentine’s night. We were trying to have a romantic night and a nice dinner. There’s literally taverns, right across the street that these people could go to. Can you control who comes in? No.Can you control the environment?Yes.

With that said you guys were very understaffed tonight for Valentine’s Day and I applaud the workers you had who worked so hard. They did an amazing job. Where is the manager to help them?

Great experience again just like our previous visits when it was Jazzmine’s. Clean and elevated environment. Fantastic food that was cooked and seasoned perfectly. These dishes are unlike some other restaurants in Fond du Lac as they are thoughtfully planned out and meticulously prepared. The whole team worked their butts off as they are likely under staffed for how busy they were but they still delivered a memorable experience and all helped each other out. Great to still see Bryton at the bar as he is energetic and knowledgeable. Good selection of bourbon and whiskey. This is a hidden gem of Fond du Lac and I wish they did more to make their presence known to the public!

Had no idea this was an option for dinner before. So decided to try it out. Absolutely beautiful atmosphere. Everything here is made from scratch! Food was great. We both had steak. Both came out exactly as requested. It was very peppery but personally I thought it was excellent! Even though peppery, it was balanced with other flavors. The bar manager was our server, excellent service! Drinks stayed filled & offered us unusual options as well that are not on menus!
Absolutely would recommend.
We had garlic mashed potatoes, very creamy.
Cheese curds- excellent
Veggies- bacon Brussel sprouts. Yum!
& Grilled asparagus- so good!
Highly recommend!
Rib eye & sirloin both excellent.

Tried several drinks too
Drink pictured is the Lei’d Back at the top. Very flavorful and different than anything I’ve had before. Highly recommend. Ask each on what they are experimenting with too!

Want to start off by saying the service by this young lady was amazing but the food, that was where the issue lies. We ordered 2 salads which you would assume would be quick. No they took over 35 minutes. They tasted fine no issues there but the restaurant was not busy at all. Maybe one other table. Just want to warn anyone if you’re in a rush maybe choose elsewhere.

Amelia was great wait staff. The ribeye with blue cheese, broccolini and Brussels sprouts was great.
Bar was a little slow but no complaints as the bartender was giving special attention to his bar guests.

The bartender was chatting with a couple when I arrived – when I asked for a wine list he dropped off the “by the glass” list without looking at me. When he came back after 5 minutes I asked for the bottle list. He didn’t say a word – just went to get it, tossed it at me and went to the other side of the bar. I had a similar experience when asking for a food menu: it was like my presence was an interruption of his conversations with the other diners. I ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, which he brought over in a chiller (bonus points) but plopped down with a glass and then walked away (back to normal). I actually like serving myself, but it’s a little unusual to not have the bartender at least OFFER to open the bottle (it was a screw top, thank goodness!). Although he didn’t ask how I liked it, it was surprisingly good in case YOU’RE curious, and a good deal for $30. Speaking of curious, I now know much more about this bartender than I really needed to, like the fact that he likes spicy food and is a BIG fan of Carolina Reaper peppers. He mentioned that to a couple different people. He finally engaged in conversation with me when I asked about the menu, but his comments were strangely specific to whether I wanted to feel light or food-coma-ish after my meal, as if that were the only important thing to consider. On to the meal: the crabcakes were passable. Way too much tartar sauce underneath (I think they called it aioli – but it was tartar sauce). The cakes were fishy, but I’m pretty picky since I’m a Maine seafood dealer, so I others might like them. They are gluten free, which was a bonus. The bartender recommended the salmon (I know, I know, WHY would I listen to his recommendation??). I got the salmon over polenta, and the maple sauce on the salmon was very tasty but the salmon itself was extremely overcooked. Totally dried out. The polenta was abundant but relatively low in flavor – it could have been good with just a bit more seasoning. The glazed carrots were very good. I did have one normal interaction when a waitress who happened to be behind the bar asked me if everything tasted good. I told her it was fine. The atmosphere was nice and the chairs were comfortable. Also, the $30 bottle of Californian SB was a nice deal. All in all, I’d say go somewhere else. I really WANTED to like the place as I do like the hotel, but my goodness that bartender should NOT be in the service industry.

High Class dining with food to match. The service is good but a little short staffed. Wait time for food was good bit drinks take a little longer. Bartender was great but was covering the bar and dinning room. Dinner was amazing. Look forward to going back.
