1st visit but will not be my last with this great menu! So much to try! Sarah, our server was AWESOME! Great recommendations! We enjoyed the Calamari, the Crab Hush Puppies (yummy Honey Butter) & the delicious Wedge Salad! Enjoyed the Crablegs and warm butter! But the feature at the table was the TRIO – SCALLOPS, CRAB, & SHRIMP in a delicious wine based cream sauce!! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS

A hidden gem. Spent my birthday dinner here. Atmosphere is a mix of diner and beach classy!!!! And I dig it. Cocktails are great, very good bourdon collection for a small bar. Oyster for an appetizer, pretty good. Idk, I used to apalachicola oyster from Alabama / Florida so these Virginia ones are just ….. ok. Wife had the rack of ribs which she loved. I had the RIBEYE……. and it blew me away. It was truly exceptional. 10 out of 10, seasoned to prefect, cooked on a charcoal grill with great char!!! Honestly the best steak I have had in years!!!! Definitely the best in Virginia so far!!

Like many others, found this place the last night of our stay. Food was amazing. We visited some of the other “bigger” restaurants on the beach and their food paled in comparison. Top notch. I will DEFINITELY return when I’m back in the area.

We hit this spot because it was close to our rental property and the menu looked good. The food was extraordinarily great. We had oysters, raw and grilled, and calamari as appetizers. Most tasty calamari I can remember eating – hands down. The seafood trio was excellent as was the wedge salad! We will be back the next time we visit! While the ambiance was okay, it fit.

Breading on calamari fell off as soon as you touched it. No seasoning on the breading at all. Grilled oysters needed more flavor and a crunchy topping to make it complete. Bloody Mary needed more spice and salt. Good service .

We’ve been coming to Swell Charcoal Grill and Raw Bar since the very beginning, even before they officially opened. One time we accidentally walked in while they were still under construction, and instead of turning us away, they shared drinks with us over the bar. That kind of warmth and hospitality says everything about the people who run this place.
The food has always been outstanding. I absolutely love the ribeye. It’s consistently incredible and honestly one of my favorites anywhere. My wife is all about the seafood, which she says is always fresh and delicious, and my dad loves everything he’s ever tried here. There’s truly something for everyone.
We’ve made it a tradition to come here every year for our wedding anniversary, including the day right after our actual wedding. That says a lot about how special this place is to us. You can really feel the pride and care that goes into the food and the experience.
Highly recommend Swell. Great people, great atmosphere, and amazing food every single time.

Don’t come here if you are allergic to smoke. Guy next to me at the bar smoking a vape. I guess he is cool with the staff because no one says anything. I know ordinance doesn’t say you can’t “vape” inside but most places understand those of us with sensitivies and dont allow it. Please pass this place by and check out the two other places nearby. Much better.

Fish house has some AMAZING views. Definitely worth checking out before coming here. Prices are cheaper and the food is MUCH better. Plus a more robust drink menu.

Just had dinner at Swell Restaurant in OV, AMAZING!! Great oysters, crab dip and pretzels was one of the best we’ve had. Rob’s lobster mac and cheese is sooo good with tons of lobster! I cant remeber the name of the other lobster pasta but he couldnt even finish it all. Overall great experience with great drinks! Great locally owned spot.
