I came to Lynchburg to do some shopping, and I decided to stop by this place because it had good reviews and I was in the mood for some good sushi. I had to admit, I was disappointed to find out that they only offered imitation crab sticks inside their sushi, instead of what I have been accustomed to at other sushi restaurants. I opted out of the sushi and decided to order a Poke bowl instead. I was surprised to find out that they only allow you to choose 3 toppings and charge for each additional, but OK, I went ahead and paid the extra fee per topping. I asked for light sauce as I cannot have their sauces, but I can’t usually get away with light sauces. I was very disappointed to see that my bowl had been drenched in sauce; however, the older lady who brought me the bowl was so sweet, I didn’t have the heart to send it back. I thought I could eat around the sauce, but that was not the case. Although the bowl looked delicious, it was unbeatable. I was upset that I had paid for this bowl thinking I could eat some of it, but instead, I had to throw it away. I tried offering it to my husband, but he also agreed that the sauce was overwhelming. I don’t think that I will be back, as this experience was not the greatest, especially being my first time. Between the additional fees per toppings and the food not being made the way I requested, I think I’ll go somewhere else next time.

Disappointing Experience at Suzaku Cafe Lynchburg*
I recently visited Suzaku Cafe in Lynchburg, and unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. While the food was decent, the cleanliness and service left much to be desired.
Firstly, the restaurant was in dire need of a deep clean. The floors, tables, and chairs were all visibly dirty, and the overall atmosphere felt grimy. It was uncomfortable to dine in an environment that didn’t prioritize cleanliness.
To make matters worse, when our food arrived, it was served in a carry-out container, despite us dining in. This was not only inconvenient but also felt like a clear indication that the restaurant’s priority lies with delivery services like DoorDash, rather than their in-house customers.
The food itself was average, but the subpar service and cleanliness overshadowed any potential enjoyment.
*Suggestions for Improvement:*
– Prioritize deep cleaning and maintenance to create a comfortable dining environment
– Ensure that dine-in customers receive their food in proper tableware, not carry-out containers
– Reevaluate priorities to focus on providing excellent service to in-house customers
Until these issues are addressed, I would caution others to think twice before visiting Suzaku Cafe in Lynchburg. May try door dashing food.

THIS IS A POSITIVE REVIEW!!! THEY HANDLED THIS SITUATION WITH KINDNESS! LOVE THEM!
I am gluten sensitive but love sushi. So I typically just order rolls that don’t come with any sauces that are soy sauce based. We ordered over the phone for pick up. Once we got the sushi home One of the rolls I ordered they put eel sauce on it, despite on the menu no sauces being mentioned and stipulating to them no soy sauce because of gluten allergy. We called back and There was some confusion then of they thought eel sauce doesn’t contain soy sauce but then they looked at the ingredients and it said soy sauce. BUT they thought their eel sauce had no soy sauce because it said gluten free on it. With this being a phone conversation and not being able to see label in person we just asked if possible to remake all 3 rolls they were in the box. They said no problem at all and were very apologetic. The sushi at the end of the day tasted great. They handled the situation so nicely and we would order from them again despite the confusion of the eel sauce.

We got a Dynamite Roll, Chicken Fried Rice, and a Pineapple Green Tea with popping Strawberry, and all of it was incredible. The food was cooked to perfection and the drink was great.
The staff here are very kind and patient, and definitely deserve a tip when you checkout.

It tastes how it looks…blah! The pieces of steak was over cooked and absolutely no seasoning..no seasoning to the whole dish…the added egg didn’t even save this dish. (Steak fried rice)

Not a 4.6 star restaurant. Apparently this place changed hands in 2022. I never ate there pre-2022, but the prior owners must have built up a great restaurant to have that high a rating. It is definitely a takeout restaurant that happens to have a few dine-in tables. You must order up front before going to pick a table – not a typical sit down restaurant. Pay up front including tip – though not sure what I’m tipping for if I have to order at a counter. The lady at the front, though polite, was relatively clueless as to Asian food. When I asked what types of sake they had (ie. Nigori…) she looked at me like I had antlers sticking out of my head. The place was decently clean. The miso soup was bland and came in a stryofoam takeout container complete with lid and plastic disposable spoon. The Kani salad was fairly tasty and came in a plastic deli style clamshell with a disposable plastic fork. The Rainbow Roll thankfully came on an actual plate with chopsticks, but a disposable plastic cup for soy sauce. The Rainbow Roll was actually up to par – enjoyed it. I feel like they could maybe be OK if they committed to an actual dine-in experience with competent host(ess) waitstaff and actual silverware and dinnerware. Or – just go full take out and get rid of the seating. As-is, a no-go for dine in for me.

I’ve eaten here numerous times over the years, and I ate here a lit before they changed owners. Before they changed owners, this was my favorite place to go for Asian food. The flavor, quality, and everything else was great, but ever since they changed owners, the food is not it at all. There is no flavor, the portions are fairly small, and there just isn’t anything quality to it. It tastes as though the food wasn’t seasoned and like they had no clue what they were even making. I ordered udon noodle soup and it was the most disappointing thing I’ve ever gotten.

I have always had great Service and food at this restaurant until tonight. The older lady at the register questioned the lady in the kitchen for packing my food in containers other than Styrofoam. The reason why I needed non-Styrofoam containers is the last time I patronized this restaurant the sauce was so hot in the Styrofoam container was so thin that it melted the Styrofoam into my food, making a hole and rendering that portion of my meal in edible without ingesting the Styrofoam. When I went to the restaurant to pick up my meal, the older lady had an issue with it being packaged in a plastic container. The elderly lady went through my bag twice and questioned the cook as to why it was packed that way, and then shot me a frown handed me my food. I spent over $21 for one meal. I find this behavior totally unacceptable and even though I patronize this restaurant for many years in the past, this will be my last visit. Very upset and very disappointed… To note I also called back to the restaurant immediately afterward, and addressed the lady who had the horrible Attitude and unprofessional handling of my meal and she passed the phone off after saying she was busy to the cook who was very accommodating and kind.

I love Japenese and it was a bit hard to communicate with the staff. Japenese is my fourth language but they spoke in Spanish. Latin Spanish was my third language and it was hard for me to understand them. They messed up my order several times but was always willing to make it right. The food was very fresh and extremely good. The restaurant was clean and it somewhat had a Japenese vibe to it.

Choices, choices, choices. Lots of variety and the quality is excellent. Everyone should be able to find something to suite their tastes. Vegan options, gluten free options, and fully customizable menu. The portions are generous with well prepared and fast service. Plenty of drink options from fountain drinks, bottle drinks, smoothies, and bubble teas. Poke bowl/wrap options, soups, hibachi dinners, traditional take-out, sushi, extra sides and appetizers.

Hibachi chicken – tender and succulent with an appropriate amount of sauce, onion and zucchini was properly just slightly firm. Hibachi vegetable – had the onion and zucchini, but also mushrooms, carrots, and broccoli. Also cooked with a delicious sauce and tender with slight crisp. The yum yum sauce was provided at the table and not an overly sweet version. Complemented the rice perfectly.
