Wife had an appointment in Newark earlier and before our day even started, we had been talking about dinner. I wanted a cheese steak, she thought about it and asked if Claymont Steak Shop was ok since she was in the area. It had been many years since I’d had one and looked forward to it.
The thick cut steak fries were good! Missing some malt vinegar, but I’ll just have to pick some up for next time. I believe that they do charge extra for some of their condiments, if memory recalls. Nice!
Then, I get to the steak. Open it up. Had to seriously examine it to see if I was seeing it right. When I pinched the bread, it cracked. Stale. I grabbed an inch of bread and nothing was in it. Opened it up and there was hardly any steak in there and what was in there was so chewey to be inedible. I’d asked for raw onion and all that was on there were about 7 tiny pieces. The cheese itself wasn’t anywhere.
Wife apologized for bringing home such bad food but it wasn’t her fault. Just when you have the name of your specialty in the name of your establishment, it behooves you to come correct with excellent product for the price. My advice is to avoid. There’s plenty of other places to get a good cheese steak that are worth your hard earned money.

Every time my Mother visits from Carolina’s, she asking for a cheesesteak from this restaurant. I can truly say I get it! Even though I only eat here when she comes because I am not a cheesesteak person but I do enjoy eating one when she visits! Delicious, delicious and delicious I also appreciate the welcoming cashier that always has the energy. Thank you for your service

We always have a great experience eating here. The food is delicious and not a lot of people inside so we were able to grab a table. We typically go in for lunch and have not been in during dinner so I’m not sure if the table situation is different. Plus, we typically go here when the UD students are on a break.
Parking is free as well on the side of the restaurant.

Ordered through door dash, they for some reason decided to mix up all the toppings. My son’s large turkey sub got my husband’s cheesesteak toppings of ketchup, fried onions and pickles, gross. My small turkey sub got my son’s toppings of only oil which he said had barely any oil. And the only sandwich that was correct was my husband’s sub. Highly disappointing especially for the high prices they charge.

I am from New Orleans, so I definitely enjoy food with flavor. I am more accustomed to a more moist sandwich, but aside from that, it was great. The fries were delicious, and I loved the mixed peppers that were provided. The service was good, and the atmosphere was awesome. If the opportunity comes again to go I would definitely go!

I ordered for pickup from the Newark, DE location. The large portions and decent price point. Unfortunately, I did not find the food tasty. I didn’t eat but a few bites of the Steak Cheese Fries and Meatball Sub as it was flavorless. This was my first time eating here and unsure if this is normal or a one off. I offer no opinion at this time.

NEVER HAVE I EVER….had a “Grilled Cheese” that wasn’t “grilled”. My folks were in town and wanted cheesesteaks, they didn’t want to drive to Philly so they settled on Claymont steak shop, I personally would have gone somewhere else because I didn’t want a cheesesteak from there due to there being bones in two cheesesteaks I ordered from the other location last year, but since I stay in the area and can drive to my favorite spot in Philly whenever I feel like it, I figured I could find something else on the menu. I am a very finicky eater, I don’t eat large portions and don’t like to waste food…I usually check the kids & 55+ Items first lol…they had neither option…so I went with a classic, something you could never go wrong with…oh but it did…I was probably too “lifted” at the time to realize that this classic item was listed under the “warm” section on the menu but was promptly informed when I tried to figure out wth was taking a grilled cheese so long O _ O that they make them in the oven! What in the total mind *you know what* because correct me if I am wrong…but two pieces of bread in the oven is cheese bread not a grilled cheese…but I’m like whatever, as long as it’s good…well nope…the bread was drier than the Sahara Desert, so maybe someone forgot to butter my bread or is this how it’s served? I honestly don’t even really care because $4.49 is an irrational amount to charge for two pieces of bread and cheese that someone throws in the oven for 15 minutes not to mention these little mushroom crumbs that I got for $6.99 lol. I took that one bite of the sandwich and trashed it, such a waste of time…I just don’t care to visit this establishment anymore.

If you order through DoorDash they purposely ruin or take over an hour to bring your food. I called in and was given attitude by the guy on the phone saying it would be 5 more minutes. This was at an hour and 15 min and estimated delivery on DoorDash said 30 min. Never again.
