WORST dining experience not only in Puerto Viejo but in many years. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! THE CHEF IS A FRAUD. See the video attached for the chef’s shockingly condescending behaviour, lack of empathy, lack of morals, and lack of ANY accountability!
Our group of 3 people made it clear we were ordering vegan, so our boundaries were clear from the moment we sat down (important note for later on).
We ordered miso soup to start, after a long time the waitress brought out COLD salty soup and when I asked her to take it back and bring hot soup I watched as she left and put my soup IN THE MICROWAVE!!! I then had to ask her to stop take it out and explained that I don’t eat microwaved food with radiation. That’s when I realized they don’t even make their food fresh and it’s all pre-bought.
She then brought out the veggie gyozas which were COLD and STALE. We had to ask the waitress to take it back and bring fresh food. After a while, she brought back 6 gyozas and the 3 of us ate 2 each – ONLY TO REALIZE SOME OF THEM WERE PORK – which one of us realized only AFTER eating them and noticing the strange taste!!! When we mentioned it to the chef, he acknowledged they were pork, laughed it off, didn’t care whatsoever, and said “the frozen pack of gyozas comes mixed with both veggie and pork gyozas”. WHAT??? No apology no nothing! He mocked us and laughed!
We were so disturbed by this we decided to leave at this point, and pay for the food so far. I completely lost my appetite and one of us almost threw up.
The chef became extremely angry that we were leaving and although we were already at the till saying we refuse to eat anything else and trying to pay, he took his time still tried to give us the rest of our order to-go (which wasn’t even ready) AND charge us for it! Even though we decided to leave BEFORE that last order came! We were standing at the cashier trying to pay and leave for at least 10-15minutes, while the chef took his time (while yelling at us in rage) to slowly continue making the sushi we were explicitly saying we refused to eat or ever support his business and that we just wanted to pay for the food so far and leave. He became very enraged and caused a major argument, began accusing us of things that had nothing to do with us, it took forever just to leave.
By the way, NONE of this food is authentic and the chef has no idea about Japanese food, most of the food was bought in a frozen package and just microwaved (we witnessed them do it!). Everything is extremely overpriced, compared to ALL other restaurants in Puerto Viejo but most importantly because it’s NOT authentic and he is just reheating frozen packages. The wildest part is that just the appetizers – a smoothie, 2 miso soups, a veggie noodle soup, and the 1 order of (6 pieces of) gyozas, ended up costing OVER $40 usd! The chef even had the audacity to still take a tip for himself, automatically added to our bill. Absolute thievery this place is. Wild disrespect of boundaries and NOT any food-safety practices were implemented.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. BAD VIBES, BAD SERVICE, BAD CHEF, NEVER RETURNING.

Great little sushi spot! I would highly recommend! It is a one man show and a waitress which is impressive. All the food was delicious and made to perfection. If you are in town and looking for a place to grab a bite go here. Get a reservation if you have a big party to better prepare them for everything. Chef treated me to an extra piece of nigiri right before leaving that melted in my mouth. Top of the charts don’t miss a chance to grab a bite here while in town. Pura Vida

We had a great experience, the sushi was awesome! We also got the Tuna tartar and it was so unique and flavorful unlike anything I’ve had before. The staff was also very friendly and attentive they even gave us nigiri to try the freshness of the tuna. He told us he gets his tuna fresh daily from local fisherman and you could definitely taste the quality. I would definitely come back on my next trip!

Unfortunately, this was a truly horrible and disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, the chef was rude, unwelcoming, and dismissive. The overall atmosphere felt chaotic and deeply uncomfortable.
The restaurant is extremely loud, located right next to a busy road, and surrounded by people who appeared drunk or on drugs, which completely ruined any chance of enjoying a meal. The music was blaring and depressing, adding to the unpleasant environment.
The sushi was absolutely not worth the price — extremely overpriced for the quality offered — and honestly, the chef seemed to have no idea what he was doing. Both the food and the service were a major letdown.
What made the experience even worse was the chef’s clear hostility toward vegans, when we spoke about our passion for being kind to animals. It was obvious he has something against vegans, which made us feel even more unwelcome and judged.
The chef and staff were inconsiderate throughout the visit, and overall it was an experience we would never want to repeat. Definitely not coming back.

Absolutely amazing experience! This was my second time visiting, this time with my girlfriend, and it was even better than the first. The Pirate Roll and the Hippie Roll were both incredible fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. And the tempura ice cream… WOW easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
The atmosphere was fantastic, with a DJ playing great music that really set the vibe for the night. On top of that, the service was excellent friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome the whole time.
We loved everything about this place and will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended! ✨

Adorable hole in the wall. The service was unmatched! Marlan was wonderful, welcoming and enthusiastic. His daughter, Victoria was super sweet and helpful. I am somewhat of a sushi snob and this sushi did not disappoint. The dumplings were phenomenal, the green parrot roll with mango was delicious but my favorite part may have been the mojitos! There is one guy that makes the food, takes orders, makes drinks, checks people out….and he is killin it! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.
