Service was on point. Got a free fried rice nigiri and when I was raving about it the server on duty promised me an omakase of fried rice next time. Might just take her up on that offer
The manager was very nice and hospitable – a highlight for me. She even gave us an extra bite at the end of our meal which was a lovely touch and very appreciated.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because my friend and I felt something didn’t sit right later in the evening which leads me to believe something could have been off with the food quality. But it’s hard to say since everything tasted fine in the moment. But we both felt this way.
When it comes to omakase, although the experience was enjoyable, I wouldn’t consider this place my go-to.
At 60+ per person, I need to temper my expectations.
Since the motto here is “less talk mote eat” I will get straight into it about the omakase since I avoided the rolls.
First off the music – Fergie/Black Eyed Peas? Interesting choice of music . Then again I have had the most amazing sashimi in the basement levels of Kyoto Station in Japan, so who am I to judge? It’s a … Vibe?
We ordered beer – two Sapporos and after a long day’s work, having it barely cold was not the vibe. We drank it anyways but still … A cold mug instead of just the can would have been nice. Ah well. Consequences. I regret not asking so that’s on me!
The Food (CIRCA 12-2023)
Fluke/Flounder – smooth, not bad but nothing that wowed me.
Scallop – nice.
Arctic Trout – interesting but for some reason I expected this to be the more salty of the bunch.
Squid – not too chewy, and not my favorite. It was a bland love affair. I wanted to love it but we just couldn’t commit to one another in the end. So no.
Sea bream – toasty! I wanted more sauce on here but I wouldn’t dare ask.
Salmon – flavor!! Okay making this like an Everything thing Bagel with flakes of salt on it – this is the wow piece of the course. They should keep this no matter how much the menu changes seasonally.
Yellowtail – truffle salt!! Also good but the salmon is still king IMO.
Uni + Wagyu + Truffle – This did not melt in my mouth the way I thought it would but it was still great! It’s not Kobe but it was good. I wanted it to be better than salmon hence why it was the only piece I took a video of.
Sweet Shrimp – ok, it beats out the squid in my mind, but not by much.
Fish Eggs – juicy! Fresh.
Eel – not bad.
The thing about omakase in NY is that it will never live up my ridiculous standards. I’m a spoiled brat when it comes to Sashimi, Omakase, etc.
I also like how the chef pay attention to detail. He would take the right amount of to make the pieces he is ready to serve us, instead of leavingnit out. This way, throughout the course the rice is kept warm.
For a $65, 12-course omakase that comes with A5 Wagyu and O-toro, whatelse to ask for?
Great experience here and will return for another lunch or dinner.
Highly recommend this place for a quick quality omakasa experience with excellent price.
