Insulting and rude. Did not present us menus, and when we tried to order the simple omakase set in the simplest manner, they made snide remarks about us. We are foreigners who researched lots about japan before traveling here and are very respectful of the culture. Of course there is a language barrier, but we try to shop and eat local, and at fair prices. We escaped the Tsukiji market to come here, and were too insulted and felt so uncomfortable, we left before we could be served. Shame to the owners.

**EDIT: let me clarify – the owner’s wife is rude and seemingly racist. I tried to order and she acted like I was an idiot. She made snide remarks about us, so people stared. So much that my wife was in tears.

The food is generally very good and the owner is very nice as well. He even gave me an extra piece of otoro.

The only I would say is, like many who visited at night, the price is significantly higher versus lunch.

There was a menu at the entrance that says ¥12,500 for one person, which I neglected to see.

When I entered, the lady immediately spotted that I don’t speak Japanese, so she passed me this foreigner special menu for ¥9,000. Obviously I would have liked to know in advance and felt a little on the spot, but I agreed nonetheless thinking it would be a nice experience anyway.

I sat down and the food came very quickly. First came the radish, then piece by piece the sushi came. It was a matter of 20 or so minutes and all the food was served. Then the chef proceeded to show me the menu again indicating that was it. The owner, with limited English, initiated small conversations, and then brought out a piece of otoro. The chef made an additional piece of sushi for me pointing at the owner saying it’s from him. I thanked him.

I would say the food is really not bad at all. Just that I would have liked them offering me the omakaze of the night menu as well for ¥12,500 and would have happily paid.

The foreigner special is quite similar to the lunch menu but at 5 times the price.

So if you come here, ask for the regular dinner omakaze, and do not accept the foreigner special.

My family went to this place by foot all the way from tokyo station at 7pm on 9 February, last monday. It took more than 20 minutes. There were only 3 or 4 people in the restaurant but they said they couldn’t accept more customers and serve us . I don’t know why. We wasted our time. It was my worst experience in Tokyo.

*** I have no idea what you’re talking about—we never even mentioned the menu. It looked like one group/team had booked the entire restaurant. Your hours are clearly listed as 11:30–2:00 and 5:00–23:00, so during open hours it shouldn’t be completely taken over by one party when there were many empty seats.

If you’re only accepting reservations even with empty seats at night, you should’ve clearly stated ‘Reservations are MANDATORY’—not just ‘Reservations available’ or ‘Reservations recommended.’

I ate lunch!
The sushis tastes not fresh!
The fish is like overnight one!
Service of the woman was so horrible, not polite at all.
Waiting for over 1.5 hours for disappointment!
Don’t waste your time and money if you want good sushi.

Add: The owner said I don’t get the taste because I’m a foreigner. that’s not just ridiculous, it’s kinda discriminatory.
The fish was just bad. Fresh fish doesn’t taste sour and soggy in any country.

This was my first meal. Came here during lunch and got the 1.5 lunch set for ¥1,700. I didn’t speak Japanese so had some trouble ordering. I was the only foreigner here and was a little nervous.

However the sushi was fresh and good. Had a good variety of different sushi that was tasty. The staff was polite, even though it was crowded. Reading the other reviews this seems to be a local favourite. Will recommend for its authenticity.

Ogawa is a great local lunch experience. I will be back next time I am in Tokyo. It is a husband wife team and there was a steady stream of customers for lunch from the time they opened until I left. Eat here only if you are looking for authenticity and great food at a great value. Don’t come here thinking that you are going to get over the top service. This is not that kind of a restaurant.

At lunch a member of my group rejected 1 piece of sushi due to an allergy – he was rudely reprimanded by the chef and asked to leave the restaurant. This wasn’t fair and totally killed the vibe for all of us. Chef needs to learn some basic manners. Food was decent for the price but there are better places to dine at!!

We have been to Japan many times over the years, and this was the singular most horrific dining experience we ever had. The place is empty for a reason. No respect for paying customers! Based on their conduct, it’s very likely the staff and chef need a reality check – truly unacceptable behaviour for any F&B establishment. There are similar reviews on Google if you bother to read others experiences.

Absolutely terrible. The assistant chef who was working part-time left in a hurry after serving the food very fast (faster than we eat the each piece of sushi) and asked for 12,000 yen per person. I think this is a scam when I see the lunch menu prices. Please do not visit. Even if you visit, it should be possible to have a reasonably priced meal at lunch or a cost-effective meal at the proper price.
