Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had! Went in for lunch and tried the 18 course omakase which was incredible. So many fresh fish that I’ve never tried before. The uni was so delicious, as was the Japanese hairy crab. Staff were attentive and informative. The environment is relaxing and chill as well, I felt very comfortable.

I was actually very excited for my omakase lunch. But upon seating, things started going downhill. First, we informed the waitress that we do not want shirako. The chef came over and asked again if we really didn’t want it because they already prepared. He said it in a way that made us really uncomfortable and indirectly hunting us to accept shirako. Next, they were so not prepared for the meal service. It’s 12pm and the chef is unwrapping the fish from the cling wrap. It looks like left over from the previous dinner service. During preparation, the ingredients keep dropping on the board. You can see the anago in my photo that there are sauce splatter on the plate. They can’t be bother with it. The staff are all Chinese and there are just no finesse to anything. I’m Chinese as well so I can understand all the shouting in the kitchen. It’s so unprofessional and really spoiled the whole ambience for our omakase lunch. It’s feels very transactional. So if you really want a good omakase experience, skip here and go somewhere else in NYC.

Sushi Makoto delivers one of the best omakase experiences in NYC!! The fish was incredibly fresh, and I loved how each piece was paired with just the right sauce or seasoning to bring out its flavor — nothing overpowering, just perfectly balanced. Highlights for me were the fatty tuna, Hokkaido scallop, and the otoro handroll, but honestly every course was on point.

The vibe is intimate and relaxed, with attentive service that makes the whole experience feel special without being pretentious. If you’re looking for an omakase with top-quality fish, thoughtful flavor pairings, and a smooth flow from start to finish, this spot is a must-try!!

Amazing place, you have the chance to talk, if you speak Japanese or someone with you that speaks, with the chef. Amazing knowledge of the sushi art.
The food is absolutely gorgeous and I recommending going there!!!

Rainy day kind of happiness ️✨
Had an 18-course omakase lunch with my husband today — and honestly, it was such a vibe. Quiet space, soft rain outside, and bite after bite of perfectly fresh sushi.
Japanese rice just hits different… but my top picks? Fatty tuna, aori ika, and kamasu — absolutely divine.
Such a calm, healing little lunch date.

Surprise to find this omakase in union square, they have cod milt tempura seasonally, it’s so flavorful and rich. The fish choices are great, fresh, incomparable with the $100ish omakase in the city, fish choices are similar to the $300 omakase. Price is great and tasty!

I left Sushimakito feeling more stressed than satisfied.

The fish was mediocre, the rice was poorly made and loose, and the wasabi was wildly inconsistent — one bite had no kick, the next was so painfully spicy I almost cried. When I politely mentioned it, the chef made it even hotter. After that, I honestly didn’t dare say another word.

The worst part was the omakase substitution. The course normally includes otoro, which I don’t eat — and instead of asking what I wanted, the chef quietly replaced it with salmon. Something I can get from Ralph’s. No explanation. No choice. Just decided for me.

On the plus side, the female server who poured our sake was kind and professional, and the dessert was genuinely good. That was the only bright spot.

We picked this place for Christmas Eve because of all the glowing reviews. After this experience, I honestly don’t trust a single one of them. They feel completely misleading.

We won’t be back.

Very good Omakase at NYC. We order the 18-course and add a lot for our dinner. The fish is flown in from Japan. It was very fresh and expertly prepared. chef will talk with u through the whole meal and had incredible attention to detail. There will have a book for the fish texture and flavor. Have good service at all.

An excellent 18 piece omakase at $160. Priced somewhere in the middle between the $85 strict one-hour joints, and the fancy $350-500 high end places. Decent value for money. Included some dishes from the kitchen (i.e. not only sushi) and a yummy dessert.

Traditional Omikase (chef’s choice) Sushi experience with some of the best food we’ve had in NYC. We had the 15-course meals with a couple add-ons at the end of our dinner. The fish is flown in from Japan. It was very fresh and expertly prepared. Our chef led us through the whole meal and had incredible attention to detail. He quickly noticed that I’m left-handed and presented the pieces of sushi opposite of how it would be placed for a right-handed person. We were blown away with the service and quality of the meal.
