Great food & good value – we picked this place over the ones in downtown. The server was very nice and recommended great dishes. We were there for a light dinner – all turned out to be great. I particularly liked the pork belly. The interior was very homey and cozy. The dishes they use was very cute. Will definitely return!

Incredible Sushi Quality and Freshness
If you are looking for top-tier sushi in the area, Sushi Kazoku is a standout destination. The quality of the fish is exceptional—everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh, clean, and was presented beautifully. Whether you are a fan of traditional nigiri or more creative specialty rolls, the chefs here clearly know what they are doing. The portions are generous, and the rice-to-fish ratio is perfect. It is easily some of the best sushi I’ve had recently, and it’s clear why they have such a loyal following.

Pro Tip: Make a Reservation
One thing to keep in mind is that this spot is no secret. It gets extremely busy, particularly on weekend nights and during the dinner rush. Because the dining area is cozy and popular, a reservation is highly beneficial. We saw several walk-ins having to wait quite a while, so planning ahead will definitely save you some frustration and ensure you get a seat. Even with the crowd, the restaurant maintains a high energy that makes for a fun, lively dining atmosphere.

‍ Service and the “Regulars” Dynamic
Overall, the service is pretty good. The staff is polite and they work hard to keep up with the fast pace of the restaurant. I did notice one small thing: there seems to be a very dedicated group of regulars here, and at times, it felt like they might get served or attended to slightly faster than new customers. It wasn’t a dealbreaker by any means, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re visiting for the first time. Aside from that, the team was attentive enough and made sure we had everything we needed for a great meal.

Atmosphere and Vibe
The restaurant has a classic, welcoming Japanese sushi bar feel. It’s a great place for a casual date, a family dinner, or even a solo meal at the bar where you can watch the chefs at work. Despite the hustle and bustle, it doesn’t feel overly rushed once you are actually seated. The prices are also quite fair given the high quality of the ingredients, providing great value for the experience.

Final Verdict: A Must-Visit for Sushi Lovers
I am giving Sushi Kazoku a full 5-star rating because the food quality is simply superb. While the service has its quirks regarding the local regulars, the actual meal was flawless. If you want great sushi in a friendly, high-energy environment, this is the place to go. Just remember to book your table in advance so you can jump straight into the experience!

From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped by an overwhelmingly powerful and welcoming environment. I couldn’t resist the temptation to indulge in their delectable food. Initially, I was skeptical, even though the restaurant was packed, which usually indicates exceptional culinary creations. However, I have a refined palate and am always cautious when trying new sushi, especially! I demand that everything be fresh and melt on my tongue, or I won’t be satisfied.

To my astonishment, their sushi surpassed all my expectations and became the best I’ve ever had in my life! I’ve traveled the world, sampling sushi in various places, but this place truly stands out. They exclusively serve real crab, no imitation nonsense here!

I highly recommend this local sushi restaurant. The staff was incredibly amazing, friendly, and helpful. Don’t miss their dessert; I believe it’s called MORSHO, but I can’t recall the exact name. Ask them about the two purple balls of amazingness!

The sushi was excellent. We ordered the four seasons, the spicy tuna, deep fried, and the papillon. It was a Friday around 6:30 p.m.. the atmosphere was a bit noisy and hectic because it was busy, but it’s really well designed inside. Very pleasant to look at.

We have been going to Sushi Kazoku for over a year now and have always been a fan of their amazing service and fresh quality sashimi. Now, they took over what used to be Rustic House Oyster and converted it to be a gorgeous sushi establishment. The decor and atmosphere was truly impressive and I’m so glad they found a new larger space that completely transforms their old location. This is one of our favorite sushi places to visit and are so excited for their new location!

We were fans of the original location on Laurel, and were surprised to see it move to the Old Rustic House spot. It’s much more spacious and the interior is nicely furnished, parking is easier, but the menu is the same. One of the reasons we like this place is the ramen and udon on the menu which is very kid friendly. The rice dishes are good, the rolls are good, the nigiri and sashimi are great, and the appetizer selection is also strong. So when we get a hankering for sushi, this is the first place that comes to mind in San Carlos.

My brother and I have had a system of ranking restaurants on a scale of 1-10 for years. Very rarely do we come across a true 10. This place was absolute perfection. The fish quality? incredible. Phenomenal, Fresh, large pieces. They do not skimp. But that is besides the point. The true star of the show is the RICE. The rice is perfectly fluffy and has that delicious rice vinegar flavor mixed in for perfect sushi rice. The chirashi almost had us licking the bowl, when we usually leave most the rice. The service was phenomenal and the server was so sweet. Quite a small restaurant and I could see how it could be really busy easily. I love this place and it needs more traction. This is a new favorite!!

Very enjoyable lunch experience. Much preferred over their previous location. Easy parking. Very professional staff, but only one waiter and one busser. Owner, please get them help, they did a fine job, but they were harried. We over-ordered as usual. The sashimi was fresh and a large portion. Wife loved her ramen and all of the nigiri and rolls we ordered. We’ll shall return.
