The service is super friendly and the ambience was clean and authentic. We enjoyed the omakase.

We were really impressed by how very accommodating the staff were to the two couples that came after us. They were both late.

We have seen other omakase places were the chef doesnt allow them to come but Sushi Ginza Onodera was very professional and courteous to all their patrons. One patron had to run back to their hotel room as they were allergic to fish. The staff offered to allow them to the join the next seating in the private room area or come back by 6pm.

The sushi was solid but didn’t blow me away compared to the other omakase restaurants available on island with the same or lesser price tag. We came here for my wife’s birthday which I noted on our open table reservation but no mention of the celebration which we have come to experience at other places.

I enjoyed the amaebi. My wife enjoyed the Spanish mackerel. I had the sake tasting but nothing really blew me away unfortunately just like the sushi. I really wanted to like the place more since my friend is a regular and raves about it.
I will say it was a nice touch that after the omakase chef explained the dish, a server would come with an iPad to show you the fish.

Heads up -They asked if we were from here and knew we wete local but we didnt know to ask for the kamaina discount which is 10%. It would have been nice if they would have just asked us for our ID when they knew we were Kamaina.

Came here for lunch over the weekend. The service felt like an educational experience as well, as the host showed us pictures of what the fish looked like with each course. All staff were friendly and accommodating. There are 4 designated spots for parking right beside the restaurant. The fish was fresh and tasty. Definitely worth the visit.

We did delivery, they have a limited menu on DoorDash. It was really delicious, exceeded my expectations! The wasabi was really premium, the chirashi bowl had lots of flavor and a good portion size, and the salmon is so creamy. We especially liked the tamago and roe. Wonderful flavors!

We had the $150 per person lunch omakase at Sushi Ginza Onodera, located at 808 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, and it was a delightful experience. The meal included 15 pieces of nigiri, chawanmushi, miso soup, a Japanese omelet, and dessert. Overall, it was excellent value for the price, and we left feeling quite full.

The fish was fresh, with excellent texture and a great variety. Highlights included geoduck, squid, uni, and sweet shrimp. Each piece was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, showcasing the quality of the ingredients.

The restaurant’s interior design is stunning and very photogenic, adding to the overall experience. The service was truly exceptional—every time a dish was served, the staff showed us pictures of the fish on an iPad, which added a fun and educational touch. Our chef was Japanese and spoke a little Chinese, and he made a wonderful effort to introduce the fish names in Chinese as he served each piece, which we really appreciated.

They also offer a drink menu with some standout options. The plum wine and yuzu beer were particularly enjoyable. I tried a highball with Japanese whisky, but I didn’t enjoy it as much—perhaps it would be better served on the rocks.

After finishing all the courses, you can order additional items, but we were so full we decided not to.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. While the food didn’t completely blow us away, it was solid, fresh, and enjoyable. Combined with the beautiful ambiance and top-notch service, it’s a great spot for a memorable omakase meal in Honolulu.

The restaurant was small and quaint, it only had about 7 seats at the sushi counter, which is about the entirety of the restaurant. The staff there are phenomenal and extremely nice. They really care about the service they provide, constantly cleaning your area, filling your drink, and even show you a picture of the fish for each piece.

The restaurant was omakase style, and you have the option to add a few more pieces to it at the end. They served about 15 pieces, along with two apps, and dessert. The sushi itself was overall good, 3-4 outstanding pieces, and the rest were good. Not a single piece was fishy, nor an undesirable texture. My only complaint is that the eel had small fish bones in it.

Overall, solid sushi place. As a side note, they refuse to accept tips, as traditionally it’s included in the price.

Awesome experience dining here for the lunch omakase. Great value for $150 (no tip) omakase. Total of around 15-16 courses. Highlights include the grouper, baby tuna, belt fish, and uni. The service was also impeccable, and the seating arrangement encouraged chit chat between the various parties. Would definitely visit again in the future!

This was the best meal I have had in my life. And I have been all over the world. The chef wassssss amazing. The staff was educating us. I did not know about rice polish percentage with Sake. They showed us pictures of every dish and the grains. They were all so kind. The food… the food!!!! PHENOMENAL SUSHI. I mean I hated uni. And I now love uni. The chef even gave us chopsticks to take home. Would definitely add the sake pairing, uni tasting and the crab and caviar!!! Hands down I could die tomorrow and be happy

My wife and I came here for her birthday and it was such an amazing experience from the sushi to the service. The atmosphere was very intimate and the chef was so intricately detailed when preparing each Nigiri. He even noticed my wife was left handed and preferred smaller bites and adjusted for her. Every Nigiri was subarashi but I really loved the ankimo temaki and the Kichiji (which they called Kinki). Oh and the tamago was nothing like we’ve ever had before, so soft with more complex flavors compared to regular tamago. Im looking forward to coming here again for next special occasion.

Today was supposed to be a celebration on New Year’s Eve, and we were looking forward to the dinner. However, upon entering, the entire restaurant was filled with the smell of the sewer, making it difficult to be happy. Despite being seated in a private room, we hoped the smell would be less intense, but it lingered throughout the entire dinner. Not wanting to ruin our long-awaited evening, we asked some incense hoping to mask the unpleasant odor, but it proved ineffective against the nauseating smell.

Moreover, the disappointment extended to the dishes; the ingredients were not as fresh as expected, resulting in an ordinary appearance. I had no inclination to photograph the dishes, and the taste was also very ordinary. Forget surprises; some dishes couldn’t even pass in my opinion. The hairy crab meat with egg custard was not enjoyable, and the overall quality of the sushi was disappointing. The rice was too firm, and some fish tasted excessively salty. I found satisfaction only in the sweet shrimp sushi, squid sushi, and anglerfish liver.

Considering the meal cost $350 per person, my expectations were high, but this disappointing experience ensures I won’t be returning. This restaurant truly ruined what could have been a delightful evening.

8/10 The best value omakase in Hawaii. For lunch, it cost only $150, makes each nigiri cost less than $10, which is cheaper than some ordinary sushi restaurants! And I had the best toro in my lifetime. Highly recommended.
