Honest to goodness the worst sushi I’ve ever had. And it’s not cheap. Run away. Food tasted spoiled, rice was stale. Who serves sushi with stale rice? That is the easiest thing to get right. If you do that, you immediately make the experience unpleasant. Moreover, the thought of eating raw fish from a place that serves bad rice is frightening. Nope.

Very pleasant way to kick off the weekend. I stopped by for lunch on Friday with my top tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality. I’m not THAT familiar with Westfield beyond a few random cameo appearances (one of which was to visit Whitney Houston’s grave), but I expect a certain level of bougieness when I’m here. Sushi&Asian IS definitely a little higher class than a lot of the sushi establishments you’ll find in a strip mall (in Westfield, even the strip malls are kind of gorgeous), with a darker, urban interior. There was a mesmerizing piece of art on the lefthand wall that depicted a female samurai balancing sushi rolls on a sword that I couldn’t take my eyes of. We were seated and attended to promptly – given that we were literally next to the front window, there’s an argument it was a little TOO dark in there, especially for lunchtime. Minor quibble, if that. Anyway.

Even for a sushi place, the menu is really extensive here – even if you’re not a raw fish enthusiast, there’s a lot of different directions to go. We split the Rock Shrimp app, which was a nice surprise. It’s not unusual for restaurants to overly fry this dish, but this was perfectly done – crisp but not overwhelmingly so. A nice mango flavor to it, which is one of my favorite seafood accompaniments (and something I often request in sushi rolls). For my entree, I went with a salmon/avocado roll and an edgy special roll, Beauty and the Beast, featuring a myriad of fish – spicy tuna, spicy salmon, “regular” tuna and salmon, along with yellowtail. Very tasty, and I liked that the special roll was significantly larger than the normal/classic roll, which isn’t always the case. The fish was very fresh, and the special roll had a nice taste profile – lot of different players on the palate.

My chum prides herself on often getting “real” sushi when we go to places like this and opted for the a bowl of sashimi. If she didn’t like it, I certainly would have heard about it during the meal and for a considerable period of time thereafter. The presentation on that was interesting – it’s hard to see in the accompanying picture, but there was a boat underneath the fish, which I think are usually reserved for gigantic parties but I like that they have single serving options available here. Nice touch.

It’s honestly unusual for me to have a service issue at a sushi restaurant (which makes me think it’s tied to culture), and this was no exception. We were a LITTLE on the clock for a quiet work from home Friday so any delays would have been more noticeable than usual but it was well paced from beginning to end. Our waitress was attentive and stopped by regularly. After side-eyeing a scrumptious looking deep fried ice cream dish at a nearby table I wish we’d had a little more time to play with, but alas. The curse of adulting.

Definitely worth another visit though I’d recommend avoiding the downtown Westfield traffic situation if we can. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that that artistic masterpiece on the wall ends up at an upcoming townwide yard sale.

I have eaten here twice and I traveled through this area and the food never disappoints. I LOVE their special maki rolls. Last night they were very busy but the wait staff was very attentive. She found us a spot at the sushi bar, made sure we were comfortable and then soon offered to seat us at a table. The mango salad appetizer is also fresh, spicy and delicious. I have eaten many special maki rolls but can never remember which ones but they are all amazingly good! Last night we tried the Pad Thai and again, wonderful.

Love the beautiful decor, very modern and chic. For drinks we had a ginger ale and a hot tea, if I would have know it’s was BYOB I would have brought a bottle, maybe next time! We started with the misu soup, mango salad (amazing) and the crazy Friday roll which was great, shrimp tempura and spicy lobster topped with avocado and roe , what else are you going to ask for! Then for entree we split the whole fried red snapper, it was very weird, fried like in tempura and the flavor was really strong, did not enjoy the fish but the fried rice was amazing. For dessert we had the chocolate cate with ice cream, wish the cake was hotter and fresher then what it was but that’s okay, we also had the fried ice cream tempura and they were very skimpy with the ice cream. Thank God I order two desserts. Emily was our server and she was great, I believe the manager also came and checked in on us, made us feel very special!

I’m giving this place a 4 for now, but it’ll probably go up to a 5. My first taste of their sushi proved not quite as good as Nagoya in Westfield before they changed ownership, but better than anywhere else in the area. Their sushi is excellent. Their Sushi Pizza is unique & delicious. I was told they can customize sushi rolls which has gotten me incredibly excited & optimistic about this place. The atmosphere is pleasant. The staff is super nice. And the presentation is beautiful!

I have been coming to this place since it opened. I order their food once a week and NEVER had anything but wonderful meals from them. I mostly go for the raw sushi. Staff is so warm and friendly! The food is fresh and always top quality!!!!! I will be ordering tomorrow!!!

There were times I couldn’t order what I wanted because the chef will only work with the highest quality fish and I take that as the ultimate compliment to their customers.

Sushi is seriously stunning here!

Great place! From the minute we walked in, we felt welcome. Staff super friendly and kind. Ambiance is fresh and warm. Food is amazing! Probably the freshest Chinese I’ve had ever! Our kids dined with us as well (5 & 12) and just kept saying how good everything was….the 5 yo is picky, the 12 yo is a foodie! We are so glad we gave this new place a try; can’t wait to go back!

I was in the mood for Japanese food so tried this spot. When I arrived I parked in their parking lot in the plaza. When I walked in the waiter sat me in one if the back booths. I liked the ambiance and the music they played. For dinner I ordered the vegetable gyoza, spring rolls, miso soup and vegetable udon. I liked the vegetable gyoza and spring rolls. The miso soup was ok and I didn’t care for the vegetable udon because it had a funny taste to it. The bill was about $30 altogether which wasn’t bad. All in all I had a decent experience.
