Surin West never disappoints! The coconut soup was absolutely delicious—rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The barbeque chicken was cooked to perfection, tender and perfectly seasoned. I always love coming to Surin West and will definitely be back again!

Surin West in Birmingham, AL, offers an excellent dining experience with flavorful Thai cuisine and fresh sushi. The atmosphere is modern yet inviting, making it a great spot for both casual dining and special occasions.
I started with the crispy squid as an appetizer, and it was perfectly fried—light, crunchy, and paired with a tasty dipping sauce. For my main course, I had the sweet and sour chicken, which was well-balanced with a delicious mix of tangy and savory flavors. The fried rice on the side was flavorful and cooked just right, complementing the meal perfectly.
Service was friendly and efficient, and the portion sizes were generous for the price. Whether you’re craving Thai food or sushi, Surin West is definitely worth a visit for a satisfying and flavorful meal!

I’ve been going to Surin West since I was at the University of Montevallo in the late 90’s! It has always been a favorite. I introduced my husband to it a few years ago and today, we brought our 8yr old son for the first time! Our waitress, Billie, was ama,ing and gave great suggestions about sushi, kid’s favorites, and answering all of our questions. Our son loved his sushi, sharing crab angels, and the coconut soup. Thank you, Billie and Surin West for a great and delicious experience!!

Good place, even if we did go with 30 minutes left before dinner service. But they were very accommodating, I’m the fact that they still seated us and were very professional. The food is really good as well The appetizers of dim sum, and the surin baskets ( incredible flavor, definitely should try these) were outstanding. The pad Thai in my opinion could have used more savory It tasted a little sweet even if it was the spiciest level you could which is three. The spicy beef noodles though with shrimp were mighty tasty. Overall really good experience would give them a try again.

I’ve been eating here since they opened, which was decades ago. They have a large selection of options–including a wide variety of sushi and sashimi (yes, a little odd for a Thai restaurant, but it’s actually quite good). Are there better Thai places in the Birmingham Metro Area? Sure. But for consistently good food, Surin is a go-to if you live in the city.

Just “okay” to me…having spent 20 yrs in Asia eating Thai food galore. Pros: service attentive, well-dressed, charismatic; prices decent, location good, atmosphere large swanky open bar type lounge feel. Cons: food lackluster in spice and presentation somewhat sloppy. Larb Gai should be finer chopped and w/ more chilies lettuce leaf works better than a chunk of cabbage. Pad See Ew (“drunken noodles”) decent but tofu cubes need to be much smaller. Lots of room for improvement here.

Wonderful place to eat, the atmosphere was nice, the server was really friendly, and the food was delicious!! As a person with food allergies, I’ve always had a hard time eating at Thai places, and I usually am told that something is safe, even though it isn’t, but this place was super nice, I was able to choose what I wanted and discuss my allergies, and was served quickly, the food was amazing, safe, and overall a great experience!!

Delicious authentic flavors.
The pork dish we ordered was fantastic! It came with real Thai sticky rice which I’ve realized is hard to find in this town at various “Thai” restaurants.
The coconut soup was creamy and slightly spicy. We liked it better than the hot and sour shrimp soup.
We ordered 6pcs of Sriracha hamachi sushi that were delicious as well.
The only reason they lost a star is it took 10 minutes for our server to greet us and take our drink order. Then throughout the meal didn’t refill our drinks until we specifically asked after being out for several minutes.
Overall, a delicious meal with deep satisfying flavors and a beautiful atmosphere. The waiter seemed inexperienced but had a happy disposition. Give them a try!! I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Had a party of 5, 3 of the 5 had never had Thai food. I ordered the dim sum (very good), pot stickers (very good), spicy beef salad(not so good, I’ve had better). 2 orders of Pineapple fried rice (I have it before but would not recommended getting here, very salty), chicken fried rice , shrimp fried rice (both of the rice dishes were dry), and the spicy basil chicken (this is my go to dish, I wasn’t impressed at all, not enough basil in the dish). I’ve been to many Thai restaurants before, I would not recommend this place.
