The highlight of our trip this year! Tucked away, with a beautiful view of the marina. Food was amazing and our server was the friendliest we’ve had in all the years we’ve been coming to the beach for our family vacation. Very chill vibe and a perfect place to unwind after a day in the ocean. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I really loved this restaurant, for the food, service, and views – food was very flavorful and a great range of side items to choose from. I went mid-week with no real dinner rush at the time so the meal was a great and relaxing experience

A real local’s secret! This is our favorite lunch restaurant- only open from April to Labor Day leaving locals so sad in the fall & winter!
Our server today was Alyssa- she was so accommodating. Always checking in to see if there was anything we needed: The fresh seafood here is amazing! This Surf Rider can be hard to find but well worth it!

Surf Rider is definitely one of the local favorites in Virginia Beach, and for good reason. They serve fresh caught seafood, and everything tastes like it just came straight from the water.

It’s a great place to grab drinks, relax, and enjoy some of the best local cuisine around. The views are beautiful, especially if you’re sitting outside perfect coastal vibes.

If you’re visiting Virginia Beach, this place is a must-go. Fresh seafood, great atmosphere, and a true local staple.

We did get our hot tea,had to ask several times for more hot water. The Caesar salads dressing tasted different. The Alfredo was very bland and had no flavor, the flounder was blackened and dry. The tots were like warm. The tarter sauce tasted like it was made with salad dressing not mayonnaise. Service not so hot. They were out of steak bites, for lunch after church. Last time going there. Thinking the only plus was the music. James Taylor and slow rock type.

We had a party of (14). Devon did a wonderful job…didn’t skip a beat. The famous Run Runner was delicious, oysters were surprisingly small, the crab cakes were expensive but didn’t disappoint. Overall, the food was delicious but, kind of bland.

Surf Rider is a local gem for fresh seafood and a relaxed, coastal vibe. The oysters are always top-notch, the crab cakes are some of the best around, and you can tell the seafood is fresh and prepared with care. The menu has a great balance—classic seafood dishes alongside casual favorites—so there’s something for everyone.

The service is friendly and attentive without being pushy, and the atmosphere feels like a true neighborhood spot: laid-back, comfortable, and welcoming. Prices are fair for the quality, and the portions never leave you hungry.

If you’re craving seafood done right in a casual, no-frills setting, Surf Rider is a must.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was our second time visiting (our first was last June), and once again the experience was absolutely amazing! The seafood is super fresh and flavorful, and there are even some tasty options for those in our family who don’t care for seafood.

Our waitress today, Cassie, was wonderful—attentive, kind, and so patient with my son, making sure his sweet tea was always full (and trust me, she refilled it at least 10 times without hesitation!). She even handled a food replacement with such a great attitude, which we really appreciated.

What touched us most, though, was seeing Alex again, who had been our server last year. She actually remembered us and came right over to say hello and check in on how we were doing. That kind of genuine care and connection is rare and made us feel so welcomed back.

We left with full bellies and full hearts. We’ll definitely keep coming back whenever we’re in the area!

The location in va beach off Wesleyan has moved to Providence Square and the location is nice and the food is still good. However, I have never paid $20 for 1 crab cake. I ordered the shrimp dinner but wanted a crab cake and I figured it would be an up charge but I definitely didn’t think it would be that much. The crab cake dinner which comes with 2 sides is $21.99 and the crab cake by itself is 19.49. To me that feels like a rip off. How is the dinner just $2 more than the crab cake? I will take the blame on this because I should have looked at the menu prior to asking for the add-on but I would’ve never thought $20 for one. The waiter was polite when I asked her about it but I could definitely tell she really didn’t want to entertain my questions she answered but it definitely wasn’t the level of service and attentiveness I am accustomed to. I understand you are busy but its about how a customer walks away feeling. It would have taken her all of less than 1 minute to stop and answer my questions. I also think that it would have been helpful if she let me know when I inquired about the crab cake that the dinner was just $2 more but again, the food was good. I will absolutely stick with my normal waiter if I return. Also, I wasn’t told what the $5 charge was for but after my waiter didn’t stop to speak with me regarding my intitial questions, I didn’t want to anger myself so I just let it go and chalked it up. I rate a 3 star for the pricing and lack in customer service. I’ve been to this restaurant for years and have never walked away feeling like I felt today.

I ordered crab cake meal with roasted red potatoes, and broccoli salad. I was served crab cake with ranch dressing instead of tartar sauce, when I told the waitress she brought me a yellow sauce instead. I got collards instead of broccoli salad and baked potato instead of roasted red potatoes. All in all it was the worse meal I ve ever had at any surf rider.
