Highlight of our trip to Maine! This place was phenomenal. The food was out of this world. And I appreciated that there were plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options. The cocktails were all unique and so delicious.. not your average cocktail menu! The atmosphere and service were warm, welcoming and attentive. (Thank you to our server, Max!) Overall, just amazing.

Came back one more time! This time restaurant week was going on so we started with the kale salad and Maine crab, moved on to mushroom risotto and short rib, then the granita and parsnip cake for dessert. We were too full to add the optional lobster popover (which is my favorite dish on their regular menu and must have). It’s always a great experience at Sur Lie.

We had a awesome experience here for my wife’s birthday! Very nice atmosphere, great for a date night or out with friends. Excellent service- servers/staff were all incredibly friendly and chill. Happy hour even on the weekends! The cocktails were all very good. The food was on point- the popover and beef dishes were two favorites. Only two knocks were maybe that the next dish almost seemed to come out a little too fast (not necessarily a bad thing, but too fast for us), and a couple of the dishes had a little too much bitterness going on for our taste (the gnocchi and the compote with the cheesecake). But Sur Lie should be at the top of your list for places to try in Portland, especially if you like the tapas format!

The setting was nice. Very pretty interior design and lighting. Most of the dishes had very interesting flavors. However, some of the food was overly salted. The lobster popover was disappointing in the ratio of lobster to puff pastry …. The biggest downside is that the plate is just barely large enough to be a whole meal, but it should. I’m not sure the tapas really works when you’re mixing such heavy meals like the ribs, pork, chicken and fish. It works better for the vegetable dishes. Personally i would have like to have chosen just one appetizer and one main course and then shared with my friends if we wanted to.

We had a family celebration (college graduation) at Sur Lie, and the entire staff could not have been more courteous to our large group. Krista had amazing patience with me as we arranged the evening in advance, accommodating any requests we had. On the evening we were there, everyone – servers, bartender, chefs, etc all were helpful and friendly!

Scrumptious food, good atmosphere and attentive service. Perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal- but avoid if you’re looking for a quick bite- for one it’s pretty pricey and secondly the food comes out tapas Spanish style which is served at a very relaxed pace. Crab dip and lobster popover were our favs.

Did the 4 course chef tasting, in my opinion (working at a tapas style restaurant myself) wasn’t worth it. Although what was sent out was good, our first course was a small salad to share.. and dessert was shared as well.. So our 4 course chef tasting was really a combination of 6 plates that was cheaper to order a la carte. The wine pairing was a bit comical as well..
