It was simply…OK. This is my first time at this establishment and I probably won’t be back. I ordered a small oxtail that automatically came with a ton of rice and peas (that were sweet and somewhat dry…stingy with the gravy which was also sweet) and cabbage (which was the most delicious part of the meal). I ordered some mac and cheese as well and that was bland and greasy. The oxtails were tender though. The flavors weren’t giving that authentic Jamaican.

Best (and most authentic tasting) Jamaican food I’ve had in the “757” in a looong time and OMG!! FINALLY a place that does NOT use minute rice to make its rice & peas!!! I’ve been going down the menu sampling everything they sell, and so far everything I’ve tried is on point. Will definitely keep going back.

Last weekend my wife and I went on a date and stopped in on this hidden gem called Sunsplash Caribbean restaurant LLC located at 52 W Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23669. Unfortunately, YELP has not updated its data base for this location. Based on the portions show below, recommend their spicy beef Pattie’s. In addition we also ordered their jerk chicken and snapper meals that came with cabbage and beans and rice. The snapper was at least 1 inch thick.We we’re amazed and excited to see the portion sizes which were plentiful for anyone wanting a mouth watering meal that also remembers me of a great home cooked meal. You will not be disappointed. Check out the yellow and green restaurant near the the Atomic Comics Emporium.

I had a taste for something different, other than my usual Chinese food…, I stopped by here, my first visit. When I walked in I was greeted & then I started looking at a menu on the wall. There was what sounded like a personal conversation going on at the counter between a worker & a customer who was wearing army fatigues. I asked the other worker (an older woman), what was the difference between curry & jerk. I think I stomped her, because she gave an almost nonsensical response, she said something like she might would like it but maybe I wouldn’t because we have different tastes. Um, I was asking for some descriptive adjectives!! I didn’t think that the question that I asked was that difficult!! She then turns her attention to the conversation going on between the other worker & the customer. She literally turned her face to look at them! I’m standing there ready to put my order in!, I felt disrespected!! First she didn’t give a suitable response about food that she should have an expertise about!, but then you ignore the customer just to be nosey!!, so I turned around and walked towards the door and I think I heard her ask something about are you going to get so and so and I just kept it moving! About 15 minutes later, I called her and she just so happened was the woman that was rude and I told her I didn’t appreciate that she was preoccupied while I was standing there and she told me she was listening, but how can you listen to someone and you’re not looking at them? It also seems like she tried to over talk me on the phone.. So anyway, I went straight to the Chinese restaurant! I mean they are not going to play around!!, they’re going to get your money!! Needless to say, our people need to get it together!!!! I will not be returning to sunsplash!! There are a couple of other Jamaican restaurants in the area that I’m aware of,, so I will be checking those places out.

Not a lot on the menu but what we had was DELICIOUS. My husband got the oxtail dinner and I got a spicy jerk chicken. Both were very good! I don’t even like cabbage and their cabbage was really good. Definitely recommend.

I should have taken the drive out to my usual Jamaican food restaurant, but I wanted to go somewhere closer to my home. I am beyond upset and disappointed. This restaurant is ripping people off! Today was my first time visiting Sunsplash and I will not be returning. I paid $50 total for 2 large dinner meals. The photos are of my meal (but trust me, the other plate’s portion sizes look the same as this). I paid $22 for LITERALLY RICE AND A PLAIN BOILED SWEET POTATO! There were 5 small oxtail pieces, a scoop of cabbage, and a surplus of the cheapest thing of all RICE!!! Please don’t waste your money here. MPs in Newport News and the spot near HU will give you more than your money’s worth.

Goat was good but portions were small, peeved because they charged me extra for what I thought would be real jamaican yams and provisions, instead I got SWEET POTATO. I honestly feel scammed :-(. Other order = a few pieces of goat and a TON of rice. Don’t mind paying $17 for food but would expect my money’s worth! Tried to call about this error with the yam but phone didn’t work. Not going back to RIP OFF CARIBBEAN.
