We came in as a large group (after a bike ride on the Great Northern Trail). Our server, Ellie, took care of our group with no problem! Thank you! Good honest food without a lot of hoopla! Broasted chicken was really good!

On Saturday, we ordered a takeout order of broasted chicken. It was our first visit to the Sunshine Depot, but won’t be the last. The chicken was perfectly broasted (not too oily) and it was very good. The bartender had taken my order by phone and told me to check in with her when I arrived. After getting to the location, I found a fairly packed place with a good vibe. I walked up the bar and the lady bartender asked if I was there to pickup a takeout chicken order. It takes 30 minutes to prepare, and it was ready when we arrived to pick it up. Great service and great food! We will be back!

I will come back. This restaurant is a great place to come watch the game and have some food with your friends – which is exactly what I did. The waitress was prompt, attentive and topped our drinks off. What I enjoyed was so off that menu tip. Our waitress came over and said I know it sounds weird to try the cheese curd with some warm caramel. Sure enough it was good.

Sunshine Depot is just one of those places that always hits the spot. The vibe is laid-back, the people are friendly, and you can count on a good time every time you stop in. The bartenders and servers are awesome—super quick, always smiling, and they make you feel like part of the regular crowd right away.
The food? Always solid. Everything comes out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. Whether it’s burgers, wings, or whatever’s on special that day, you really can’t go wrong. And the beer—always ice cold. They definitely know how to pour one right.
What I really love, though, is how they support our local veterans, especially the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5518. You can tell they genuinely care about the community and the people who’ve served.
Overall, Sunshine Depot’s the kind of place you go to unwind, grab a bite, and hang out with good folks. It’s got that small-town, everyone-knows-your-name feel that’s getting harder to find these days. Definitely one of my favorite stops in Elk River.

Let me start off by saying this place still gets a 10/10!
I order a Mac and cheese burger, drive 20 minutes home to open it and find no Mac and cheese(mistakes happen). Called and spoke to Ellie(?) the manager and she was ON TOP of making sure it was corrected. Gave me multiple options and explained how sorry she was, especially since it’s a 35-40 minute round trip. I was excited for my Mac and cheese burger and made the choice to have it corrected vs a refund etc. Drove back and got a fresh burger as well as Ellie offered me an appetizer for the inconvenience.
This is my first experience with Sunshine Depot and despite the mix up, will definitely be going back because they offered some of the best customer service I have gotten from a restaurant and should be recognized.
And the burger was delicious, I’m glad I chose to still get the food!

If you want “fancy like dat” this is not the place for you. This is a great old style neighborhood bar and grill.
My hubs and I actually had the same meal, that usually never happens. Had the walleye sandwich with onion rings. The fish was very good and not over done like in so many bar restaurants. The hoagie bun was not too much bread as to overpower the walleye. Lettuce, tomato and the put tartar sauce packages (2) on the side. Excellent. Hubs ate all of his and I needed to bring half home because they do give you a pretty good size serving of onion rings (small upcharge for the rings).
Service was great and they had quite a lot of staff there so servers were spot on and very attentive. First time there and we will go back. I’ve heard some good things about their pizza and boasted chicken so I might try that next time.

What we lacked in bloody Mary’s, we received in cheese bread. Unfortunately, we went for bloodys.
We called ahead to confirm they had the elaborate bloody Mary’s being raved about online. They confirmed. We arrived, and they said they only had standard bloodys, despite what we were told on the phone. We chose this place over a few other options due to proximity to our house, positive online reviews & the super cute location.
Overall, it was a perfectly fine place, but we left disappointed as we had been planning on getting these bloodys for days prior and feel like we ended up missing out on an experience we could’ve had elsewhere.
Can’t say we’ll never go back, but probably won’t go out of our way to end up there in the future.
