From walking in and noticing right away a server had time to play on their phone. I knew I was doomed. Mexican being my favorite of all foods I’m very disappointed in my entire experience. The food was bland for being Mexican. I ordered enchilada Rojas with steak quesadillas and beef empanadas with GREASE sauce. Not sure what that sauce was but it was straight grease. The enchiladas had zero sauce really dry, the empanadas were mushy with no meat to speak of. Don’t even get me started on the non-fresh hard rice they serve. Margaritas were an insult to margaritas. The last but most crazy item. My server lost my Credit Card and tried to tell me we need to check the tapes to see what happened to it. So as if the food wasn’t bad enough you lost my credit card. Thank god my wife found it moments later somewhere on the floor. I want to add the place was also pretty EMPTY. Attention to all these details should have been spot on. Skip this place if you’re looking for true Mexican. If you want cheap tacos and bad decor mixed with even worse service then this is your dump. Enjoy at your own risk. TRASH and definitely not Bussin!

Are you for real? A “kitchen appreciation fee”?! I have literally never, ever seen something like this. We double checked the menu and it did not say that we would be charged a fee for the kitchen to do what they’re paid to do. If you can’t pay your kitchen staff and pass on your own responsibilities to customers in the form of hidden fees, then don’t run a restaurant. I’d rather have slightly higher, but transparent prices for food rather than sneaky and absurd fees added to the check. Food was mediocre. About what you’d expect for a Mexican joint catering to college kids and show goers. I will say that they did a great job of knowing their audience. They had Disney songs playing after the Disney on ice show and their service and food/drink delivery was so fast, which is key when you’ve got young kids. I would have given more stars if it weren’t for the super shady and sneaky fees.

The straws!! This restaurant gives out water with straws as if they’re ice… As if there isn’t a devastating environmental impact for using straws. I understand straws in a tall glass of Diet Coke with a lot of ice… But a regular cup of water where a person could literally pick up and drink it from the rim? Isn’t that why cups were invented? It is sickening to think that thousands of straws per month are being dumped into a landfill or an ocean all because this one establishment doesn’t understand waste. Definitely won’t be coming back and would advise others to boycott. Climate changes an issue for all of us. I would prefer that my children not grow up in a world where the air, land, and water are being polluted by our mindless wastefulness. I still can’t wrap my head around why a single cup of water with no ice that was designed for drinking needs a straw. PS I have attached photos of how unbelievably irresponsible this is.

The restaurant was fairly busy before a hockey game so had to order and pay for drinks and food at the bar. The bartender was a bit rude to my friend when she enquired about a drink. My friend received her food pretty quickly, and she said it was good, but I never received my food despite following up with the waitress three times. The food is a little overpriced as well.

Oct 2024:
Not bad overall. I enjoyed the dips—they grew on me—but the guacamole with warm chips was pretty good. The shrimp had great flavor, though the rice could have used more depth and seasoning.

**Sunset Cantina Review**
**Location & Vibe:** Tucked away on Commonwealth Ave, Sunset Cantina promises an experience that’s vibrant with a casual, sports-bar atmosphere. Known for its history as a gathering spot for BU students, my boyfriend and I ventured there hoping to relive some fond memories of nacho-filled evenings. The ambiance is laid-back, perfect for a lively game night.
**Drinks:** The bar at Sunset Cantina remains its stronghold. With a robust selection of cocktails and beers, the drinks are crafted to kickstart any gathering. We found the cocktails to be particularly well-mixed, adding a refreshing twist to our afternoon. ✨
**Starters – Chips & Queso Dip:** Our meal started on a shaky note with the chips, which were unfortunately stale, detracting from the overall enjoyment. However, the queso dip provided a slight redemption with its intriguing mix of grilled corn salsa and a dash of tajin, offering a zesty flavor that partially made up for the lackluster chips. Rating: 4/10
**Main Attraction – Beef Empanadas:** The highlight of our dining experience came in the form of their beef empanadas. Filled with tender, slow-cooked shredded beef and creamy Monterey Jack cheese, these empanadas were flavorful and cooked to a delightful finish, standing out as the most memorable dish of our visit. Rating: 7/10
**Salads – A Healthy Twist:** We sampled the Mexican Caesar and steak & avocado salads, aiming for something on the lighter side. While both salads were generous in portion, featuring a decent amount of meat, they lacked a certain flair and were generally average, failing to impress beyond their wholesome presentation. Rating: 5/10
**Birria Tacos – A Missed Opportunity:** As a fan of birria tacos, I was eager to dive into this dish, but it fell short of expectations. The tacos lacked the rich, deep flavor typical of birria, and the meat was scant, leading to an unbalanced bite where the taco shell overshadowed the filling. Rating: 4/10
**Overall Experience:**
While the drinks lived up to the festive spirit of the place, the food struggled to match up, delivering a mixed bag of hits and misses. The setting and price point make it a reasonable choice for casual dining, especially if you’re in the area to watch a sports event and enjoy some drinks.
**Final Scores:**
– **Food:** 5/10
– **Affordability:** 7/10
– **Ambiance:** 5/10
Hoping my feedback is seen as constructive. I love capturing and sharing food experiences and always root for places to thrive. If you’re looking to watch a sports game with a good drink this might still be your spot!

I’m really disappointed. I walked all the way from my house to Sunset Katina because Google listed that you were open at 12 PM. When I arrived, the restaurant was closed. There was also another family outside who were equally confused and upset.
I then checked Instagram and saw that you actually open at 5 PM. Not everyone has Instagram, and many people rely on Google for accurate business hours. There was also no sign on the door explaining the correct opening time.
Please make sure your hours are updated on Google, not just Instagram, or at least post a clear sign on the door. It’s unfair to customers who take time out of their day and travel based on incorrect information.

I didn’t listen to the other one star reviews on here, so if you’re reading this, please listen to us.
50 mins we waited on a Tuesday. Never saw our server. We placed an order with the hostess but it never quite made it to the kitchen. Drinks never came either.
Just do yourself a favor and go elsewhere if you actually want to eat and drink.

from the moment we sat down at our table this place was a disaster. the waiter had an extremely poor attitude and when asked about the margarita specials for cinco de mayo he had a major tude just because we wanted to know if we could get a flavored margarita. it was clear from the beginning he clearly did not enjoy us despite the fact we literally were just like any other table and minded our own business? to start we ordered the dip trio which includes guacamole, queso, and salsa. first of all, the salsa genuinely tasted like watered down tomato sauce. second of all, I took a chip with some guacamole and once i started to chew I felt a weird texture. Fast forward two seconds as I proceed to pull a long strand of hair out of my mouth that was inside of our guacamole. This was about 30 minutes into our time at Sunset and the waiter had absolutely disappeared at this point. When he finally came around (only because I made eye contact), I told him about the hair and he didn’t even fully react almost like he wasn’t shocked. He then asked me if I told anyone as if he wasn’t our waiter and I was expected to hunt down another staff member to report this. The food itself was extremely disappointing and so overpriced. The birria quesadilla lacked flavor and was genuinely an offense to what birria is supposed to taste like. When we asked for chips because the tables ran out we were charged for that??????? I understand we’re in a tough economic situation but charging for more table chips when you’re a literal mexican restaurant is absurd. Fast forward to the end, we order churros which were actually so small and should not have cost $10. Additionally, it came with vanilla icecream which was served in a to go condiment container…… This was actually the cheapest serving of icecream to top churros I’ve ever seen in my entire life and not even the dollar store would do that to me. Overall, this place is extremely overprice, food is lacking in quality for what they charge, and Andres (I understand you might be a student) but this clearly is not the job for you if you cannot handle people.
