A small unassuming restaurant with home style cooking. Solid sushi with heart warming dishes. The Okinawa soba is a little gingery but it was great. Consider reserving though given the small size, which I think you have to call.

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend of mine, who told me it is a nice, quaint family-run Okinawan restaurant. This establishment did not disappoint. The female partner of the couple who owns the restaurant was very kind to my family and me. I appreciated the atmosphere of this place too. It was a great interdiction to Okinawan food. Aloha!

We ordered the Pork Bitter Melon, Big Feet Soup, Sushi Combo, and Yaki Soba — everything was delicious! What stood out the most, was the warm hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly kind and welcoming. I accidentally left my purse behind, and they kindly kept it safe for me. It’s a small, cozy restaurant with a lot of heart. Highly recommend!

Exactly as charming as all the other reviews state! The atmosphere is so nostalgic, the food is really great, and it’s a really cozy spot that I could see myself going to semi-regularly. Everything was delicious, but we especially enjoyed the dynamite salmon (we re-ordered another portion cuz the first was gobbled up so fast), the fresh sushi, the bitter melon stir fry and the hamachi collar 🙂

This place is great! We’re visiting from Virginia and decided we wanted sushi. This place had good reviews and I see why! My boyfriend and I shared the sushi and soup which was just enough to share and we went hiking earlier, so the portion sizes were good. The price was amazing. I forgot to take a picture of the sushi before we dived in, but the yellow piece of sushi (not sure what it was) but that was my favorite! Very impressed.

All I can say is wow
Would have loved to find this hidden gem earlier in our stay, we had the nigiri sushi combo, grilled mackerel, miso/pickle/rice, and the spare rib soup. All were delicious and amazing overall. The sushi was fantastic, best miso soup ever, spare rib soup was mind blowing, the meat was so tender it was incredible!!! The mackerel was cooked to perfection. Absolutely amazing all around.
Highly recommend in every category.

I think this place is mostly good if you’re nostalgic for Okinawan food. When I was there, most of the other patrons were old aunties. Tried the shoyu pork, soba, and dynamite salmon. They were all ok, but what struck me was the small size of the portions. I was still hungry when I left.
Reservations are recommended since the place is small. Parking is also tight, you might need to street park a block away.

Ever since a friend took me to the Sunrise Restaurant a month ago, I’ve dined here 3 times. I am so addicted to the pan fried okinawa soba. The first time I had the noodle, I was like “omg, it tastes soooooo good!.” Unlike the regular round think noodle, okinawan soba is thicker, chewier, and more texture.
And the soup is a must-have too. Very flavorful. It reminds me of home. It tastes like the soup my mom makes.
And I noticed the pickled pepper from okinawa. Tastes interesting.

Authentic Okinawa food. Which is not quite the same is mainland Japanese food. Visits a few times for different items. Pork feet soup is a must. Okinawa soba is great. Bitter melon (goya) champuru is great as well. Fried squid is good for beer. Grilled salmon is good.
Restaurant is small and they can get super busy. Definitively secure a spot with reservation.
BYOB without corkage fee- alcoholic beverage from seven eleven next door gas station or Okinawa beer (Orion) from mitsuwa market at Waikiki. Seen locals with red wine, sake, local beer and etc.
