Jon the farmer had the best energy. He tried selling us a goat. Later i found out he was a patriot fan, being a BRONCOS fan TOM BRADY IS THE GOAT. Sam is the sweetest guy who works at Sunpies! He helps out with anything you need as quick as possible 😉

Some bartenders pour drinks. This one pours personality. Rocking a Miami button-down like he owns the whole scene, Sam and Jon mix cocktails with confidence, charm, and just the right splash of swagger. The drinks were balanced, the energy unmatched, and the charisma? Top shelf. If you come for one round, expect to stay for three.

The place to go! Ask for Sam! The best bartender around. He can do a handstand for 12 seconds while serving your drink. Amazing wish I could give more than 5 stars

Couldn’t decide where to eat on an overnight visit to Steamboat. Had to have been fate cuz this was what I was looking for. Food was crispy and came out quick! Crowded yet comfy; quiet and a raucous. So grateful to have stopped in.

If you find yourself in Steamboat Springs and wander into Sunpies Bistro, do yourself a favor and locate the bartender Sam. preferably before he spots you first. Sam has the speed of a caffeinated hummingbird and the sarcasm of a man who’s got everything to lose.

Then there’s Jon Dean, I ordered a drink and before I could even finish pronouncing the second syllable, Jon had it mixed, garnished, and was already chirping the guy next to me for ordering water on the rocks, no salt.

At one point I asked what they recommended and they just squinted at me as if evaluating my soul’s credit score, then handed me something delicious and strong enough to make me briefly forget my middle name. Five stars.

Sunpies itself is great, but let’s be clear the bartenders are the show. The drinks are good, the vibe is chill, and Sam tells stories so long you’ll forget where you came from. But oddly enough remember where you’re going.

Overall: 10/10 they do not accept Marriott bonvoy rewards.

This was the best find! Georgie behind the bar is the greatest and mixes awesome hurricanes. This little “locals” bar has a fabulous view of the Yampa River with lots of outside seating right along the river edge. Very laid back, chill establishment with excellent food as well. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was fabulous with shaved beef and just the right amount of seasoning. We also had a muffalata that was cooked perfectly with thin sliced ham. The daily special was Mahi fish tacos that were also excellent. Definitely recommend for afternoon lunch outside along the river!!

Total dive bar. When you’re in the right mood, this place can be fun but don’t expect anything special. Everything is mediocre, especially the service. Specifically, there’s a strange older female bartender who works in the outdoor bar in summer who always calls me “MA’AM. I’m a GUY (a CIS male, not that it matters) with longish hair. The last straw was August 2025; as I was leaving the patio with my wife (a CIS female, not that it matters) after having lunch, she looked up at us and loudly said, “Goodbye, LADIES”. I’m not sure if this woman needs glasses, is being sarcastic, or doing it on purpose as some sort of sick form of gaslighting. I took off another star because this has now happened at least 4 times over the past few years. Pro-tip as a former customer service employee: If you’re not sure how to address someone, just use a gender-neutral term like, “Hello, Folks”, “How are WE all doing today?”, “Hi EVERYBODY, what can I get you?”, or even Howdy, Y’ALL”. Or drop the directed pronouns completely as in, “Hello, welcome to Sunpies, how may I be of service?” It’s not that hard, PEOPLE!
