I have always looked for biscuits and sausage gravy and got excited to see their gravy is made in house. I was feeling the eggs Benedict though. Then I saw a Southern Benedict on the menu made with biscuits, sausage patties, poached eggs, and sausage gravy with a side of homefries and I had to go with that.
First off, the poached eggs was cooked perfectly, and the combination of the biscuits, sausage patty, eggs, and gravy was a pleasant surprise. Gravy was way better than the premade/canned sausage gravy most places have gone with. The Homefries was to tender, however didn’t have the crispness I like in mine. With the large mug off coffee, I was extremely happy with breakfast there.
Service was great and I could really tell the servers cared as we had 3 people who stopped by to see how we were doing. They worked efficiently as a team to keep service friendly and top quality. My wife loves cinnamon and told me her French toast could use some more, wich I thought it was just right. When an employee stopped by to see how we were doing, I jokingly mentioned it to her and she took it seriously by bringing a ramekin of cinnamon sugar to her.
My wife and I had an excellent time dinning here and look forward to coming back and trying other dishes.
The service at Sunside Diner is nothing short of excellent. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. It’s clear that the cook is a true master of their craft, evident in every dish that came out of the kitchen.
And oh, the food! We started with good coffee served in a huge, satisfying mug, setting the tone for a fantastic meal. The grilled shrimp benny was absolutely perfect.
As seen in my image, two perfectly poached eggs with rich hollandaise sauce topped what looked like generously portioned grilled shrimp, all nestled on toasted English muffins. The shrimp were incredibly well-seasoned, and the upgrade to Cajun homefries was a stroke of genius – those crispy, flavorful potatoes were a standout.
Our other choice, the veggie omelette, was simply delicious. Stuffed with a vibrant variety of fresh vegetables, it was a hearty and flavorful option. The upgrade to Philly homefries was another excellent choice, providing a different but equally satisfying take on the classic breakfast potato. A delightful surprise was the slice of homemade cornbread that accompanied the meal, which was truly to die for – moist, crumbly, and perfectly sweet, it was a highlight.
Beyond the plates, the diner’s character shines through in subtle details, like the charming “EAT” sign with fried eggs depicted in a skillet, adding a whimsical touch to the decor. The overall atmosphere is spacious and welcoming dining area with colorful accents, makes Sunside Diner a place you’ll want to revisit.
For anyone seeking a delightful breakfast or lunch experience with top-notch food, friendly service, and a welcoming ambiance, Sunside Diner in Gales Ferry is an absolute must-try. You won’t be disappointed!
