Paul Gerhard reached out to us about our lackluster dining experience. We gave it a other go. This time was a complete turn around from the first go. We ordered a few different items and were pleased with it all. At this point it’s worth one more try.

I really wanted to love this place. It all started well enough. Appetizers were good. The Dan Dan and Kimchi fried rice was so salty the people I was with spit it out. I just wanna say, salt lick. Our server said the chef tasted the food and that was how it is supposed to taste. Sorry, when the Korean grandmas make it, it’s never like that. Disgusting. We tried the Korean beef tacos and the lobster tacos. The lobster tacos were underwhelming, but the Korean beef were good. The ladies had some sushi, which they were happy with. I had the Chilean sea bass. I will say, this was one of the best tasting fish I have ever had. I normally won’t go back to a place that was this underwhelming (especially at that price) but I would go back for the fish.
Dan Dan Noodles also spicy and delicious, and the kimchi fried rice was worth ordering to share!
The broccoli balanced out all the rich food, would keep that in the list for a little greens.
Great ambiance and attentive service
Other than that, love Sumo. Different interesting food, best bang for buck fish quantity wise was the rainbow something (first photo). The rest is good but nothing to write home. But it gets 5 stars because they have consistently some of the best cocktails in Scottsdale. Magic Mojito is a MUST as is their Match-a-date drink. The cocktails are top tier. I’d come just for the rainbow dish and cocktails and tbh skip the rest.
Waiter was attentive and gave recs!
Prices are a tad excessive in my opinion.
Make a reservation!!
Once we were seated, our server explained the process (because it was our first visit) and said he would bring out a few plates. He did an exceptional job, they were all sooo good. I had the waygu steak and and eggs as my main meal, but I was so full from the small plates (that were unlimited). He ended our service with mini churro con leche and liquid cheesecake. 10 out of 10 stars. The pomegranate guacamole was probably the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot
-Guac and the best seasoned tostada (as the chips replacement), generously portioned
-rangoons
– egg roll
– sushi
-Pancake tacos
Then…
– Bravia papas
– bacon and eggs
– caramelized plantains
Yes more…
We had the waygu steak and eggs on cilantro rice and the Korean fried chicken sandwich as our mIn meal
Ended with our desserts, he recommended dipping our churro into the liquid cheesecake.
All mini, but unlimited..I went back for more sushi and Rangoons, but shouldn’t have All in all, awesome flavor profile, very fresh ingredients, and great service. We will be going back. Note that it is $45 s person so not for the faint of heart from a price perspective, but honestly worth every penny. The environment, food and drink quality was great.
Tatiana, our server, was an absolute gem, attentive, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best time. Service like that turns a great meal into a memorable night.
And the food… WOW. Every single dish felt thoughtfully crafted and packed with flavor. The seafood paella was rich and perfectly cooked, the Waygu carne asada was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the Mexican street corn was next-level addictive. The cocktails were beautifully balanced and did not disappoint one bit.
Then came dessert, pure perfection. The tres leches was incredibly moist and indulgent, and the bread pudding was comforting, decadent, and impossible to stop eating.
This wasn’t just dinner date, it was an experience. Already planning our next visit. Highly, highly recommend!
