We dined here on a busy holiday (MLK) with my mother in law. Easy to get a gondola ticket for her as the rest of the family was skiing.

We waited about 30 minutes for a table. Food was good, better than expected for a remote lodge at the top of a mountain, honestly.

The highlight was the service. Makayla was host, server and food runner. They were a bit understaffed but you wouldn’t know it by how gracious her service was. She checked back on our table often and made sure we had everything we needed. My wife’s and mother in law’s fish was over cooked in the fryer, and she very kindly took those off the bill and replaced them with a cup of salmon chowder that was delicious. Perfect recovery.

Thank for making a bluebird day on the mountain even better, Makayla!

The highest restaurant in the state.
As far as atmosphere goes, on clear days, you can see all 5 of the Washington State volcanoes. And in exceptionally clear days, all the way down to Mt. Hood, Oregon and the Olympic Mountains.
Mt Rainier feel so close, you can reach out and touch it.
Very friendly staff and quick service. Limited menu, but the food is good.
Wedding venue outside.
The gondola ride up, is fabulous and in the winter, even if you don’t ski or snowboard, rides up are open to the public, as is the restaurant.

The Summit House Restaurant is an absolute gem at the top of the Mt. Rainier Gondola ride! The views are breathtaking, with both indoor and outdoor seating that lets you take in the stunning mountain scenery. There are no reservations, but there are plenty of places to sit and relax outside while you wait for a table.

The food was fantastic and the service was friendly and welcoming. Getting there is half the fun—you take a scenic gondola ride to the top (tickets required), which adds to the overall experience. Whether you’re coming for a meal, the views, or both, it’s well worth the trip!

Another breathtaking restaurant with a great view of Mt. Rainier. Had a spectacular lunch with family and the 5K event that was going on at the same time. Lots of people and the service was top notch. Enjoyed the special meal offered for the event. Polite, courteous, and well managed staff and team. Definitely worth the Gondola ride up and down. We look forward to seeing this again in the winter.

We visited The Summit House Restaurant in Aug. 2025. We had the salmon fish and chips (substituted a salad for the chips) and truffle fries. The truffle fries were the BEST I have ever eaten, so delicious! Our server was Audrey and she was lovely. Highly recommend!

This place is a VIBE! Despite reading some of the reviews – I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ordered the burger with smoked gouda and the fish and chips, and both were fantastic. We were lucky with clear visibility and the views were extraordinary. The service on the other hand was terrible. The staff is young and disorganized. Strange mention that the bathroom is actually outside and down stairs with no passage inside the building. We loved the winter esthetic and snow capped mountains, and only wish they kept outdoor seating year around. Inside was sort of cramped and there was no where to go outside while you wait. This is clearly an oversight of the resort sending folks to the top especially who aren’t skiing. Worth mentioning because during summer they have lots of outdoor seating. Would come back!

Despite being very busy, our server Maddy was attentive and the food came out fast. Highly recommend the edamame hummus to start. The fried salmon (fish and chips) was delicious, and so was the pesto pasta. The chicken salad sandwich was not a traditional chicken salad, but rather larger pieces of chicken and apple slices amongst the other ingredients. A bit on the pricier side but we found all the meals and especially the dining experience to be 100% worth while.

Do not order the chicken salad sandwich! It is not chicken salad. It’s mildly seasoned pulled BBQ chicken that doesn’t go with the cherries or apples. The server even said she tries to warn people not to order it, but she forgot to tell me.

Must go on a clear day in order to fully appreciate the beautiful that is Mt. Rainer. If there’s clouds, be warned that it will likely cover most of it.
The top has a nice overly priced restaurant. But you can also buy some food and drinks at the patio outside. Walk down a bit to enjoy some quiet picnic tables and take in the view.
Didn’t find Bigfoot though.

What an excellent restaurant! The food was incredibly delicious, from brisket chili, wild game shepherd’s pie, chicken and waffles, and hamburger. Everything was great! The price was well worth what you get…they definitely give you delicious food and big portions. The view of the mountains and vibe inside are also wonderful.
