To start, parking is ridiculous. Not very spacious, and people make it so much worse by creating a cluster. Space inside the restaurant is adequate. Easy to get a table, and ordering is fast.
Now to the food, we got ours to-go, since we didn’t want to dine in. The Nem Nuong was bland, and when ordering to-go, it comes uncut. Just 4 blocks of meat on skewers. The only redeeming factor was the amount of sauce they gave us, and clean veggies to roll with the Nem. Outside of that, everything was ok. For the price vs quality, it’s quite bad. At nearly 40$ for 2 people, I expected better tasting food.
We ordered a variety of items for our small group, and everything I tried definitely hit all the right notes. The nem nuong summer rolls as appetizer has the thick nem nuong and added crispy textures. The variety of meats on com tam/broken rice or bun/rice vermicelli are all very well seasoned. My vietnamese relative approves the flavors of bun bo hue, although the portion is a bit smaller compared to other places. The item that impressed me was the banh mi. It is pricier than your average banh mi, but packed with tasty meats and 2 whole fried eggs. Great amount of yummy sauce and vegetables to balance it all out. They used a different kind of bread instead of traditional baguette, but works really well in my opinion.
Restaurant is full on Sunday but not hectic, so atmosphere is relaxing for a nice dinner out. The decor and ambiance has nice touches to them.
Also I found out they have 2 locations. This location has more space and better for groups. The other is a bit more trendy/poppy from what I heard. Still very similar menu.
The guy didn’t really offer any compensation other than ”Sorry for waiting, the lady forgot to input it.” So we got our food then , but the food was to go for some reason? Which is conflicting as we were ready at our table seated for food for a long time and there was no indication it was to go.
We finally got our food after a bit , but I found a plastic thing in the vegetables ? Too many things went wrong so fast sadly. We still ate it as we were already hungry.. Thankfully did not swallow the plastic in it.
We came on a Saturday to enjoy some of our favorite dishes at the original Summer Roll location in Rosemead. This place has been around forever, and it’s like coming home for a meal with family. We know the family that owns the restaurant, and they are always so friendly and welcoming.
We had their *nam*, *bun bo hue* (pig foot noodle soup), *banh beo* (steamed rice cakes), and *banh xeo* (Vietnamese crepe with bean sprouts and seafood). The food is from the Hue region of Vietnam, and they do it so well—everything was flavorful, authentic, and delicious.
While the decor here may not be as modern as their newer location in Temple City, this spot has that charm and authenticity that reminds you of a true family-run restaurant. We’ve admittedly neglected this location, but after this visit, we plan to come back more often. The food is excellent, and the warm, homey atmosphere makes the experience even better. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a taste of genuine Vietnamese.
Spring roll also different because inside radish has a sweet and sour taste, good match with pork , so testy !
Must try when you are around Arcadia Los Angeles !
