A must stop on my way to East Texas! Shrimp fried rice is my favorite. Trip is planned around Sum Yum!
Update… Google listing says 10:30am so I stopped in @ 10:35am and the gentleman says they open at 11:00 now. We started to talk and he realized I came a long way so he offered to make my shrimp fried rice early.Legand!!

The food was not great, I read the reviews before coming and thought it would be better. The rice tasted like old oil & the general Taos chicken I would compare to frozen grocery store food. The egg roll and crab puffs were good at least.

How do you review this place? The food was not bad, fried rice was quite good. But the entree??? Ordered gen tso and orange chicken. Got two plates of the same exact dish…a sauce with peppers and chicken(not breaded). Very strange

Curry chicken was delicious. The egg drop soup wasn’t all that great. But the cook redid it with more spices to help improve flavor. Was like water with egg at first. But i reiterate everything else was as expected or better if a gas station Chinese restaurant

Came in and ate a lot before the pandemic. Just started coming back. Got lunch today it is so bad. The orange chicken on lunch special is so dry like it’s yesterday’s Chicken. And the sweet and sour for the egg rolls is like water. Will definitely be taking a break for awhile. So disappointed it was one of our favorite places to eat in this town.

Place is inside of the shell station. Seating is available but minimal. Food is always great. Prices range from 9 dollars for a bowl to 13 dollars for an entree with rice or lo mein and a 20 oz fountain drink.

It was surprisingly yummy for gas station food.
Fried rice and orange chicken/shrimps were super delicious .
The cook was super fast too. Definitely stopping by again.

I love this place! Don’t let the fact that it’s housed inside a gas station fool you. The food is fresh and so, so delicious. And, the woman and man who run its daily operation are incredibly friendly. I go to Sum Yum at least weekly and any time I have guests, I look forward to bringing them to check out the restaurant’s fare. Sum Yum serves all types of chicken, beef, and shrimp dishes, but also has a number of vegetable-heavy and tofu options. This is huge, especially in small-town Texas. Sum Yum serves battered tofu dishes that are amazing, and significantly better than any I’ve had in the Bryan-College Station and even Houston areas. Also, you can’t really beat the price for the lunch special (drink, appetizer, entree, and side, all for less than 8 dollars!)!

I give it 4 stars since it’s cooked fresh, had a good taste and came with a free drink and a small slice of pizza. I ate orange chicken, egg roll and my friend had vegtable lo mein. It is inside the gas station for take out or eat inside like we did. It’s good food but not the traditional dish you would get at a other restaurant.

Don’t judge a book (in this case…a restaurant) by it’s cover (in this case… it’s location). Love the combination lo mein (with extra vegetables). I haven’t tried anything else yet. Food is hot and fresh. Vegetables always crunchy (so far). Best Chinese food since I moved to the area and I’ve tried a lot of Chinese and other Asian restaurants. I will come from CS/Bryan just for the food.
