The food? Absolutely incredible. The beef kabob is hands-down the best I’ve ever had — tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Every dish is fresh, seasoned beautifully, and served with care.
Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, this spot delivers top quality every single time. Highly recommend!
I ate what may be the most interesting dish I’ve had a restaurant in years at this place!
The wife and I came in for dinner on a Friday night and the place was pretty much packed. Fortunately, they accepted our reservation when I called before leaving the house and had a table for us within about 3 minutes of arrival.
This is a family-run business. They are Kurdish people and there are only as many of them as there are. When the restaurant gets really busy they get stretched a bit thin. These ladies sure do hustle and the amount of food coming out of the kitchen is a bit staggering if you get to peek back there and see the operation. We were seated close to the kitchen so we had front-row seats to watch them busting their butts to get everyone taken care of as efficiently as they could manage. The only male employee in view was the bus boy. He turns out to be a friend of the family. The restaurant appears to be an enterprise run by the women of the family with mom in the kitchen and the sisters/cousins waiting tables.
We started with the baba ganoj because we have a hard time not ordering the stuff when it’s available. Made in house and more mild in flavor than I generally prefer. Still quite good but next time we will try something else.
I asked our waitress (one of the younger sisters) for a recommendation between a couple of entrees. She asked if it was my first visit and then proceeded to tell me that the Sultan Pilau was what I needed to order. The wife went in a different direction. Our mains arrived as we were just finishing up the app.
“Wow factor” really doesn’t do justice to the Sultan Pilau. I believe this may well be the most interesting restaurant dish I’ve been served in years. Please take a look at the picture attached to my review as I don’t know that I can do it justice with an explanation. When you break into the dish you’re greeted by a puff of steam because it is served that hot from the kitchen. The phyllo dough is flaky and buttery while the rice is flavorful, tender and incredibly interesting based on the depth of flavors which I cannot possibly put into words and do justice to the dish. The lamb inside is likewise nicely seasoned and cooked to the point of fork-tenderness such that it almost falls apart. There are a bunch of other ingredients in there as well and every bite contains some combination of a few different varieties of nuts, rice, lamb, phyllo and who knows what else but it’s dang delicious!
For dessert I had their kanafa. In our family, this one is known as the hairy dessert because of the appearance of the shredded phyllo dough and their interpretation did not disappoint! I was blown away by the depth of flavor in what is a relatively simple dessert: phyllo, cheese, honey and that’s about it. The dish was served at the perfect temperature such that the cheese was slightly melted and had a nice pull to it. The phyllo was slightly browned on top and everything came together beautifully in each bite.
Out the door for less than $60 after a generous tip because I was so enamored with the family running the place. Great food, friendly if rushed service and a very reasonable price!
The food, as always, is exceptional. Sultan continues to serve authentic Middle Eastern cuisine with flavors that transport you straight to the Kurdish region of Iraq. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, and the quality speaks for itself.
What sets Sultan apart just as much as the food is the people behind it. The owners and staff deliver top-notch customer service and treat every guest like family. They are genuine, warm, and deeply committed to sharing their culture through incredible cuisine.
If you haven’t visited recently, the remodel is the perfect reason to return—but the food and hospitality will keep you coming back. Highly recommend.
Service was good. The staff made sure that we had what we needed and didn’t leave us too long without checking in. Our server was also able to help recommend dishes if there were allergy concerns. The wait was about 20minutes on a Sunday at noon, but their system sent a notification via text and my party was able to take a walk to pass the time since there was little space to wait inside.
The dining area was split into two locations which did make it feel a little crowded. Also, expect the conversation to get loud because the ceiling was high and there wasn’t much for dampening. It is an old building, and they tend to reverberate sounds efficiently.
