This place is a gem for purchasing matcha, bonbons, lattes, and even the vegan soft serve! I originally came to buy some matcha and also ended up having the vegan matcha and black sesame soft serve, which was really rich in flavor, but also amazing! Also note, the bonbons are mostly not vegan (there is only vegan option).

These are the best chocolates my partner and I have ever had. Unbelievably, they taste better than they look! The cookie was also phenomenal – the caramel inside was some of the best I’ve ever had. As a Valentine’s gift, they were a huge hit and now my partner wants to regularly trek down to the shop a couple times per year to indulge in these outside of special occasions.

You can’t go wrong with a box of Sugoi bonbons!

We came across the shop by chance. We were picking up pizza from Milly’s and stopped here for dessert.

IThe presentation of the bonbons lived up to the taste. We got the four pack with guava cheesecake, hojicha puff rice, panda coconut and Mexican hot chocolate. All of them tasted great.

We are definetly coming back for more. I am also eager to try their other chocolate selections.

I can not give enough compliments to Sugoi. I have ordered 3 times in less than a month’s time. I love the unique flavor combinations, how smooth and velvety the bon bons melt in your mouth while wowing the taste buds. The caramels!! Holy moly DELICIOUS!! The matcha almonds are just too amazing to put into words. The ube sesame malt balls, heaven! If I ever travel to Chicago the trip will be because of Sugoi to experience in person. Reading other reviews I can’t wait to try matcha soft serve. I almost forgot the nougat. It’s all out of bounds tasty. I will be a customer for life. I can’t wait to try the actual matcha tea and everything Sugoi has to offer. Thank you so much for the passion!! It comes through in all your creations. Also LOVE the bon bon box art!! You all are ridiculously talented and I’m definitely reaping the benefits!!

wanted to try sugoi sweets from both hearsay and wanting to cross yet another cafe for matcha off my list. heard a lot of good reviews from both google and tiktok but unfortunately, this place did not meet my expectations personally.

i enter the small shop and wasn’t even greeted which i thought was a bit odd. while some girls were talking to the cashier, i decided to walk around and take a look at their matcha and their decor. i think their matcha powder is insanely overpriced for just a small bag.

was trying to ask the cashier more questions about the matcha — if they do any type of cold foam on top and just trying to get a better description of what i should expect from the matcha latte. i could tell the girl was getting quite flustered? for lack of a better word. and she just kept saying “i’m not sure”. so i just told her it’s fine and ordered a reg strawberry matcha with oatmilk.

now the matcha itself — is where the 2 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ come in. as you guys can see in the first picture there was barely any matcha powder in my drink. maybe 15% matcha and 45-50% milk with only a drizzle of strawberry puree syrup is what it seemed like. the matcha was BARELY strong and i could barely taste it. was super watery as well. i really enjoy a very earthy and strong taste in my matcha but still like a little bit of balanced sweetness. i feel like i didn’t get any of that and i was left so disappointed. toward the last sip of my drink it became so increasingly bitter that i legit coughed so hard because it went down the wrong way. never has that happened to me before while drinking matcha.

now maybe this place isn’t just the place for matcha latte’s and that’s understandable. i would like to come back to try their actual deserts and matcha soft serve but for now, i will gladly try other cafes for their matcha and come back to this one at another time.

Love, love, LOVE Sugoi Sweets. Every bonbon I’ve tried has been unique, delicious, and creatively made. Their matcha soft serve is amazing and I love that it’s made with oat milk. Their caramels are soft and tasty. The matcha quinoa chocolates are my favorite. The hojicha powder is great to make lattes at home.
Whenever I’m in the mood for a specialty sweet treat, Sugoi Sweets pops into mind first. It’s a great spot to grab a gift for friends and family as well. Service is always top notch.

I wish they were open during the week, but I understand that crafting all their delicious treats take a lot of time and effort, so I’ll look forward to the weekends instead
Yes, can get a little expensive depending on what you purchase. But I believe it’s priced fairly when you consider the unique sweets you are getting.

I’ve enjoyed Sugoi by ordering their chocolates online so I was very excited to visit the store front. It’s a small store front with no seating. We went around 5 PM and they had quite a few chocolates left. We got a few bon bons and they gave us a sample of the matcha soft serve. It was a cold weekend but it was very delicious! I would have ordered some of it if hadn’t been so cold outside. I would definitely recommend stopping and Sugoi if you are looking for chocolates and connections like caramels and malt balls with a little bit of a Japanese or Asian flair.

Giving an extra star because the chocolates/bon bons/whatever they are are very beautifully made and visually pleasing. So dropping $4 for a tiny piece of handmade art isn’t too crazy (for the right kind of clientele).

Then you take a bite, waiting for some otherworldly flavor (based on the price and reviews) and it’s just… meh. I got the sea salt caramel which tasted like plain caramel. My wife got the Mexican hot chocolate and said the heat was barely there. I’d prefer to pay a premium for great taste over aesthetics 100% of the time.

It’s our fault though because we walked in and the person at the counter just looked at us. No greeting, no “let me know if you have any questions”, no service. We were going to walk out but, admittedly, the pretty colors held our attention long enough to just say “screw it” and overpay for some average chocolate. So that’s on us.

My friend shared Sugoi bon bons with me years ago and I couldn’t forget how delicious they were. I hesitated for years to purchase them because I had to get them delivered to me from Chicago to California, but after years of trying to find a “replacement” of these delicious chocolates, I couldn’t- so I purchased some and it was the best decision ever. I am savoring each flavor as I eat one at a time. I love all the different flavors that literally melt in my mouth. It’s a subtle, sweet, and delicate explosion of deliciousness in your mouth. I literally couldn’t forget the taste for years.. and I have tried so many different chocolates around the world. This is my favorite! I wish I could have this shop in California so I could have it all the time!

The staff is lovely, I’ve been multiple weekends in a row and the matcha lattes are consistently good, which is honestly a first for me in Chicago! I love that you can choose the matcha powder used and their selection of MK and proprietary matcha. Highly recommend!
