Sugar Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale is an absolute gem and a must visit. Walking in feels like stepping back in time with its classic soda fountain charm, retro décor, and fun, nostalgic atmosphere that instantly puts you in a good mood.

The ice cream was amazing :rich, creamy, and generous with portions. Whether you go for a sundae, shake, or classic scoop, everything is made perfectly and tastes just as good as it looks. The service is friendly and keeps the old fashioned experience alive, which makes it even better. Ours was a layered mint, strawberry with marshmallow on the bottom: I definitely waddled out of this pink place!

If you’re in downtown Scottsdale, Sugar Bowl is a must stop for dessert or a sweet break. It’s fun, iconic, and truly one of those places that makes a visit memorable.

One of the best chocolate malts I have ever had.

If you want a traditional ice cream shop with a ton of options this is THE spot. Plus they have diner food as well. Super pretty inside. Very pink.

Games in another room so bring the kids.

Staffed checked on me multiple times without asking. Love this place.

Such a cute little ice cream shop with a retro vibe! It’s been there for a long time, my family has been coming here off and on for many years when we’re in the area and they never disappoint. Most recently I got the brownie with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and marshmallow cream and it was quite good. They have more than ice cream too – my grandmother also ordered a Rueben sandwich and she said it was quite good.

They didn’t lie with the name—my sundae was pure sugar. I ordered the Creamed Walnut Fudge Sundae and somehow tasted no chocolate, no marshmallow, no pecans, not even ice cream. Just sweet and cold. I genuinely wondered if it was my taste buds malfunctioning… until I tried my sister’s food.

Her finger sandwiches (egg salad and corned beef) were delicious. The kettle chips? Perfectly crisp and salty. Her Coke float was solid too, but that’s hard to mess up—just Coke and vanilla ice cream. Meanwhile, folks around us seemed thrilled with their banana splits, so maybe I just picked the wrong item.

Despite the sundae flop, our server Olivia was an absolute gem: kind, attentive, and genuinely lovely. She made the experience feel cared for, even if the dessert didn’t.

Gimmicky unfortunately. They admittedly use store bought BlueBell ice cream, 1.5L is $8 at Walmart vs. $4.50 small scoop here The 1950’s charm & decor gets you in the door but prices are high & quality is low. The staff were fairly nice but again, quality of food was far too low especially given the competitive area.

Old timey ice cream shop that also has a food menu. The sundae was delicious and service is quick. Definitely a must stop in old town if you’re craving something sweet!

This place is straight out of the 60s, pink walls, diner booths, and the kind of vibe that makes you feel like you should be wearing a leather jacket and ordering a sundae with a jukebox playing in the background. The ice cream was everything you want ice cream to be, cold, creamy, and full of flavor. I went with a double scoop because I keep it simple, and it was spot on. My partner got a parfait and it looked like something straight out of a magazine, stacked and layered perfectly.

The best part is you actually sit down, order, and it comes out made fresh, none of this “stand in line, get scooped, and shuffle away” routine. Portions were generous, the flavors were dialed in, and the whole place just nails that classic throwback charm.

If you have not been here yet, fix that. Seriously. It is ice cream that tastes like happiness, nostalgia, and childhood all mixed together, and it is absolutely worth the stop.

Stepping into The Sugar Bowl is like stepping back in time in the best way possible. This charming little gem in Scottsdale has been around for decades, and it’s easy to see why it’s still going strong.

The pink aesthetic is absolutely adorable – from the striped walls to the nostalgic decor, it feels like you’re dining inside a vintage postcard. The framed photos of the original soda fountain setup add a nice historical touch and give you a real sense of the place’s legacy.

The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even sweeter. The food was great – I had some classic tea sandwiches that were fresh and tasty, and we couldn’t resist trying one of their sundaes. It was everything you’d want from an old-fashioned ice cream treat: rich, creamy, and topped with the perfect cherry.

And don’t miss the arcade in the back! It’s such a fun, unexpected addition – full of retro games that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting Old Town Scottsdale, The Sugar Bowl is definitely worth a stop. It’s not just a meal – it’s a full experience packed with nostalgia, flavor, and charm.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, I think my last visit was in 2006. My great grandmother used to take my mom and aunt when they were kids, and my grandmother used to come here as a teenager. Now I’m here as a 4th generation fan of the sugar bowl and it’s something I look forward to every time I come to Arizona. This time we stopped in after a funeral for a bite of something sweet to lift our moods and spend time as a family. It’s just as good as I remember.
