This place was wonderful. The ladies working today when we came were beyond welcoming! Despite the clear lunch rush, we were greeted before even laying eyes on a seat with a warm welcome.

Our waitress was bubbly, welcoming, and very understanding to our hmms and hums about deciding what food ourselves and 5 year old would like. She even helped me understand what was on the pizza burger (which by the way I recommend!) and showed a thorough understanding of what they serve on the menu and what’s involved in the process of it being made. I always love that, as some places must ask their cooks (which can always be good too to be safe) though I admire that she knew! She was attentive all through our meal, and even let me slam down a ginormous bite and mumble before patiently waiting for me to finish (like the simple food loving hog I am) to say it was wonderful.

We chose the French dip, which was your typical baseline French dip. If I could nitpick, the “au jus” could use some more depth to it. But it was a delicious base that reminded me of a wonderfully fresh bone broth. It wasn’t sodium filled tasting like the packets other restaurants can toss in for a large batch to produce. I loved it, and thought it was a perfectly neutral meal with a lovely meaty flavor, though not much seasoning. (As expected though lol its a good run of the mill French dip)

Now- the pizza burger!? I was INTRIGUED, and I’m glad I was! It was delicious, the mashup of crispy, the additional flavors of the batter and the cheese INSIDE of it being fried!? Omg. It wasn’t chewy, overcooked, dried out, or anything I would’ve expected. It was tender, flavorful, and a delicious batter that added an almost fish-like breading like texture that simply crumbles in the mouth with each bite. Their buns were beyond fresh on each meal as well!

The fries, my daughter honestly loves slightly on the softer side. I do wish they had more of a batter type crisp to them, but they went lovely with the pizza burger to add to that delicious carb taste I love so much. A potato bun on that pizza burger would simply take it to another level dare I say. Though I wish had more flavor, that heavy starch flavor is a go to that nobody can deny as it’s the baseline flavor of any French fry to say the least.

The Pickle spears? My daughter LOVED them. The batter was seasoned, crispy to perfection, the pickles inside weren’t dried out or overcooked at too high of a temp too. My daughter was obsessed with the ranch, to the extent where I had to remind her the pickles existed outside of a spoon into the platter they gave her

I’d recommend this place any day, seems like a lovely local staple of a cafe/lunch spot that anybody could grow to love. Not too fancy, not too out there, and not too plain to not visit a second time. Reminds me of the homey cafe my family took me to at my daughter’s age, and I think I’ve just found her future memories to share the same. ❤️ we will definitely visit again. All together with the appetizer, two meal baskets, and three drinks I spent MAYBE $35 total including the tip. Amazing prices for the servings given, and we loved it.

I’ve went there forever and always had a good experience.. Well that was until today. 40$ for two omelets and hashbrowns. That’s beyond ridiculous to say the least.. My order was wrong, they put double meat etc in and I didn’t ask for it. The lady was trying to run my card like she didn’t give a crap to say the least. I had to speak up and tell her to stop.. I refuse to go there again after the horrible service that I received. If you want a good breakfast or any meal for that matter.. Go to Klunders in New Hampton iowa. They have great food, great service and most of all friendly atmosphere! Great prices too

That was fast! This lady cooked that breakfast in under five minutes! It was less than $6.50. This is a busy local favorite. I got there at 9a and the parking lot was full. It’s a seat yourself place. Pay at the register in the picture. Ten booths, two bar seating tables, and two larger tables seating six or more. The eggs, ham, and wheat toast were very good. I am pleased.

We had a sundae and it was great. The young man didn’t skimp on my Carmel or Black Raspberry but I’m giving the service / atmosphere a 3 because he seemed put out by making 1 Sundae, and the other 2 workers never acknowledged us ‍♀️ it was a weird vibe. Again, good ice cream.

Great little place off the main street. We stopped in for late breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy, the breakfast sandwich was flavorful and packed with ham (my choice of meat). Our waitress was sweet and very attentive. We will definitely be back tomorrow for breakfast before leaving town!

Breakfast, bland skillet, pancake, French toast and eggs hollandaise was mediocre. Unbelievable low prices.

Over all, breakfast food is less than average and cleanliness was not good

Place could use a really good cleaning.

Rockin home style diner cookin. “BigT” is the old school Bic Mac…supersized. The sweet sweet potato fries! Wife had the basic. 1919 Root Beer is a diner classic (I crushed two glasses). Beer Cheese soup is a meal unto itself – nice and chunky. Pies come to thr menu in early summer. SZQ is the real deal and worth the road trip!

Just a small town Café that’s pretty adorable and I think the most impressive part was the portions were so huge that you really got your moneys worth and it was reasonable prices to begin with. I wasn’t expecting such a great deal like that 🙂 everything was delivered, hot and amazing with a smile by a great server 🙂
