On 01-02-2025, at approximately 9:10 PM, my elderly parents and I had an upsetting, stressful, and humiliating experience at this Subway location (6046 Pacific Blvd, Los Angeles). We arrived about 20 minutes before closing, and my mother, who is 75 years old, with walking difficulties and pre-diabetes, was helping my father—who is 85 years old, suffering from dementia, diabetes, and a heart condition—by administering his insulin before we ate. I, too, am dealing with significant chronic pain due to a car accident, which made this situation even more difficult to handle.
After purchasing our food, the male staff member informed us they would be closing in 8 minutes. I kindly explained our situation and asked if we could finish our meal since my father needed to take his medication after eating. The attendant agreed, but shortly after, both staff members became aggressive and demanded that we leave immediately, threatening to call the police despite my repeated explanations of my father’s medical needs and his need for assistance with his medication.
The female worker threatened to call the police if we didn’t leave immediately. This was incredibly distressing, especially considering the medical needs of my elderly father and the chronic pain I suffer from. Despite explaining the situation calmly, both employees continued to rush us, refusing to allow us to finish our meal or let my father take his medicine in peace.
Due to the stress and pressure from these two employees, my poor father, who could barely hold his medicine because of his dementia and weakness from his heart condition, dropped his medication. The stress and hostility caused his medicine to fall from his hands, worsening the situation. They continued to push us to leave immediately, despite our clear need to finish our meal.
They alleged that they had to make us leave because the restaurant was closing and stated that their boss would fire them if they allowed my elderly disabled parents and me—someone suffering from chronic pain due to a car accident—to stay until we finished our meal. Their sign clearly reads that the restaurant is open from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, and we arrived well before closing time.
When I requested to speak with the manager to explain the situation, the female attendant told me she had already spoken to the manager, who instructed her that we needed to leave immediately. She refused to allow me to speak with the manager directly, as I had requested, nor would she let me speak to their boss.
The treatment we received was not only disrespectful but also abusive. My father, already fragile due to his multiple health conditions, was visibly distressed—coughing and choking—because of the rush and hostility from the staff. He was unable to finish his meal or take his medicine in peace. The stress from this situation only worsened my father’s condition and exacerbated my chronic pain, which flared up due to the anxiety and hostility we experienced.
My mother, an elderly woman, was already struggling with walking difficulties and pre-diabetes, and she was doing her best to assist my father in this challenging situation. She was deeply affected by the harsh and rushed treatment, which only added to her emotional distress.
We were forced to leave our unfinished meal under duress, which was a traumatic experience for my entire family. This kind of treatment, especially towards vulnerable individuals with disabilities and medical needs, is completely unacceptable.
I strongly advise anyone with disabilities or elderly family members to avoid this location. The lack of empathy and professionalism from the staff is appalling. I hope Subway takes immediate action to train their employees to treat customers with respect and dignity.
