First off, I walked in and barely got a greeting. There was nobody else in the store. As I stood there waiting for him to acknowledge that I might be there for an order, he just kept making more and more sandwiches. Another kid (and by kid I mean high school age) comes in about 3 minutes later, and looks at the guy and says “so I take it you got my online order for 18 footlongs?” The worker kid laughs and says yes. Still saying nothing to me. But now knowing more information about the order he is working on I ask “so does that mean you are going to complete all 18 of those before even taking my order?” He had only started maybe 5 of the 18. He responds “yes I have to. They came in first.” I told him I was only ordering 1 sandwich to which he responds “sorry these were first.” Even after the kid picking up the order said he could wait for mine to be done! So I said that if he seriously wasn’t going to take my order until those were were done I was leaving. He still looked at me and said “sorry I’m doing these first. They came in before you.”
Ridiculous!! He didn’t even ASK me what I was there for, let me know that there was a huge order that came in, offer to make mine quick if it was small, explain any of the situation, NOTHING. I saw another gal going behind the counter, so I assume she was there to be on shift and the guy didn’t even mention that there was someone else clocking on and she could help if I was willing to wait a minute. There were SO many options for this situation and he picked the worst one. Not putting a customer who is physically there above an online order has NEVER been a standard in food service or customer service and should not have been in this situation either.
Listen. Today, a Saturday at 1 pm, we come to pick up our online order and there’s one lone employee, clearly hustling. I tell him the name and he says he’ll get to it ASAP and that HE’S THE ONLY EMPLOYEE WORKING. Until 3 pm. Like… Seriously??!
So Gabriel is a fabulous and efficient, kind employee with a fantastic attitude because he didn’t complain at all and told me it was all good.
But do better subway. There’s no way you’re gonna gold on to good employees if you leave one person to serve everyone for the entire lunch hour. On a weekend.
