Reviews
Now that I’m posting a review, I’m wishing I would have read the others before going! I placed an order online using the mobile app. It allowed me to select a “50% off a foot-long sandwich” coupon, as well as a free cookie deal that I had in my rewards. When I selected the promo, the app gave me a choice to pick a participating store, which leads me to believe that you can not accidentally select a store that doesn’t participate in the promo. I get to the store 10 minutes later and there’s no mobile order waiting. I waited for awhile, then had to ask about it. At this point, I was told by the girl behind the counter that “they don’t do the half -off discount”. I was confused since I was able to place that order through the app. She told me that they couldn’t honor these discounts because they “can’t pay their rent”. She then went on to tell me how other businesses in the same shopping center had to close their doors, because rent was so expensive and – again – she tells me they can’t give out discounts because they can’t pay their rent. I said that sounded like a problem between them and corporate, because corporate allows customers to place these orders using this promo. She complained to me that corporate doesn’t allow them to opt out. I said that I was sorry to hear that, but I expected the order I placed – and paid for. She said, no – we canceled your order. ?! They just canceled it. I had no way of knowing. I still drove over there expecting to pick up dinner for my kid. I had a timing constraints as I was trying to grab food for him while he was in between two practices – and they just canceled it! She didn’t seem to care that I drove there for nothing. While the girl was not rude, she was very matter-of-fact. She was unapologetic and definitely expected me to understand and sympathize with the fact that “they can’t pay their rent”. I asked for the store information, and the owner came out to talk to me. She was very rude and gave me the same story about not being able to pay her rent. She told me corporate made a mistake by listing them as participating. She gave me the store number (322) but refused to give me her name. Now that I’m looking at all the other reviews here, it sounds like this has been going on for a while. This local subway either has to opt out of those discounts or corporate has to make them honor them. I certainly feel for their predicament, but it shouldn’t fall to the customer. Also, you don’t know what kind of financial situation the customer is in. Maybe they wouldn’t be ordering without that discount. Complaining to customers about not being able to pay your rent, and canceling their orders seems like the wrong place to direct your dissatisfaction with corporate. Upside: I went to another Subway with the nicest folks and great customer service! They even honored the “free cookie” reward I lost when the first store canceled my order. Great folks! Go visit the Subway at 5601 General Washington Drive!!
