You enter a Subway store, and it’s empty, slightly too cool to be comfortable, slightly too damp to feel clean, and slightly too bright to be inviting. There is one lonely employee, who does their best not to look at you for those awkward 10 seconds while you walk to the counter before you’re close enough to order. You know you interrupted them while they were doing something else. They give their greeting, ask you what you want, you begin scanning their workspace. The bins of raw ingredients are sitting askew, separated by steel walls, yet careless hands have dropped some of each on all the others. The preparation area is littered with crumbs and bits of lettuce, maybe the odd olive or onion piece here or there that has wedged itself into the crack between the food trays and the cutting board. This could have been cleaned up while nobody was there, but the employee doesn’t care. For one second you wonder how it got messy in the first place given the lack of customers. Maybe it’s staged, like those first few pennies in a homeless person’s hat. Do you want it toasted? You do, but that would mean standing here for a minute with the stranger you disturbed waiting for the bread to be sanitized. You observe the employee assemble your sandwich, making sure to painstakingly put each ingredient on only one half of the sub. You ask for sauce and they squeeze it out of a disgusting rubber nipple, then toss the bottle back into its bin like they don’t want to touch it either. Are they wearing those gloves to keep the food clean, or their hands? You pay, the sandwich heavily sags into a flimsy garbage bag it doesn’t really seem to fit in and is handed to you. You walk out, into the light of the sun. The colors suddenly seem real again and you become aware of your breathing because the air feels rich and life giving somehow. The distant memory of tasty subs that brought you here lingers just beyond the edge of clear recollection, like an old acquaintance who’s face you can’t picture anymore. You carry your catch to the car. When did it get this bad?
Today me and my daughter went to visit our local Subway but there wasn’t anybody helping us for about 5 minutes and there wasn’t an employee in sight. We even wondered if the establishment was open but there were two diners at the front table eating so we waited for somebody to come out. When somebody did come out, the woman was snippy and seemed reluctant to help us. We were immediately confused when my daughter went to order her sub because the stainless steel lid was wide open and blocking the entire meat and cheese section. We literally could not see anything because the lid was obstructing our entire view of the selection. My daughter was the one ordering the food so she went up to the lady and requested a 6 inch sub on wheat bread. The lady curtly told my daughter she could not understand her so my daughter had to repeat herself twice. Then, my daughter politely asked the lady if she could remove the lid so she could see what options were available. The lady spoke a bunch of gibberish in a completely incoherent manner so my daughter begged her pardon. The lady then just said a bunch of jumbled up words again in a condescending way as an excuse to leave the lid covering the food so my daughter just ordered off the top of her head without getting to see any of the options. As a fast food chain that specializes in letting the customer choose their own ingredients, I find it appalling that that option was not available at this Subway. The lady lacking any sort of customer service was also a real mood killer.
The food we received was incorrect. Sandwiches were not build properly and the ingredients came mixed (receipt provided for build).
Along side the wrong ingredients on the sandwiches came the the very egregious amount of ingredients on both sandwiches (pictures provided for looks)
I can understand that covid has impacted a ton of stores and portion sizes but this is completely ridiculous.
To top is all off, when we attempted to call the store, the worker there gave the phone to a manager who promptly hung up the phone without as much as a sorry.
I would not recommend this location at all in good faith to anyone in the community who’s looking for anything decent, no matter the taste or costs.
I decided to give the location another visit. Hoping that after a year that ownership/management had made changes to improve. I’m happy to report that during my visit it appears that changes have definitely been made. The staff was attentive and service was quick. The restaurant was clean and organized. Only small down side sure my visit was that a number of the fountain drinks were out of order. But they were labeled as such to let people know and I’m sure calls were already made to be fixed. If you are looking for a subway to eat at, give this location a try.
Don’t waste your time it trying this location. Went is side to get some food at lunch time and there was no one in the front. I waited about 5 mins and then saw someone working in the back. Said hello to try to get there attention just to let them know I was there and got no response. Waited a few minutes more then just decided to leave. Going to another location and recommend doing the same.
I usually go to the Mezeh next door to get food after my workouts. Unfortunately, at the time I went, they were out of chicken and I would’ve had to wait 15 minutes which I didn’t have. So instead, I came here.
However, despite the store being completely empty, my visit was an egregious act of inconvenience for the staff. One of the excellent sub crafters came out from the back. I instinctively said hi, with a dash of excitement in my voice, for I was very hungry
Which was met back with the most annoyed “hey” back. Completely understandable given that I put a damper on their day with my ugly mug.
I wasn’t even going to write this review. But then she tried to screw me over on the protein, by very intentionally half scooping. Of course there was no reason getting upset at this. I simply asked her to do double meat, and instead elected to come right this glowing endorsement of such a wonderful store!
