For some reason there are very few cajun, Creole restaurants in SoFlo. I ordered a mixture of waitress favorites because I was curious and my eyes were bigger than my stomach.
The crab ragoons are made at the location and a chunk of blue crab is added to help localize it. By itself, it’s great but dip it in the sweet and sour and it’s like having dessert for an appetizer. Delicious.
The first thing that hit me with their gumbo was the wonderful smell. Very close to mine. Nice taste and heat profile. Not too hot but if you want it hotter, they can help with that. I like a little more rice in mine but that’s ok.
The Cajun fried rice was fantastic. Huge amount. Great flavor. Plenty to take home to finish off later.
I had two waitresses taking care of me. They were both very nice and very attentive. One, who I got to know better, knowing my history in restaurants, brought over the bottle with dried ice to make it bubble, for me to wash my hands after dinner. This is usually reserved for meals where you use your hands but she was sweet and wanted me to have the experience. It was a very nice touch to finish off the meal.
This place is nothing fancy. It doesn’t need to be. Fancy and cracking a pound of crawfish open and eating them don’t necessarily go together.
Thank you for bringing this to Florida.
The boiled shrimp and torpedo sauce were good, but it still doesn’t mean this place isn’t a big ripoff.
We ordered the #1 combo which was supposed to include 1lb clams, 2lbs shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes for $36.99. We asked to swap out the corn for something else, the waiter gave a choice of potatoes or more potatoes.
After roughly an hour they brought us 2# of shrimp with 4 small boiled potatoes and four 1 inch slices of sausage. The server that brought us our food misidentified the sauce and walked away. When we finally got our servers attention and asked about the clams we were advised that he would get them. After 30 minutes of stuffing ourselves with shrimp we were full so we told them to cancel the clams. (There’s nothing more unappealing than cold boiled clams.)
They then charged us a la carte, so we ended saving $1.02 after cancelling part of the meal they had yet to deliver. FYI, a lb. of clams on the menu was $11.99.
This place could care less for it customers and their time. Getting orders correct seems to be a challenge and then they take it out on the customer.
