Stroud’s does not live up to the hype. The fried chicken was terribly dry, and the Parmesan Cream Grilled Chicken Pasta was inedible. I’ve been hearing about Stroud’s since I moved here, and I was so excited to go. I think it might be time to drop the James Beard Award fame. It was awarded in 1998, and they have no business using it as a way to get people in the door. I’ve had better fried chicken at a gas station in Virginia.

Also, don’t be deceived. The “cinnamon rolls” are not traditional cinnamon rolls. They are day old dinner rolls with cinnamon sugar on top.

TJ was amazing though. She was working behind the bar and also taking care of us. She was friendly, attentive, and just all around awesome.

Fun atmosphere! We used to go to Strouds on 85th & Holmes in the 90’s. Chicken is still the juiciest. We had left overs for 2 more meals.

Actually didn’t get any photos of the food because I was so distracted/impressed with the ‘Twinkle’ decor this visit! Strouds had always been so consistent with their food! The chicken noodle soup is where is at, talk about delicious!!!

Stopped in for dinner and had the best experience! The food was absolutely delicious. My favorite thing was the chicken fried steak. Absolutely perfect! You go home with so much food that you can make another meal out of it! Tejai was our server as well and she made our experience so much fun. She was very informative on the menu and very attentive while also making great conversation. If you go here ask for her! She’s the best!

My chicken fried chicken was stale tasting. The rolls dipped in cinnamon were hard and dry. The first bowl of green beans had chunks of ham which was great but the second had no meat and lots of stems. I did complain about the stale chicken, and the tenders they replaced it with tasted better, but it all definitely didn’t feel worth the price. I asked if I was there during happy hour when we arrived since there was a sign for it but no time listed, the hostess said no. Before we left I went to the restroom and saw a sign in there with the times posted indicating we actually were there during happy hour. We felt forgotten about tucked back in the room we were seated in. I’m glad we gave ourselves plenty of time for dinner before the movie started.

I really loved their Chicken Fried Steak and fried chicken.
They have all you can eat sides including mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans. They have cinnamon buns for dessert.
The restaurant had plenty of space for you to bring your family.
The restaurants in a great location.
Strouds is a must try restaurant in KC.

White meat chicken very very dry. They had no deserts. Cinnamon rolls were terrible. They are rolls but not what I would call Cinnamon rolls. I threw those away. My wife’s salmon was ok but likes the north strouds better. I was disappointed in both strouds. I will not go here again. 2 visits I spent 150 bucks. Green beans were great however.

First time her and when we pulled up we weren’t sure is was open the parking lot was dark and the walk way was dark. Wait staff was great but the world famous chicken lacked flavor and was on the dry side and I ordered two thighs! The gravy lacked seasoning but the green beans were amazing. Needless to say we won’t be back.

Went for the holiday pop up and the decor was amazing. Super cute! Our waitress wasn’t interested in being there. She didn’t check in on us, my mom asked for a new sprite because it tasted off and she dismissed her. We didn’t have our drinks refilled once and had to ask for the cinnamon rolls (not sure if that’s normal). We used to really enjoy strouds but feel like the chicken portions have significantly decreased in the past few years. Go for a drink to enjoy the decor!

This is the kind of food we grew up on. And as my husband and I agreed it wasn’t every day that grandma or mom would make this. Strouds is rare as almost no restaurants pan fry chicken. That’s why chicken strips are the thing. We are here tonight and the food was delicious. It’s down home comfort food. And no, they aren’t frying the chicken when you order it. No one would want to wait 45 minutes for it. We came for restaurant week and it was delicious with good service.
