The Hungry Hunter
Hopdoddy Burger Bar – Phoenix

I was in the mood for a great burger and found Hopdoddy nearby. The menu looked excellent, and I noticed they even offer Wagyu beef—which I didn’t try this time but definitely will next visit.

This was my first time here, and it was an easy 5-star experience. Melissa took our order and told us we’d enjoy everything on the menu, and Hopdoddy Burger Bar definitely delivered.

My friend ordered the classic burger, and I went with the double bacon jam burger. It was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with that sweet-and-smoky bacon jam. The brioche buns really stood out—freshly cooked, lightly buttered, and toasted just right. They held everything together without falling apart or drying out like you get at typical fast-food burger joints.

I had seasoned fries on the side, nicely seasoned and a great complement to the burger.

Before leaving, I noticed the custard-based milkshakes (you can even get a boozy one if you want). Dave, the bartender, made the shake I ordered, and it was outstanding—honestly reminded me of that Pulp Fiction $5 milkshake scene with John Travolta and Uma Thurman. One of the best shakes I’ve had in a long time.

Great food, great service, and I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Every time I come through Phoenix I have to stop here. This last time I sat at the bar. Love the service, love the food, love it all. I’m a vegetarian, so I got the veggie burger. Didn’t disappoint. The bartender, who was doing drinks for the entire place was amazing. She gave me good recommendations for drinks. Don’t remember the names but it was seasonal. Kid friendly.

We somehow hadn’t been here yet, so we went in cautiously optimistic, which was a mistake, as it turns out. We kicked things off with the Holiday Sour, which sounded great on paper: Brother’s Bond Bourbon, Disaronno, black cherry purée. What showed up was… pleasant juice. If there was alcohol in that glass, it was merely a suggestion. Festive? Sure. Sour? Barely. Spirited? Absolutely not.

The green chili queso fries arrived next and briefly convinced us the night might be salvageable. Shoestring fries, nicely salted, and a queso that’s clearly made in-house and actually knows what it’s doing. Easily the best thing we ate. The fries could’ve used another 30–45 seconds in the fryer, but the queso was working overtime and nearly carried the entire meal on its back.

Then came the Double Bacon Jam Burger, and any remaining optimism quietly left the building. Two ¼ lb patties, American cheese, mustard-grilled onions, pickles, mayo, and a tomato “bacon jam” that had apparently never met bacon. It was all tomato, zero smoke, zero depth, more marinara-adjacent than bacon jam. The patty was cooked fine but had strong frozen-puck energy, and there’s no option to choose the cook temp, which explains why everything felt aggressively average.

Service didn’t help. This is order-at-the-counter fast-casual, which is fine in theory, but not what we were expecting. Everything came out immediately. Fries hit the table in under a minute, drinks followed seconds later, and the burger arrived before we’d even processed the fries. It felt rushed and impersonal, like we were on a timer. By the time we tried to juggle everything, our food was already going cold which somehow matched the overall vibe.

Bottom line: not the worst burger I’ve ever had, but that’s a very low bar. In a town full of genuinely good burgers, this one barely competes. Plenty of better options nearby, and we’ll be going back to those.

Omg. Just go. Sooo good. The burgers were cooked perfectly. The sides were amazing. We wanted a good burger and this totally delivered. The Wagyu burger was honestly the best burger I’ve had in awhile. Definitely worth a try, and if you’re GF or celiac, they have a bunch of options. Go.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar in Phoenix delivers big flavor and a fun vibe. The Cadillac Burger was fantastic, juicy, rich, and perfectly cooked. Pro tip: stand to the right of the bar and order to-go to skip the long wait.

You order your food and drinks inside, and they assign you a table either inside or outside, although they told us we could just choose one outside, and they bring everything to you

Some of the outside tables are considerably wider than your standard picnic table, so it makes you feel more distant from your partner, and makes it a bit of a challenge to reach the fries if they are in the middle to share; I just ended up putting some on my tray, and pouring some queso over them

Right off the bat, we got our fries before we got our drinks, less than 2 minutes after sitting down, we got our burger before we barely got into the fries or drinks, so it kind of makes you feel rushed, and also makes the food get cold very quickly

Texas Sling
Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Italicus Liqueur, Lime & Pineapple
Not long on flavor, easy on the vodka, tasty for sure, but not notable

Green Chile Queso Fries
Creamy, cheesy, lots of diced green chili, brings a little heat, definitely tastes housemade, not from a can; the fries are not quite shoestring small, but they are a thinner cut than standard, the fact we sat outside probably made them get colder quicker but they were still good

Double Bacon Jam Burger
Two 1/4 on beef patties, white and yellow American cheeses, tomato bacon, jam, mustard, grilled onions, pickles & mayo
The burger patties were cooked well, good seasoning, though they do seem like Sysco, nice bun which does hold up, the jam is more tomato than bacon
I think a single 1/2 lb patty would be better than two stacked quarter pound patties

I would not consider this a restaurant experience, it’s more akin to fast food, or a badly run burger stand

For being a burger bar the burger was not anything to write home about, and I feel like it should be the star of the show, if anything the queso was the star

They are completely cashless, so keep that in mind if you come, and keep in mind you will be asked for gratuity when you pay for your food and drinks, with no way to gauge what level of service you’re about to receive (I would not have tipped as well)

It is not the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had, it’s not even the worst burger bar experience I’ve ever had, but I don’t think I would recommend this place to anyone, and I definitely will not be returning

The food, atmosphere, drinks, and company was amazing! Service was great! It was out first time in andwe will be back. We also love the location being right next to Barns & Nobles. Amber took care of us and she was great! We will be back to see her!

I am not impressed. My truffle fries are cold and stuck together and kind of chewy. My wagyu burger is over salted and my daughter’s chicken is bland and greasy. I usually don’t leave bad reviews but I just wanted to be honest.

Pretty good place you got a good lunch. There is only 2 in the valley east side if they would put others on the west side, it would be good.

I’ve passed by this spot for years but finally stopped in today — glad I did! It’s a fast-casual concept where you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Drinks and sauces are self-serve, plus they have a bar with alcohol.

I tried the Parmesan cheese fries and the El Diablo burger over Brussels sprouts instead of a bun — I love that option! The Brussels sprouts were perfectly crispy, and the burger was cooked well and had a nice spicy kick. The decor inside is super cute, and there’s plenty of parking since it’s in a plaza.

Service was excellent — one of the staff even checked in on me during my meal. The place was clean and friendly, and I enjoyed every bite.
