We tried Story’s for the first time August 29, 2025, it’s a quiet off the main highway restaurant that has that country appeal to it, yet offers a coastal menu featuring many seafoods and land lover meals. I ordered a hamburger steak plate, came with 2 patties of hamburger, gravy, mashed potatoes and fries. My wife ordered fried catfish slaw and fries. All the food was great and the service was even better, They made you feel right at home, didn’t rush you to order and provided a nice clean environment. Would definitely recommend to any passing thru or just wanting a peaceful country meal.
Update: February 10, 2026 tried the Shrimp Basket. Was delicious, comes with 8 large fried shrimp and a mound of fries for $8.99 photo attached. Ordered online as takeout.

A nice local laid back atmosphere that just takes you back to a quaint and simpler time. The food was delicious. The desert was heaven. I had the banana nut maple cake and each bite was vibrant and full of flavor. The cake was the lightest best of this world I could have asked to experience. If you are looking for the fastest get me out of here service go somewhere else. This is a place to come slow down enjoy a meal and your fellow man.

This restaurant has become the hot spot of Hertford NC and surrounding area for good home cook. They’ve came a long ways and still using the the same recipe, but they have added to the menu Uber in time. Very delicious plus their dessert are scrumptious. Love buying blue crabs from them when in season. They really need to expand the restaurant.
It’s always super busy, i’m super paced. I do know that they were supposed to build a restaurant on the river but never heard anything more about that. The town of Hertford sold land to them for this deal to happen. It would be great. All the boaters could tie off and eat too.

Plan to take an extra 25% of your normal dining time. Servers are great, but kitchen can get behind. Next to us there was a couple that did not get their crabcake on the platter, until halfway done their meal. There is value to their menu, it is a local favorite. During warmer months expect a wait on Friday and Saturday. This is one of the few local eateries we dine at for consistency and quality.

Ordered a shrimp basket and a oyster basket there was about 8 medium sized fried shrimp and 6 fried oyster. A lot of fries. So if you ordered the baskets don’t expect much.
