We have lived here for 2 years now,and I finally talked my husband into going to stories for breakfast. I was super excited, I have heard people say it’s great. Well….
Ok, so I understand how tough the restaurant buisness is, I spent the better part of 30 years in it.
Greensburg itself is severely restaurant challenged. But I don’t want to get off topic.
Breakfast is a great way to gauge a restaurant, it’s the simplest meal to prepare, and easiest to sell. My husband had pancake and bacon. It came out with 3 tiny fake butter cups that wouldn’t even butter a piece of toast. I had 2 eggs, bacon and a biscuit instead of toast, and a side of gravy. All of our food was cold. The bacon tasted like it had been cooked the previous day, and sat out over night. Have you ever eaten cold over MD. Eggs? I did, not exciting. The biscuits were store bought and flavorless, the gravy was ok. Luke warm, and I’m sure packaged. There was no butter brought for my biscuit, no jelly offered. No refill offered on our drinks, the server we had was sitting in a booth eating. I looked over at her thinking she would get up and check on us, she looked right at me started to rise, then sat right back down.
Very wierd smell as you walked in, kinda hard to explain.
I wouldn’t go back to try anything else, because if you can’t get breakfast right, I would fear lunch or dinner.

The server was great we had Donna. This review is mainly about how the kitchen operates. We were sitting waiting for our food for 35 minutes. As we ordered fried pickles as an appetizer and they never came out. Turns out they didn’t have them in the kitchen ready to drop the other person brought the pickles past our table took them to the kitchen after 35 minutes of waiting.

Shannon was our server today, she was very pleasant and attentive. Storie’s was such a quaint little place, it gave the feel of an old fashioned ice cream parlor. Prices were very reasonable.

I wish we had loved Stories but we were unfortunately disappointed. Our service was great but that is where it ends. I ordered the blt wrap. If I had known it would be made with bacon bits, I would have went with something else. My daughter has a bacon burger that was not made with bacon bits. She enjoyed the burger and fries.
My partner was okay with his beef manhattan and did eat it. He commented that the beef was tough but that it is instant potatoes, not real. There seemed to be some issues going on with staffing, particularly in the kitchen, so maybe this was a rough day.

Place was clean, staff was friendly and prices are amazing.
Food was good, couple things. They don’t make their biscuits they’re prepackaged, the gravy is powder mixed with water.
The eggs weren’t cooked as requested; over hard came out with runny whites.
Over medium came out with runny whites.
It’s hard to cook eggs I guess.
Over all good food for the price.
If you pay with a card they add 3.99% to the bill. If you pay with cash you apparently get a 3.99% discount. Except I’m not sure how if the prices listed in the menu are cash price.

Decided to go local and found this gem! Food is fantastic. We parked in the back so were pleasantly surprised to see that we had a great view of a favorite town landmark. The Tree! Y’all gotta stop here. The food and the service are outstanding. Try those fried pickles! And PIE,y’all, PIE!

Tough review to leave, love the small diner feel. It was emptying out when we walked in at 10:45 on a Sunday, but still got busy again as we waited for food. Our waitress told us they only serve breakfast on Sunday and we couldn’t order lunch from their Sunday Lunch menu that the Sunday Lunch menu says is served from 11-2. One of my children was disappointed but ordered a pancake and bacon meal with a side of hash browns bc she was hungry. My other child can’t have dairy in sauces like gravy so ordered a “working man breakfast” that the menu states is two eggs over hash browns with a side of bacon, and I ordered a breakfast quesadilla. We waited almost 30 minutes for the meals. My daughter’s came with gravy over the potatoes, something not stated on the menu, when we pointed out that wasn’t what she ordered, we were told that oh yes it just comes that way, and we explained we wouldn’t have ordered that if we had known. The explanation, that usually they warn people, while sure that makes sense, we weren’t warned, but why not like change the menu or just not do that to avoid confusion? Why suddenly add something that is very clearly not on the menu to a meal? It seemed so strange. They immediately, like instantly, produced a second plate of plain hash browns and eggs for my daughter to correct the issue, which we were very grateful for after waiting with two hungry kids. The breakfast quesadilla was delicious and my daughter’s both loved the pancake. As we were leaving, the table behind us questioned why they couldn’t order lunch and the other waitress corrected our waitress and they were indeed allowed to order lunch… So I’m guessing, just be patient and ask if it seems off. It was our first time in. Pies looked good and apparently sell out quickly. Overall, wasn’t impressed at first and felt very frustrated, but they did make it right very quickly and my food was good. Might be awhile before we come back, but would try again. Everyone was nice.

Sorry, I just don’t get all the great reviews. I ordered fish dinner. Menu stated white fish, I received a very strong, fishy piece of fried catfish. Fries were cold and old. Pretty bad when the best thing on your meal is cottage cheese. Cheeseburger was way overpriced- almost $12 for something that would be $8 anywhere else. Substituted sweet potato fries for the chips that came with the burger- $4.15 up charge for 4 – 4! – fries.
I remember this place being much, much better. I understand it’s been sold a couple times, a lot was lost. I really wanted to like Stories again, but cannot.

This little diner is a gem. So happy we got to return while on our trip. I adore their big pork tenderloin sandwich. And I do mean big! Cut the tenderloin in half and had it next day with eggs for breakfast. If anywhere near Greensburg, Indiana you should treat yourself to this yesteryear diner.
