Sigh, i have to give This place a bad review even though I really don’t want to. My issue is quality control. It is absolutely a fact that much of the best roast beef I’ve ever gotten in my life has come from the establishment. However there are a number of problems that just can’t be ignored. It is not possible to consistently obtain this quality of roast beef or other lunch meats from Steve Stein’s. I can come five times in a row and I will get five different grades of roast beef and I understand there’s variance when you cut one of those large roasts there’s going to be a more well done section and a more rare section I understand this but when you’re cutting from the middle of it consistently you should have some level of consistency and I as a customer don’t know if I’m going to get something ideal or something I actually don’t even want to pay for. So here I am again with several pounds of lunch meat that I don’t even want because even though I looked at the first slice and tasted it and the first half pound that I got was great the other pound and a half of this cut is way too overcooked for me I’m not going to eat it. So that’s money in the trash. But there’s nothing I can do as a consumer about this because it’s not like I didn’t ask to see it first it’s not like I didn’t ask to try a piece and it’s not like I haven’t tried speaking to the staff about this before and what I’ve actually noticed is the staff here at Steve Stein’s is particularly defensive about their quality My friends mother has actually been banned from the establishment because she raised an issue about the quality control. Unfortunately I would say I’m definitely leaving more frequently as a disappointed customer rather than as a customer that was happy I shopped here, I can’t show up and spend my money five times or 10 times for the one time that is an amazing experience. at that point I have to say you know I’d rather go to someone else that consistently can score a 4-6 out of 10 rather than get your 11 out of 10 once in a while and you’re somewhere between two out of 10 and a 5 out of 10 the rest of the time. But maybe it really doesn’t matter cuz another huge gripe and the number one thing that has actively prevented me from spending money here more than anything else and more than every other reason put together is the fact this place is never open If you have a job you are not shopping at this place because they’re not open during any hours that you could come and buy anything from them. It’s really sad that I’m writing this review the way that I am and honestly I’m trying not to say too many negative things here. I should be a regular customer spending money here at least once if not twice a week instead I occasionally come by maybe once a month and I am usually disappointed with that experience. I used to make the effort to come here a couple times a week but it’s absolutely not worth it with the quality control issues also if you try to buy bulk and actually get what you would need for a week they’re going to ding you an increase the price because you bought more. I know some of your screaming supply and demand however they’re not meeting the demand. I think it’s easy to say that by making two changes you can make this place wildly more profitable and that is very simply change the hours so that people can actually shop here, enforce quality control you have zero standard of quality control at this time and it shows I don’t want to be a customer for a business that has no quality control, it sucks. I’m not eager or looking to come back knowing that you have no quality control. If you can’t produce a consistently good experience then you’re not going to have customers come back through that door even if you change your hours to make the storefront available to them.

Steve Stein talks the talk and the Jewish Cheesesteak walks the walk. I love me some pastrami. The seeded light and airing roll was fantabulous. The pastrami was sliced thin and very edible and tasty. The melted cheese and russian dressing made for a phenomenal finish to this amazing sandwich. $9.99 and it came with french fries. Nice little seating area, bathroom and day-old baked goods rack stocked with Danish and bagels, what more do you need? I had a nice little chat with the man sitting next to me. For the 14 year old in me there was a sign on the door that said ‘we have tongue.’ Very good overall experience.

Fried matzah is one of my favorite dishes so My coworker and I got 2 fried Matzah’s with nova for lunch today. and omg!!! It looked, smelled and tasted disgusting. Nova was sooo salty , it burned my mouth. The smell was so awfully strong …I am very disappointed in this place. Also the place looked very dirty. We will not be coming back.

The only place in Northeast Philly to get a great corned beef sandwich and my morning lox spread and bagels. I highly recommend although I just recently ordered the expensive corned beef sandwich and it was really small for 13.99
