We stopped into Stella Luna purely because we were facing a 2-hour wait at the restaurant across the street and needed something quick while hungry. The place looked promising from the outside, with an “A” health grade visible on the door and a public notice about an upcoming ownership change (Stella Luna Inc applying for a license transfer/change in stock owners for what seems to be the same spot previously listed as “Cowboys” or similar in the notice).
Despite the dining room being about 80% empty when we walked in, the hostess claimed the wait was over an hour for a table. We asked about the bar instead, and they allowed us to sit there. Turns out, many other customers were in the exact same boat—killing time waiting for other spots.
The menu was a major letdown: most items we wanted weren’t available. We ordered a salad and crab cakes, which took over 40 minutes to arrive—unacceptable for simple apps when the place wasn’t busy. Food was mediocre at best, nothing memorable.
The restroom was very dirty, which was off-putting given their “farm-to-table, scratch kitchen” branding.
Service felt uninterested and slow, possibly due to the impending ownership transition. It gave the impression the current staff/owners aren’t motivated to provide good service.
We wouldn’t return, and I can’t recommend this place in its current state. Hopefully the new ownership turns things around, but as of now, steer clear.

A great scratch kitchen in Big Bear Lake city and delicious food. The restaurant is very modern and has a great selection of foods. Our server was also very kind and helpful and did his best to attend to us. But I will give some constructive feedback:
– Giving dirty paper menus that have been stepped on and have water and drink marks on it is very much so not nice. It does not give the best look of the restaurant to the customers. Laminated paper menus would be great because they would not get dirty and can get cleaned well.
– Our water cups were not clean. We weren’t sure if they weren’t cleaned at all or weren’t cleaned well, but it’s not nice to be given cups that aren’t cleaned well. Please make sure the dishes are cleaned well before serving.
Otherwise, the food is excellent!! The quality of the meat and everything else were great!! With some improvements to the service, this restaurant can become one of the best in the area.

Came in for a bite at lunchtime and was seated immediately. Nice outdoor patio and the interior has nice half booths against the wall, but the decorations are pretty sparse. It looks a bit sterile in there. It could use some coziness.
I started with some focaccia table bread, and the consistency of it was lovely, but there were no fresh herbs anywhere to be seen or tasted. When I usually order focaccia bread, you get a cornucopia of lovely fresh herbs and this had none. I then had the arugula burrata salad and that was delicious. Nice balsamic glaze with plump raspberries and strawberries, and the Burrata was very creamy with a large portion. Pretty fair prices.

Coming from a vibrant metropolis like Mexico City, arriving in Big Bear, California, can initially feel like a culinary challenge. However, to our pleasant surprise, on the third day of our visit, while searching for a more varied and perhaps slightly more refined breakfast, we discovered this lovely spot. The warmth and charm of the place perfectly reflect the spirit of Big Bear. Not only was the service exceptionally friendly, but the food was of a much higher caliber than we expected, offering a wide variety of options. There are vegan and gluten-free choices, making it inclusive for different dietary needs. Despite being in a smaller town, we felt like we were dining in a refined restaurant you’d find in New York or Mexico City. It was truly a wonderful experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Big Bear!

I forgot to take photos of our meals, but we got the Salmon entree, Buffalo Chicken Meal and my sister and I shared. Both meals entirely gluten free as well as the cake, and our appetizer (Spinash and Artichoke Dip). Everything was wonderful and our server Leticia was amazing 10 out of 10 would come back here again!

We came for lunch and it was a bizarre experience to say the least. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. However, after we were seated our server was trying to rush us to order. He looked busy so we just ordered and let it go. We asked for water and didn’t get any for about 30 minutes. My friend’s salad came out immediately (before water). The rest of us got food much, much later. After 30 minutes of no water we asked again. Waited another 10 minutes or so. I tried to flag someone down and she ignored me. We noticed employees walking around confused almost. Like, they were busy, but we couldn’t tell exactly what they were doing for anyone. Finally our server came back and explained they were having a lot of bad issues in the restaurant. He apologized and grabbed our glasses to get us water because they were “out of clean pitchers.” So we honestly felt bad. It seemed like he was trying, but things were falling apart. We saw quite a few people leave. We got our food late and very far apart. My sandwich didn’t have any sauce on it, but I didn’t want it fixed. We were starving and just ate and left. We asked them what was going on and they said it had “been like this lately.” Things were, “rough.” It would have been better if something was discounted, but that didn’t happen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty and inviting. It is just…. everything else.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Stella Luna for the first time, and it was a delightful experience. What stood out to me the most was the quality of the ingredients—everything was incredibly clean and farm-fresh, which made a significant difference in the taste.
We started with freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juices, both of which were refreshing and vibrant, clearly made on-site. The butter board was a highlight of the meal, featuring toast, butter, and honey—a simple yet irresistible combination.
For my main course, I ordered the crab cakes, which were simply delightful. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. My daughter had the pancakes; however, she found them a bit bland. I believe this was due to their organic preparation, free from any artificial additives, which some might appreciate for its health benefits.
The service was another strong point. Our server was very friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and ensuring we had a pleasant dining experience.
Overall, if you’re looking for clean, fresh food, Stella Luna is the place to go. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend it to others who appreciate farm-fresh ingredients and a friendly atmosphere.

My mom and I stopped in for Breakfast and we had the BEST experience! We want to come back asap. They are a scratch kitchen that uses high quality AND organic ingredients that taste amazing! The menu options are fantastic and they have many options for vegans, vegetarians, and if you are gluten free. We can’t wait to come back next time we visit Big Bear. We had a great server named Shelby who was so kind. Last but not least, we loved that they had earth friendly compostable to go boxes!! Please come here and support them so they stay in business! Breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Only ones in the restaurant and our server IGNORES us (i mean absolutely no eye contact) for over 30 mins. We eventually flagged down another employee to order. It felt intentional at a certain point as another party, whom came AFTER us, received their food before we ordered… atmosphere one star because it made us feel so uncomfortable. I’m writing this in real time, updating time frames during our experience… Her name? Sarah. States she’s the “boss” after finally coming to our table at about 45 mins in (with literal no eye contact still) and that she’s training, and all she says regarding our service is “you guys are all good, right?!” while giving us two thumbs up. Okay so the food… I honestly assumed would be really really good. I was disappointed unfortunately. But with mine only, because in our group of 5, everyone else’s was amazing. I ordered the most simplest of breakfasts, the traditional breakfast (2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage patties, slice of toast, and potatoes). Okay, let’s continue with i HATE being a Karen so so so much, but sheesh… the eggs so strongly smelled of sea food (salmon) and tasted as such. That being said, they were delicious and i love sea food lol, but if I didn’t? That would pose an issue. The sausage was decent and cooked perfectly. The potatoes were nothing special, but the toast!!!! THE TOAST (focaccia) was incredible. And I just learned, is made in house. Overall, unfortunately, I’d say maybe 3 stars averaging all aspects. I am absolutely positive mine was (hopefully!!) not a regular experience.
