Reviews
We recently visited Steeleys Grill And Tackle in Dearing for dinner, with high hopes based on the positive reviews we’d read. While the restaurant itself is very appealing—it has wonderful curb appeal and a charming interior that suggests a great small-town, “Mom and Pop” experience—our expectations for the food were, unfortunately, not met.
We ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings with fries and mac ‘n’ cheese, and the advertised Salisbury Steak with rice, gravy, and green beans.
Our main critique centers on the quality and preparation of the ingredients. We observed that many items, including the wings, french fries, and what appeared to be the pre-formed Salisbury steak patties, seemed to be sourced directly from a commercial freezer. The green beans were uniformly cut, suggesting a frozen, commercially prepared product, and the Salisbury Steak itself was quite chewy and, in our opinion, seemed more like a drowned hamburger patty with a jarred gravy than a proper Salisbury steak.
On the positive side, my partner found the mac ‘n’ cheese to be tasty, even if the flavor suggested it was commercially manufactured.
Overall, we felt the meal was not a good value for the price of approximately $15 per plate. The service was also minimal; after our food was delivered, no one checked on us to offer drink refills or see if we needed anything else.
While we truly wanted to find a great little local establishment to support, the heavy reliance on commercially prepared, frozen ingredients left us disappointed. The wonderful atmosphere deserves a much higher standard of food quality.
The food here continues to impress! On this visit, I absolutely loved the fried banana peppers—crispy, flavorful, and a must-try starter. This time I went with the grilled chicken sandwich, which came out hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Juicy, well-seasoned, and paired with great onion rings, it was another winning choice.
The atmosphere remains warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who make the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and everything tastes freshly made.
✨ Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is worth the stop for a satisfying meal and a friendly welcome.
For lunch I ordered the Steely’s hamburger, and my wife ordered a BLT. I’ve got to tell you, this is maybe the best hamburger I’ve had in years. In fact I can’t remember a better tasting hamburger. I had them add cheese and bacon bits to the order and substitute catsup for BBQ sauce. THE BEST EVER. I held on to that hamburger until I was finished. Ever single morsel that dripped down to the plate was retrieved later with my fork. I was in heaven. My wife enjoy her BLT, but she wasn’t having the sesmic experience that I was.
Our server served up everthing with a warm smile and a ‘Can I get you anything else?”
Even if you are not hungry, drop in for a glass of tea, sit a spell and enjoy the ambience of this place. Massive timber post (maybe 14×14) support the roof. The planks on the wall are rough cut and some of them are well over 24″ in width. You simply don’t see construction like this very much.
All in all a wonderful stop. I didn’t want the day to end, but we had to carry on. My prayer is that we pass through this area again someday so that I can stop and relive this moment.
to order and cooked perfectly. There was a beautiful view of a large pond with two beautiful pastures, bordered by wooded area’s, which were very colorful with fall foliage and a large flock of geese swimming on the surface of the pond and grazing the pasture. The interior has a comfortable rustic decor. The service was friendly and the menu prices were very reasonable .
