This place is a hidden gem. I had never heard of it until a friend mentioned it to me and told me it was a cool spot with great pizza. My buddy wasn’t wrong. My Caesar salad was a very generous portion size and super fresh. I went with a Detroit style pizza that was amazing. I saw other tables with the hand-tossed pizza that also look incredible. They also have an impressive draft list and list of beers in cans. There is a wine and cocktail menu that looked very nice but I’m a beer guy and didn’t try any. I was able to try two beers I had never had before. This is no small task as I have drank a lot of beer in my time. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu items. This place is a must try if you like cool spots with good pizza and beer.

So glad we found Steel Penny! Looking for a good place to eat and coffee and they checked both! Service is fantastic. Tried the Detroit style pizza this was so delicious. Nice crunchy crust but soft in the middle.

First off, it’s important to note that Steel Penny does not allow customization of menu items. They’re very rigid about substitutions or adjustments, which feels a bit off-putting and inflexible, especially for those who like to tweak their orders.

That said, the Firenze sandwich was phenomenal. It comes with Burrata Cheese, Basil Pesto (nut-free), Arugula, Tomato, Balsamic Glaze, Sicilian EVOO, Salt, and Black Pepper, and you can choose between a chicken cutlet or Prosciutto di Parma. I went with the chicken cutlet, and it was an excellent choice. The rustic Italian bread roll was the perfect base, crusty yet soft enough to hold everything together. Every bite was flavorful, fresh, and well-balanced.

I also tried the Rose Gold Detroit-Style Pizza, which was very good. The crust was thick but still light, and the vodka sauce was delicious. I added pepperoni, which definitely elevated the flavor. The only real downside was the size as it’s only six small slices, and for $20, that feels overpriced.

Lastly, I ordered the Pumpkin Spice Latte. I asked for it extra hot, but it came out barely warm. The flavor was fine, but I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been served steaming hot as requested.

Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. I’d definitely go back for the chicken cutlet sandwiches as they’re worth the trip. I’d hesitate to get another pizza at that price point, and I’d skip the latte next time.

My book club tried out this local place for this month’s meeting, it was not crowded when we arrived around 10am and we didn’t feel rushed, eating and chatting until noon. Tried out the egg, bacon, cheese on a foccacia, I was a little hesitant at first, but it was delicious! The hot chocolate was really good as well, don’t skip the whipped cream on top. The only critique I had was I wish the music had been a little quieter so we could hear each other better, but I do think someone turned it down about an hour after we arrived as more people arrived. I liked the atmosphere, and the layout made us feel like we had a private room instead of being in the bigger room of tables. I think we found a new meeting spot!

(I did email them ahead of time to make sure it was ok for our book club to meet here, and they had suggested we move our meeting up to 10am instead of 11am as it would get busy closer to lunch time. It did get a little crowd, but it wasn’t super crowded and we would’ve easily been able to get a table. I’m not sure if being Dec is part of that, or if that’s how it normally is on a Sunday morning.)

[Update] I came back to try out the coffee and toasts because everyone has been saying they’re so great… and they weren’t lying! Deliciousss!!! And customizable* which is key!
What a Cute Place! We devoured the salad before I could even take a picture! But the pizza was sooooo good, it’s light and fluffy and so full of flavor! Seriously going back for more

This is such a hidden local gem. The Detroit style pizza is so good and so filling. Decent beer selection and well made drinks. Smaller menu but well executed. Great to stop for a coffee and pastry or a laid back date night. Service has been consistently great too. I have enjoyed every visit here.

The Shredder Detroit pizza was one of the best and most interesting pizzas I’ve ever had. Brussel sprouts are surprisingly good on pizza and it hit literally every flavor possible at once but really balanced. Also the blueberry cobbler latte was so good!

Only downside to this place is the parking lot is kinda hard to get in/out.

This is a neat eclectic place to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich. I had the honey bee latte and it was amazing. I would definitely make the trip just to enjoy that coffee again. Breakfast sandwich was also delicious. Our server, Becky, was attentive and friendly. I would definitely return and highly recommend.

We went for the first time today and we will definitely be back! Our server, Ally, was phenomenal! She genuinely made our experience perfect–so friendly and knowledgeable and when she walked away after offering suggestions, my friend said “She’s awesome, and seems so proud to work here– I bet the food is going to be great!” She was right!
We had the Shredder Detroit style pizza and a giant chicken pesto sandwich- the dough was like a pillow and the bread for the sandwich was delicious! The chicken cutlets were fresh and crispy–and the ratio of toppings were perfect. The pizza had a crunchy cheese edge and really interesting toppings- we can’t wait to try the others.
Also took an iced latte and hot bourbon chai to go- both great!
Parking is a little wonky but we were too stuffed (as we left with our to-go boxes) and happy for that to matter.
